New Library Catalogue coming soon
As part of a wider Library IT system upgrade, we will be introducing a new online library catalogue.

You will be able to download a new free Spydus Mobile app (Apple or Android) as part of the upgrade. This will replace the Sorcer Mobile app.

The
upgraded catalogue will offer:
  • An improved, easy to use layout for a better customer experience
  • A web page that adapts to the size of your device
  • Better search results with advanced web search technology

See the library website for updates on the new library catalogue.

Support from Amazon welcomed to further improve library services
Amazon has donated devices and books to help boost community libraries and give people across the county more access to library services as part of its wider "Amazon in the Community" investment programme.

Amazon has already donated 50 Fire tablets to the Library at Home Service. The tablet donation gives people access to digital skills tutorials and books that would otherwise be out of reach.

Central Library strikes gold for customer experience
Central Library has been awarded a Cambridge BID Gold Accreditation for Overall Customer Experience. The accreditation is based on the Cambridge BID mystery shopper programme.

Storecheckers, who carried out the mystery shop, said that Central Library staff "had friendly attitudes" and "all the time in the world for their customers."

Congratulations to Central Library.
Shelf Help
Cambridgeshire Libraries and Vivacity Peterborough launched a new scheme locally to support young people's mental health at a special event at Huntingdon Library on 28 September.

Reading Well - Shelf Help - is a national scheme, part of the hugely successful Reading Well Books on Prescription scheme, which will provide 13-18 year-olds with high-quality information, support and advice on a wide-range of mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders and self-harm, and difficult life pressures, like bullying and exams.

Have you tried online payments?
The new library online payments service allows you to pay library fees and charges online. We accept all major credit and debit cards, except American Express. Please note that only payments of £1 or more can be made online.

Look out for the 'click here to pay online' button next time you login to your account.
BBC Radio Cambridgeshire Book Club
Want to be part of a book club but can't get to the meetings? We've joined up with BBC Radio Cambridgeshire to bring you an 'on-air' book club. This month's book is 'Sydney Chambers and the Shadow of Death' by James Runcie. Some of you will recognise this as our 'City Read' earlier this year, and you may even have picked up a free copy at your local library at the time. If not, there are plenty of copies to borrow in libraries across the county. Join in the on-air discussion with drive-time presenter Chris Mann and our own James Nicol from 4pm on Thursday 20 October.
Open+ launch event
St Ives Library offers self-service opening hours with Open+ on Thursday afternoons and Sundays.

To celebrate the trial of Open+ and to encourage more people to sign up to access during these hours (including demonstration of some services), a launch event will take place on Thursday 3 November, 2.30pm - 3.30pm.

We look forward to seeing you there.
Milton Road Library site re-development
A public exhibition event will be held for the Milton Road Library site re-development at Milton Road Library on Tuesday 18 October, 5pm to 7pm.

There will be revised drawings and plans on public display.

Try Before You Buy event - Get Online Week
Would you like to try an iPad or Android tablet? Download an eBook or magazine? Book a place at our free Get Online Week Try Before You Buy event at Ramsey Library, Thursday 20 October 10am-12 noon.

There are no devices on sale, just time to try out our tablet devices with support from a friendly member of staff.

Book Readings at Central Library
Join the Friends of Central Library for a drop in event on Saturday 8 October, and enjoy bite-size readings on four different subjects throughout the day. With short extracts from crime fiction, a story about Cambridge cats, tales of life in Cambridge and its remarkable history, there is something for everyone.

Readings begin at 10.30am.
Summer Reading Challenge - thank you
The Summer Reading Challenge has now ended. We would like to acknowledge the hard work and commitment from all our Young Volunteers over the course of the summer as they took time out of their days to assist with the Big Friendly Read. St Ives Library alone had 16 volunteers working alongside staff this year, talking to children about the books they had read, helping with crafts, preparing displays and giving out collectors cards. A very big thank you.
Cambridgeshire Collection
Please note that, due to essential repairs to the shelving in the local studies store, some material in the Cambridgeshire Collection will be inaccessible between 24 October and 14 November 2016. The Collection will remain open for enquiries and use of the newspaper microfilms will be unaffected during this period. Please contact us for further details or to reserve material.

European Passport Return Service introduced on 3 October 2016
The Cambridgeshire Registration Service is one of only 10 local authorities across England and Wales to offer a new European Passport Return Service initially, and one of only 2 in East Anglia. This new initiative is part of a wider Programme designed to reduce the high volume of return of document requests currently received in European Casework (UKVI). The fee is £12 per application  and an appointment in Cambridge can be booked by calling 01223 729180.
Big Energy Saving Week
Big Energy Saving Week is a campaign to help people cut their fuel bills and get all the financial support they are entitled to, running from 31 October to 4 November 2016.

Cambridge & District Citizens Advice will be holding a number of events throughout October and November.

Electoral Boundary Review Of Cambridgeshire: Final Recommendations
The Commission has now completed its review of Cambridgeshire County Council. A copy of the report is available on the LGBCE website. An interactive map of final recommendations is also available.

The Commission would like to invite residents to participate in an online opinion survey. This survey seeks feedback on the review processes in order to identify improvements that can be made.

If you require a paper copy of the opinion survey, please contact the Commission on 0330 500 1525.
