Give roses a need shot-in-the-arm; fertilize with Rose-tone according to package directions.

If you must use a pesticide, it's imperative to do so in the early morning or evening when the temperatures have cooled down (a bit). It's best to avoid any applications when air temperatures are 85 degrees or warmer.

Digital cameras and cell phones can capture the good, the bad, & the ugly in the garden. Take pictures each week for future reference.

Arborvitae 'Green Giant', formally known as Thuja x 'Green Giant', is a go-to plant for wind breaks, screening, and privacy. Single specimens can also be used as focal points in landscape settings.

Evergreen and hardy in Zones 5-8 (we are considered Zone 7), 'Green Giant' is a vigorous, pyramidal-shaped grower that is prized for its dense rich green color. GG prefers moist, fertile well-drained soil; however it will tolerate a range of soil conditions. Best grown in full sun to part shade; expect heights of 60+', and widths of 20' after a number of years.

Did you know? Arborvitae 'Green Giant' is reported to be deer resistant. If used for formal hedging, young plants can be pruned and trained.

The Interfaith Nutrition Network, 'The INN', is the largest human service agency of its kind on Long Island, providing daily assistance to the many needy people living in our communities.
