Celebrate National Libraries Day - Saturday 6 February
Events and activities are planned across Cambridgeshire on Saturday 6 February to celebrate National Libraries Day.

As part of the celebrations, we will also offer up to half price on all DVD and CD hire, that's just £1 to borrow a DVD, from 6 - 21 February. 
 
National Libraries Day is a great opportunity to support libraries across the county. This year, we have adventure based 'Get Lost in Your Library' themed family events, special offers, competitions, history talks and much, much more.

We'd also encourage local residents to become a member of Cambridgeshire Libraries and invite friends and family to join.

Archives and Local Studies opening hours - Public Consultation
Cambridgeshire Archives and Local Studies is consulting the public on specific proposals relating to new opening hours.

The consultation will run until 26 February. We would welcome your feedback. Complete the survey now
 
Have you say on the future of Cambridgeshire Libraries by 15 February
Please remember we are asking people for their opinions about the proposals to reduce opening hours at larger libraries and spending less on new library stock.

LGBT History Month
It's LGBT History Month in February. The overall aim is to promote equality and diversity for the benefit of the public. To celebrate LGBT History Month, SexYOUality LGBT 20:20 vision oral history project will be showcased at Central Library with a workshop delivered by staff and young people exploring the hidden histories of LGBT people in Cambridgeshire.

The event will take place on 27 February, 3:00pm - 5:00pm.


Public exhibition - Milton Road Library site redevelopment
Carter Jonas and Cambridgeshire Libraries invite you to a public exhibition on proposals for the redevelopment of the Milton Road Library site at Milton Road Library on Tuesday 9 February, 4.00pm - 7.30pm.
  
If you are unable to attend, further information can obtained from Carter Jonas or  find proposal and a survey on our website from 10 February.
St Ives Library - temporary closure 
St Ives Library will close for a week to enable the creation of two community meeting rooms and other minor improvements to the library. Work will commence on Monday 15 February, with the library reopening on Monday 29 February.

Loan periods will be extended to cover the closed period. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Rock Road Library - temporary closure 
Rock Road Library will close Thursday 3 - Friday 4 March inclusive (reopening Saturday 5 March) to allow minor improvement works to the library.

Poetry By Heart 
The Cambridgeshire Final of Poetry By Heart, the national poetry recitation competition for students in Years 10 - 13 will be held at the Council Chambers in Shire Hall, Castle Hill, Cambridge on Wednesday 24 February. The competition involves students reciting two poems by heart: one pre 1914 and one post 1914.  Poet Laureate Jonathan Totman will be reading some of his poems during the competition interval. 1916 - Year of Battles talk
Friends of Central Library present 1916 - Year of Battles, a talk by Dr Sean Lang, author of First World War for Dummies.

The event will take place at Central Library, Saturday 6 February at 2.30pm.  
Arts Alive events
Arts Alive events continue this month with Opera Dudes - Classic Cabaret, 26 February at Littleport Library.

You can now purchase tickets for A Pleasing Terror, Two Ghost Stories by M R James, 19 March also at Littleport Library.
Sugar Smart Change4Life pack give away
Four-to-10 year olds consume an estimated 5,500 sugar cubes a year (22kg), weighing the same as an average five-year-old. The Sugar Smart Change4Life campaign encourages parents to take control of their children's sugar intake.

New Mediatheque Collections from the BFI National Archive
Discover a wealth of film and television at the BFI Mediatheque, located on the 3rd Floor at Central Library. Recently added new collections include Visions of Britain:  British documentaries from the 1950s to 1960s, The Truth about Love: a British take on themes of passion and desire, and Football on Film: documentaries and drama of football pitches past. 

Browse the catalogue, select a title of your choice, sit back and enjoy at Central Library!
The Love Food Fair
The Love Food Fair, will be held at Cambridge Central Library, 3rd floor on 20 February from 10.30am - 3.00pm.

There will be a variety of different groups and organisations providing top tips on food, eating healthily, grow  your own, and some tasty samples. The Fair is free to attend.
 
Community Navigators - consultation survey

Cambridgeshire County Council is currently reviewing how it offers support for older and vulnerable people through Cambridgeshire's Community Navigators scheme. To help us do this we would like to hear your thoughts on the Community Navigators scheme and how this is helping you, a family member, friend, or a client to remain independent, safe and well.
 
Free Business Boost for Cambridgeshire women in business!
12 events supporting women in business, on behalf of Cambridgeshire County Council's Connecting Cambridgeshire programme, will be taking place throughout Cambridgeshire over the next few months. Featuring bookable 1-2-1s, workshops and drop-in sessions with business coaches, IT and social media experts, the events are free and suitable for all skill levels.

Women can learn how to set up and run various social media platforms, use Microsoft Office more effectively and create/update their own website using WordPress as well as get support on how to set up or grow their business.

Code Club - coming soon... 
An exciting new Code Club for children aged 9-11 will start at Huntingdon Library soon. Children can learn how to make cool computer games, animations and websites at the club. We are still looking for more volunteers to help us run the club, so if you are aged 16+ and have some coding experience and are available to volunteer on alternate Saturday mornings, we would love to hear from you.
