It's easy to coax some early spring color in the home. Cut a few branches of forsythia, place branches in water-filled vase, and presto - yellow flowers should begin to appear within a week or two.

Start a gardening journal for notes, thoughts, images, seed packets, and labels for the 2013 gardening year. It's impossible to remember from year to year what performed well and what didn't.

It's not too early (in fact, it's time!) to plan your vegetable garden for 2013. All the popular vegetable varieties - including heirlooms, organics and more -have arrived at Martin Viette! Seed starting supplies are here, too.

The British have a word for something that's inventive, dazzling, and extraordinary. The word is "Brilliant!" In 2013, the Philadelphia Flower Show will glow with the majestic beauty and creative genius of Great Britain, and pay tribute to centuries of inspiring, influential culture - culminating in the urbane design of 21st-century London.

A few seats remain on our final chartered bus for our trip on Thursday, March 7, 2013. You'll see incredible landscapes, thousands of plants, and floral design entries in hundreds of categories. Lectures, demonstrations and so much more make this one incredible day for all gardening enthusiasts! The coach will leave Martin Viette in East Norwich at 9am and return at approximately 9pm. Advanced registration and payment is an absolute must and on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost of the trip (luxury coach, bus driver gratuity, refreshments on the trip home, and entrance ticket to the flower show) is $85.00. February is National Bird Feeding Month! During the lean days of winter, when natural food is generally unavailable, birds rely on us to supply needed food. Here's why. Birds lose up to 30% of their energy by fluffing their feathers 'to stay warm' during cold days and nights. (It's like wrapping a blanket around you when it's cold!) Sometimes you'll notice birds shivering. They do this to readjust their body temperature from cold to warm, and this, too, takes energy. We can help birds during the winter months by feeding them. And once you start, don't stop until natural food - like insects and seeds - become available later in spring. So, take a look at your birdfeeder. Got birdseed? We do!
