Lappe Nordic to host 2015 Haywood Ski Nationals
After an extensive review of three applications, the Cross Country Canada events committee is pleased to announce that Lake Superior Nordic Ski Association will play host to the 2015 Haywood Ski Nationals at the Lappe Nordic Ski Centre.
"The Selection Committee was especially impressed with the solid leadership group outlined in the bid package," said Dave Dyer, events director, Cross Country Canada. "We witnessed tremendous commitment by volunteers and staff this past season as members of the ski community shoveled and trucked snow in from a wide area around Thunder Bay to ensure the World Jr./World U23 Trials could be held. There was virtually no snow at the Thunder Bay airport when we arrived, yet the Lake Superior Nordic Association staged three great days of racing at Lappe Nordic."
Freshly homologated to FIS standards, the trails at Lappe will provide a variety of options for both senior and junior skiers at the 88th running of the National Championship event.

Land of the Rising Snow... By: Mark Arendz, Para-Nordic National Ski Team Athlete
In the dawn of a new season, what better way to start the year off then to go to the Land of the Rising Sun.
The Japanese Para-Nordic team invited me to their early season on-snow camp in Asahidake. Every spring, Japan's National, University and High School ski teams gather in Asahidake on Japan's north island for late season skiing. Usually the weather is incredible, double digit highs and sunny. The skiing here lasts for quite a time because of the sheer amount of snow that falls. Asahidake competes globally for some of the biggest annual snowfalls. This snowfall kept increasing as I was there. Every day it was overcast and snowing. The smallest overnight snowfall was about 10cm, with a few days that were close to 30cm of fresh snow. Still, it was amazing skiing, soft but really nice trails and good snow. I was there in Japan with my teammate Brian, working with the Japanese team. As well as getting in some training with the Japanese team.

Quote of the Month
I am in Bend, Oregon for our first official training camp of the year.I am a pretty sure that Bend is my favorite camp we do. The variety of great training we are able to bang out is unparalleled and the skiing up at Mt. Bachelor for late May in my experience has always been stellar. The terrain is perfect, there is a lot of kilometers groomed - so variety and congestion isn't an issue and everyone is so excited to be back into the groove of training and preparing for the upcoming racing season meaning the stoke is high on all the faces you see out there - rain or shine.
