Keep houseplants happy - rotate regularly to keep them uniform and not 'reaching' for sunlight.
Remove spent flowers from Amaryllis, but allow the leaves to mature.
Stay off frozen turf as much as possible! If you cut across the lawn, your footprints will tell the tale come spring.
Check stored bulbs - dahlias, elephant ears, and cannas - for any signs of rot. If found, discard.

Dracaena godseffiana 'Florida Beauty' (synonym: Dracaena surculosa 'Florida Beauty'), is commonly known as the Gold Dust Plant or Gold Dust Dracaena. Native to west tropical Africa, 'Florida Beauty' is hardy in Zones 9-11 - think Miami. We grow it as a houseplant on Long Island (but can enjoy a summer vacation June through August).
It's all about the beautiful leaves! 'Florida Beauty' leaves are heavily splashed with yellow or creamy markings so little green actually appears. (However, insufficient light will erase these markings and revert the plant to more green.) The leaves can be dust magnets; use a moist cloth to remove as needed.
Keep 'Florida Beauty' happy; grow in bright to medium light. A word about watering: keep the soil barely moist (never soggy or bone dry). Extra humidity is a plus; use a pebble tray to help remedy dry air locations. Useful in terrariums, dish gardens, table top. Under ideal growing conditions; 'FB' will grow to about 2' tall.
Did you know? 'Florida Beauty' is sensitive to fluoride often found in drinking water; symptoms appear as tip burn on the ends of the leaves. A word to the wise: the ASPCA warns that this plant is poisonous to dogs and cats.

Even with good care, poinsettias can lose their appeal (or leaves!) after the holidays are over. It's time to swap that tired poinsettia for some year 'round houseplant enjoyment. Martin Viette Nurseries is chartering three coach buses to attend this world renowned flower show on Wednesday, March 4, 2015. The Interfaith Nutrition Network, 'The INN', is the largest human service agency of its kind on Long Island, providing daily assistance to the many needy people living in our communities. Their shelters and soup kitchens are always in need of donations. We ask for your help throughout the winter by donating non-perishable food items.
