They're back; dandelions are appearing - everywhere! Get them before they go to seed (white puffballs). Good advice: do not attempt to hand pull as dandelions have a long taproot. You'll leave part of the weed behind, and it will reappear. Use a recommended weed killer for best control. Need help? We can advise you on what to use and how to use it.
Inventory tomato cages and stakes now; you'll be ahead of the game when it's time to plant.
Remember to hoop peonies before they become floppy.

Snapdragons, formally known as Antirrhinum majus, are beautiful flowering annuals for the garden. Native to the Mediterranean, this old-fashioned bloomer is ideal for sunny planters, window boxes, or garden beds and borders.
'Snaps', as they are sometimes called, have colorful flowers (pinks, reds, whites, yellows and more) that open at the bottom of the spike, and then progress upwards. And if you like cut flowers for the home, snapdragons are ideal for indoor enjoyment. Hint: plant extra!
Give your snapdragons a little pinch! Little kids (and big kids, too) enjoy pinching the sides of snapdragon flowers to make the dragon's mouth open and close. Common names can be so much fun!
Got shade? Here's a great plant for shady areas of the garden. European Ostrich fern, formally known as Matteuccia struthiopteris, produces beautiful fiddleheads in the spring that unfold to graceful ostrich-like plumes.
EOF is a hardy, clump-forming fern that will grow 3-5' tall, and up to 2' wide. Grow in rich soil that's been amended with compost or composted manure prior to planting. Soil should be moist, yet well-drained. This slow grower can be used in damp areas - around ponds, streams, or in woodland areas. Do not plant in full sun locations!
Easy maintenance: old fronds can be cut back in late fall/early winter or in spring before new growth appears. Fertilize in spring with Plant-tone. Keep soil moist throughout the growing season.
Looking for a beautiful vine that grows and flowers in the shade? Climbing hydrangea can be the answer to many landscape prayers. Formally known as Hydrangea anomala var. petiolaris, this ornamental vine climbs and clings with root-like holdfasts. Word to the wise: good gardeners will give this vine the strong support it needs - a trellis, arbor, fence, or pergola. Some will plant around the base of a shade tree, allowing the tree trunk to act as support.
