National Bookstart Week 2016
From Monday 6 to Sunday 12 June there will be thousands of free events around the country for babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers and their families, at libraries, children's centres, nurseries and bookshops to celebrate Bookstart Week 2016.

At all of Cambridgeshire Libraries' Rhymetimes and Storytimes during that week we will be giving away a mini storybook, ' A Hole in the Bottom of the Sea', as well as rhyme and activity sheets.

Keep an eye on the Bookstart website too, as they will be revealing the celebrity storyteller who will be reading a fantastic online version of A Hole in the Bottom of the Sea, as well as news about under the sea-themed activities to download and do at home including competitions, booklists and much more!
Brave New Reads
This month sees the start of Brave New Reads events. Wisbech hosts Benjamin Johncock, author of The Last Pilot, on Thursday 16 June. Central Library is the venue for a Writers Workshop with Colette Snowden on Saturday 18 June. Simon van Booy (The Illusion of Separateness) will be at Huntingdon on Wednesday 29 June and Colette Snowden is back, this time to talk about her book The Secret To Not Drowning, at Ely Library on Wednesday 27 July.

There are also pop-up book groups, quizzes and opportunities to vote for your favourite at other participating libraries.

Revised library reservation fees - 13 June 2016
A £1 reservation fee will be introduced for adult borrowers from 13 June. Reservations will remain free for children and Library at Home Service borrowers. Reservation fees for items from the joint Cambridgeshire and Suffolk Libraries (SPINE) catalogue increase to £2. Money raised from this charge helps to support the library service.
St Ives to trial new self-service access
St Ives Library will trial a new self-service system called Open+. It will enable self-service access to library resources, including borrowing or returning books, Wi-Fi, PCs etc, outside of staffed hours. The trial will allow for continued Sunday opening hours and additional hours on a Thursday afternoon.

Development will take place at the library and will be closed on 13, 14, 15, 22 and 23 June.
Volunteers' Week
It's Volunteers' Week, an annual celebration of the fantastic contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK. We're celebrating with a host of events especially for our volunteers. We will be recruiting new volunteers too. Look out for recruitment events at St Ives Library (6 June), Histon Library (7 June), Cottenham Library (8 June) and St Neots Library (9 June). Also visit our website.

Thank you to all our volunteers!
Cambridgeshire Community Fair
Join us at the Burgess Hall in St Ives for a wide range of discussions on funding for community projects and more at the Cambridgeshire Community Fair, Tuesday 7 June 2016, 2pm and 6pm. The Community Fair has been set up to help communities think about how they can fund, build and do more in their own villages and towns.

The event is completely free of charge to attend. No booking is required - just turn up on the day.

Have you got an old electrical item that has lost its spark?
recycling_thumbs_up.jpg
Six million waste electrical and electronic items are thrown away every year yet half of them could have been re-used or recycled.

To encourage more recycling, there are five events across the County where you can take your unwanted electricals. This initiative is run by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Waste Partnership. Find out more.
