Acclaim and congratulations continue to pour in as TV viewers in Europe and North American were treated to an exciting 10 days of FIS World Cup racing in early December.

The Canadian World Cup Tour kicked off its North American schedule with the first urban sprint race in North American as a 800 meter loop on the steps of the Quebec National Assembly provided the stage for   Team Sprint and Sprint action. Unique video and photo highlights can be found at the following site:

After a continental travel west, the Canmore Nordic Centre provided the setting for mass start, sprint and skiathlon competitions. Visit the Cross Country Canada photo gallery for shots of your favourite skiers.

Many thanks to the hundreds of volunteers and organizers who made the Canadian stop on the FIS Cros Country World Cup tour a tremendous success.

All five World Cup competitions can still be watched on cbc.ca

Mark Arendz Hits the Podium in IPC World Cup Race

Canada's Mark Arendz took the country on his shoulders and delivered at the IPC World Cup in Vuokatti, Finland on Saturday. The 22-year-old skied to his 15th career IPC World Cup medal after winning the bronze in the men's standing 7.5-kilomtre short distance biathlon race.

Arendz, who has finished second overall on the IPC World Cup biathlon standings in each of the last two years, missed one shot in two rounds of shooting to clock a third-place time of 20:59.1.

"It was a solid start to the biathlon season for me today, but there is definitely room for improvement," said Arendz.

Members of the competition Jury met via conference call on December 21st to review current plans for the Jr/U23 Trials and received positive feedback as racing conditions at Lappe Nordic have been reported as good after the Fresh Air Time Trials on Wednesday, December 19. Although snow conditions in Thunder Bay are unseasonably low, precipitation that fell as rain over the weekend at the airport was snow out at Lappe.

"We have work parties planned for the weekend to reinforce the snow cover on our race trails and are confident that conditions will be good for the Trials," commented Werner Schwar, the Event Chair for the Trials. The Lappe stadium web cam can be viewed at  http://lappenordic.ca/webcam.html Updates will be provided later next week.

Beckie Scott Making Sure to Lend Helping Hand Source: Calgary Herald

More than six years have passed, and Beckie Scott still can't comprehend the fuss over the whole ski-pole incident.
Yes, she won Olympic silver in the team sprint with Sara Renner thanks in no small part to the generosity of Norwegian ski coach. Bjornar Haakensmoen.
And yes, she will be forever grateful for Haakensmoen handing Renner a replacement for her broken ski pole in the final at the Turin Games - an act of kindness that ultimately cost his country a medal as Norway slipped to fourth place.

"Hosting elite FIS World Cup racing on home snow is a critical component to our high-performance plan. Quebec and Canmore have some of the most passionate cross-country ski fans in the country so competing at home, and extending our reach east with hosting a World Cup race was very important to the continued progression of our national program. Given the thousands of people that lined the courses over the last two weeks, we believe our athletes brought the communities together in celebration of high-performance sport, while also inspired hundreds of young kids to get involved in sport. We applaud all of Quebec City and Canmore for your efforts in staging these incredible events, the media for your generous coverage of our sport, and thank everyone for cheering our athletes on."
