A Life Touched

Tricia* came to live at Restoration Gateway at age 6.  Like too many Ugandan children, she had lost both of her parents to the dreaded disease, HIV/AIDS.  Tricia was barely 4 years old by the time both of her parents died, and her older brother became the caretaker for Tricia and her other siblings.  After living in a child-led family for over 2 years, Tricia was identified as a true orphan by a pastor friend of RG.  After investigation, RG's social worker brought Tricia to RG where she was welcomed into her new family.

Tricia has been such a blessing to Restoration Gateway.  She's kind and is seen giving a helping hand to younger children.  Tricia is a good student at school and enjoys reading.

Please pray that Tricia will continue to know the love of Jesus and grow in His likeness.

RG Chicken Farm Utilizing

New Hybrid Chicken

We are excited to share that the RG chicken farm project that was initiated earlier this year by Mitch Orweiler and Emmanuel, one of our Ugandan staff members, has come to fruition. Mitch and Emmanuel worked countless hours to obtain the chickens and get the chicken house built, which will eventually house 600 chickens. We received 75 chickens at the end of May, and last week we received another 80, bringing our total to just over 150 chickens. The chickens we are using, known as Kuroilers, are hybrid chickens which are well suited to resource-poor village environments.

Kuroilers are more disease-resistant and have a much higher percentage of egg production and a larger amount of meat per bird, compared to local chickens. Eggs are a luxury food in northern Uganda, and the RG children are excited to now have this as a regular part of their diet. To learn more about the RG chickens, see http://www.kuroiler.com/en/.

With the Orweilers going to Thailand, Emmanuel, who is the head of the RG Agriculture and Animal Husbandry program, is now leading the project.  Again, we express a huge thank-you to Mitch for all his work on the project.

McCalls to the US

Tim and Janice McCall will be returning to the US from November 17, 2013 - Sept 2013-McCall January 12, 2014. If you are interested  in learning more about what God is doing in Northern Uganda they would love an opportunity to share their story with you. To schedule a time to meet with the McCalls please contact Brint Patrick in our Waco office at (254) 752-0583.

Ophans Needing Sponsorship

At Restoration Gateway we have several children just like Tricia in need of sponsorship. Each child was created in God's image and has a wonderful story of restoration in their new home. They all have varied histories Childbut they have one thing in common ----- they need your support and encouragement in their future.

The sponsorship program at Restoration Gateway is different from other sponsorship programs which simply supplement a child's educational or nutritional needs. Sponsorship at RG includes:

  • A new home to live in, with a bed and belongings of their own
  • All meals
  • Clothing
  • Stipend for their house mom
  • Salaries for their teachers
  • School books and supplies
  • Indoor and outdoor recreation areas, playgrounds and soccer fields
  • Medical care provided by RG
Contact  Restoration Gateway  for more information on how you can make a difference in the life of a child.

Orewilers Heading to Thailand

The Orewilers, one of our long term missionary families at RG, have completed their commitment at Restoration Gateway, and this week they have said goodbye to Uganda for now and are following the Lord's call on their lives to serve in Thailand.

Thailand is still less than 5% Christian, with many estimating that it is actually less than 1%. Although Thailand is known as the land of smiles, there are many problems facing this budding nation that so desperately needs to hear the good news.

Reflections from the Orewilers before they departed:  "As we grow closer to saying goodbye to Uganda and to Restoration Gateway, the more we realize what a great opportunity and privilege it has been to serve here. There are so many unknowns about moving to Thailand, and we would be lying to say we didn't have any apprehensions. But more than that, Uganda has been our home for the past 3 years. We've enjoyed our time here and wouldn't trade this experience for  anything. Elias, Loren, Aiden and Ezra love it at RG, and it is honestly an amazing place to raise children. All of us have developed so many friendships which makes it even more difficult to leave. We will certainly miss the friends we have grown to love and especially the family we will leave behind.

Looking back, we pray that the impact we have had on Restoration Gateway has been positive, and that the seeds we have planted here will bear much fruit. The RG children are growing so much, not only physically but spiritually as well. RG has grown so much since we first arrived almost three years ago. We have witnessed God's hand blessing the work here, and we are constantly amazed at everything He has been able to accomplish through RG in such a short time. We are confident that God will complete His vision and purposes here in Northern Uganda and are grateful that He allowed us this season to take a small part. Restoration Gateway will truly be a doorway through which God will impart restoration of sons and daughters back to the Father not only in Northern Uganda, but throughout Africa and around the world."

The Orewilers will be dearly missed, but we are excited about what the Lord is going to do through them and their family in this next season. Please pray for the Orewiler family as they transition to this new place of service. Pray for financial provision, for the seeds they have planted at RG to produce a great harvest, spiritual and physical protection on their family, and the Lord's continued leading.

Walter Cooper Sandusky Dental Center

Opens to the Community

On October 14, the Walter Cooper Sandusky (WCS) Dental Center officially opened and began providing dental services for the RG children, staff, workers and the surrounding community. We are excited to welcome Dr. Umaru Kizito as the new director of the WCS Dental Center. He recently completed the Bachelors Dental Surgery program at Makerere University in Kampala. Dr. Kizito has already hit the ground running and is becoming a great asset to the RG team. Earlier this year, we had plans of having a dental conference in October to bring some visiting dentists from Uganda and the U.S. and introduce them to the facility and provide some training seminars.  This conference had been delayed until next year. Little did we know that God already had plans to provide RG with a new director for the WCS Dental Center in October!

The need for dental care is overwhelming in Uganda, and especially more so in the north, where there are very few dental facilities. Uganda has only 250 dentists nationwide. Worsening this shortage, most of these professionals live in and around Kampala; yet 87% of the population lives in rural areas. This means rural Uganda has a dentist-patient ratio of 1:421,000 which is the equivalent of only one dentist serving all of the population within the city of Atlanta, Georgia! For more information, please visit the RG Dental page.

We have already received a testimony from one of the patients that had a tooth extracted by Dr. Kizito earlier this week: "I had my tooth pulled, and it didn't even hurt!" News like that will spread and cause ripples in the community advertising the services. There is already news from people in Lira and Gulu who are desiring to come and receive dental care here at RG. Please pray for our staff as we receive these patients and visitors, that all those who come and receive care here at RG would meet, come to know, and receive love and healing from the great physician, Jesus Christ. To God be the Glory!
