Continue to plant, plant, plant all warm season annuals and vegetables in pots, planters and the garden.
Let the summer fun begin as we cheerfully say hello to Memorial Day weekend! What does Memorial Day mean to you? Gardeners use this as the start date to plant their gardens - veggies, herbs, flowers and more. It's also the time when patio furniture comes out of winter hibernation for relaxing days ahead. However you decide to 'kick-off' this long awaited weekend, we'll be here. Open Fridays and Saturdays - 8am to 8pm; Sundays through Thursdays from 8am to 6pm. We are open Memorial Day; look for the red, white & blue balloons at our entrance on Northern Blvd.
All teak in all styles - dining, deep seating and more - is on sale this Saturday, Sunday & Monday. Take advantage of this special sale just before summer begins! Teak furniture is classic and timeless; sure to be enjoyed for many years to come.
Astilbes, popular early summer blooming light shade perennials, are easy to grow and even easier to enjoy in the garden! Pretty plume-like flowers in shades of pink, salmon, red or white stand above lovely green leaves. Grow astilbe in well-drained soil that is enriched with compost or composted manure (especially if growing in sunny locations). One rule - never let the planting area go dry; astilbes like adequate soil moisture. Mulch around the plants to conserve needed soil moisture and eliminate weeds that compete for that moisture. (Don't mound or 'volcano' mulch directly on the plant; leave a few inches of clearance.) For best results, plant astilbes in groups spaced 12-18 inches apart.

Delphinium, the perennial aristocrat of fine English gardens, has been adored for centuries for its stately and showy flower spikes in white and shades of blue. Look through any English gardening book and you will see magnificent perennial borders, with delphiniums stealing the show.

How to grow: full sun and moist, yet well-drained soil that has been enriched with compost or composted manure. Good gardeners will deadhead to encourage additional flowers. Delphiniums are heavy feeders; read and follow fertilizer label directions.

How to use: Delphiniums can be used in beds, borders or container plantings. Perfect as cut flowers, mix delphinium with other seasonal bloomers to create a delightful, informal arrangement for the indoor or outdoor dinner table.
To-MAY-to, To-MAH-to! No matter how you say it; it's time to plant this popular fruit (yes, botanically speaking, tomatoes are fruits) in the garden. And there are so many types of tomatoes to choose from - plum varieties for sauce or paste; larger varieties for slicing; grape varieties for fresh eating (think candy) and more.

What's old is new again! To the pleasure of many, heirloom tomatoes are making a big comeback with their catchy names like Mortgage Lifter, Cherokee Purple, Mr. Stripey, Green Zebra, Brandywine, and Amish Paste. And if you like to garden organically; pots of USDA certified organic tomatoes are available.

Sun, sun, sun! To successfully grow tomatoes, give them at least 6-8 hours of sunshine each day. Water deeply and as needed. Garden tomatoes will benefit from the addition of compost or composted manure added to the soil prior to planting. Use potting or container mix for tomatoes grown in planters, whiskey barrels or containers. Fertilize with Blossom Booster every two weeks - read and follow label directions. It's best to cage or stake taller varieties at the time of planting.

Not enough space in your veggie garden? Patio tomatoes are perfect for pots - smaller plants that don't require a lot of space to produce handfuls of delicious tomatoes!

Just in time for summer's kick-off weekend, fabulous lanterns, candles and torches have arrived. Lanterns - in many styles and sizes - lend style and ambiance to any outdoor living space! Add a shepherd's hook to add height and light to your patio, deck or walkways. Brand new at Martin Viette - collections of insect-repelling candles are available for your upcoming outdoor parties and barbeques. And the summer requisite garden torches can all be found in the Barn at Martin Viette!
