What does St. Patrick's Day mean to many gardeners? It's the day to plant peas in the garden! For best harvest, sow seeds in well-drained soil and spots that enjoy at least 6 hours of sun per day. Provide a trellis or fence to support their vines. Expect pretty flowers, followed by delicious, healthy pods. Many varieties, including organics, can be found at Martin Viette. It's time to get growin'!

As soon as the soil is workable (dry, not wet), plant asparagus roots in the garden. Like peas, asparagus need full sun and well-drained soils for best results. Choose their planting location wisely; asparagus are perennial in the garden and will flourish for many years in the same bed. Roots have just arrived at Martin Viette.

Reminder - it's time to prune fruit trees and grapes. Sharp, clean pruning shears are a must!

If you haven't already, resume fertilizing houseplants.
