Nearly impossible to kill, thrives on neglect are just a few ways to describe Sansevieria cylindrica. Commonly called Cylindrical Snake Plant, African Spear Plant; or Spear Sansevieria, this amazing succulent is native to South Africa.
If you like 'modern-looking' houseplants, Cylindrical Snake Plant (CSP) could be it! Its greenish-gray rounded leaves (think pointy cones) with stripes or markings grow from a rosette at the base. Mature plants will eventually produce white fragrant flowers.
Easy to grow, just give CSP plant what it wants - neglect! Bright light is preferred, but will tolerate a wide range of light conditions. The true key to a long, happy life is proper watering. Water thoroughly (the soil, not the leaves), and then allow the soil to dry between waterings. If and when you need to repot, use a cactus potting soil.
Did you know? Sansevierias are not heavy feeders; fertilize sparingly during the growing season.

Even with good care, poinsettias can lose their appeal (or leaves!) after the holidays are over. It's time to swap that tired poinsettia for some year 'round houseplant enjoyment. 'Lights, Camera, Bloom!' is the theme of the 2015 Philadelphia Flower Show! Martin Viette Nurseries is chartering three coach buses to attend this world renowned flower show on Wednesday, March 4, 2015. The coaches will leave Martin Viette in East Norwich at 9am and return at approximately 9pm. Advanced registration and payment is an absolute must and on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost of the trip (coach, entrance ticket to the flower show, gratuity & light refreshments on the way home) is $89.00 per person. The Interfaith Nutrition Network, 'The INN', is the largest human service agency of its kind on Long Island, providing daily assistance to the many needy people living in our communities. Their shelters and soup kitchens are always in need of donations. We ask for your help throughout the winter by donating non-perishable food items. A collection bin is located outside the main doors at Martin Viette's. Your donations will be brought to the INN for distribution. We thank you for any assistance that you can provide.
