Can you imagine Christmas without poinsettias? For many, their annual appearance marks the beginning of the Holiday Season. And it's no surprise; poinsettias are hands down the most popular holiday plants. Reds, pinks, whites, marbled, speckled - there are so many to choose from thanks to the tremendous amount of interest in poinsettia plant breeding. Our greenhouse is a wonderland of beautiful poinsettias in all the popular sizes and holiday colors.
Poinsettias grow best when daytime temperatures are between 70-75 degrees F. Night temperatures shouldn't dip below 65 degrees F. To avoid leaf drop; never expose them to drafts or excessive drying heat! A few words about watering: Allow poinsettias to dry ever so slightly between waterings. (But never bone dry!) After a few minutes, discard any excess water that collects in the saucer.
It's time to debunk that old wife's tale about poinsettias being deadly poisonous. Generally speaking, they are considered a non-toxic houseplant, but this is not to suggest that you eat them. It's a Christmas Tree Festival of fresh cut trees at Martin Viette! Noble, Fraser and Balsam firs are the most popular cut Christmas tree choices. We have many heights to choose from - tabletop to tall ceiling (12-13'), and everything in between. The ever popular 'Charlie Brown' trees have arrived, too! These precious trees are popular with 'kids' of all ages.
When you buy your cut tree at Martin Viette, we'll make a fresh cut, bale it, and secure it to your car at no extra charge. Bring your tree stand with you; we will gladly fit the stand on the tree after we make a fresh cut.

It's the most wonderful time of the year! The intoxicating aromas of fresh cut trees scent the air in our homes. Keep your holidays full of fragrance by selecting fresh trees. Here are a few tips to keep your tree fresh and safe:
The tree should be baled & a fresh cut made before you leave our nursery.
Make sure your tree stand is sturdy enough to support the tree and capable of holding adequate water. If not, buy a bigger stand.
As soon as you get home, place the tree in a bucket of warm water & keep it in a sheltered location until you are ready to bring the tree inside. Keep the bucket filled with water.
When it's time to bring the tree inside, make a fresh cut (if possible) and place the tree in the stand.
Keep water in the tree stand reservoir AT ALL TIMES! Add Prolong® to the water. This material will help your tree absorb more water and keep it fresher longer. Check water level in stand daily; replenish as needed.

Ho, Ho, Ho! Join us every Saturday and Sunday, 1pm - 5pm, now through December 21st for a one-on-one visit with the jolly guy himself! Santa promises to be good to all that have been nice (and maybe a few that have been naughty). So, let him know what you're wishing for this Christmas. Bring the children, bring the camera!
If you can't see Santa in person, you can always write to him and drop it in his special mailbox in the Wreaths and Greens Room at Martin Viette. We'll make sure it gets to the North Pole before Christmas!
