Canada's Mark Arendz Wins Overall IPC World Cup Biathlon Title with Bronze in Sochi
Mark Arendz put the finishing touches to a memorable season by locking up the overall IPC World Cup biathlon title after winning the bronze medal in the men's 15 kilometre biathlon race in Sochi, Russia on Thursday.
"It was a great race for me. It was so slow that I really had to focus on my technique and shooting. I felt I was more comfortable on the range today then yesterday <where he placed fifth)," said Arendz. "The one miss took me out of second, but I'm very pleased with how the day went. It has been a great opportunity to ski at the Laura venue in anticipation for next year's Paralympic Games." Full article

The Team behind The Team
By:Tom Holland, CCC High Performance Director, with collaboration from Toni Scheier
Much like the "roadies" on the rock star's tour, the wax technicians for the National Ski Team play a vitally important role in the performance on the trails of each competitor.
Canada is considered to have one of the best wax teams in the business. CCC started the program in the lead up to the Calgary Olympics by hiring Sun Valley's John Plummer, with Dave Wood and then Alain Masson also very successfully leading the service team through into the 90's. While it doesn't have the giant waxing trucks, scores of service personnel, or meteorologists as do some of the bigger teams, it presently does have another of the best wax technicians in the business leading the team, Yves Bilodeau.

If You Are Raising a Child Athlete,
Think Long-Term Credit: Istvan Balyi & Jim Grove
If we do the right things at the right time in the right way, more of our children will have the skills, attitudes and understandings to be able to choose a path in sport that fits them. If they have lofty goals in sport, they can pursue a training path in high performance (e.g. to become an Olympic or a professional athlete). If they simply want to enjoy playing local amateur sport, or participate in a lifelong recreational activity of their choice, they can choose that path.
Both are valid choices, and they are choices that should be made by the child or youth athlete, not the parent.
How does LTAD address their choice? LTAD has 7 stages that correspond to basic phases of human physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development from early childhood to late adulthood.

"I had two fourths at the World Champs in 2011 so this medal, and it being gold, is pretty special. To put an entire race together at the World Championships is a dream come true for me."
