 Family Learning Festival 2012
Family Learning FestivalGet crafty with collage, arty with a children's book illustrator or create your very own puppet.

  

These are just some of the activities on offer at Cambridgeshire Libraries as part of this years Family Learning Festival

 

The events, funded by the Council's Family Learning department, include Very Hungry Caterpillar collage sessions with artist Marian Savill, an art workshop with children's illustrator Victoria Jane Clark and puppet making, following a Theatre of Widdershins production of Rapunzel and the Tower of Doom.

All events are free but parents/carers will need to collect tickets in advance. The events will take place at a number of libraries between Friday 19 October and Thursday 1 November.

Have you tried our e-book or e-audio book service?

e-audiobooksCambridgeshire Libraries is pleased to offer its new e-audio download service, provided by One Click Digital. This service is completely free and accessible 24 hours a day, 
seven days a week.

 

There are no waiting lists and the hundreds of bestselling audiobooks are compatible with iPod, MP3 players, tablets (e.g. iPad and Android) and personal computers.

 Ebooks

Library members can also download e-books onto your computer or e-book reader. Much like the e-audio download service, it's completely free. You can download up to four e-books (including one request) and there are no overdues, as loans expire after three weeks.

2 for 1 cinema tickets with your library card

Arts Picturehouse

The Reading Agency has teamed up with Picturehouse Cinemas to offer library card holders two for one entry to see Liberal Arts. All you have to do is present your library card when buying your tickets.

 

You can watch Liberal Arts at the Arts Picturehouse, Cambridge. The offer ends on 30 November 2012 so be quick!

Author talks

Author talks As part of the 50th anniversary celebrations for The Cromwell Museum, Don Jordan and Michael Walsh will talk about their new book 'The King's Revenge: Charles II and the Greatest Manhunt in British History' at Huntingdon Library on Saturday 20 October between 1.30-2.30pm. The authors will also be on hand to answer questions and sign copies of the book.

 

Number one bestselling author Josephine Cox will be at March Library on Tuesday 6 November. Come along and meet Josephine for morning tea and cake at 11am.

Big Draw on Tour

Big Draw on TourCome draw with us at Cambridge Central Library on Saturday 27 October between 2pm - 4pm!

 

The whole family can explore our mini museum of objects on loan from the University of Cambridge Museums and take part in an artist led workshop to create your own illustrated stories and contribute to our giant 'consequences' style storyboard. Get top drawing tips and inspiration from our illustration students volunteers from Cambridge School of Art at ARU.

Black History Month 2012

Black History Month 2012Cambridgeshire Libraries would like to invite you to celebrate and discover Black History Month during October 2012.

 

We have collected some of the most influential writers and books whose writing reflects the social issues and lifestyles of modern-day multicultural Britain and the United States. Our booklist aims to cover a representative selection of the variety available in our libraries.

 

Look out for more books and authors celebrating Black History Month 2012, in libraries across Cambridgeshire and share your favourites with us on Facebook and Twitter.
