Learn to Camp Program

Are you new to camping, know someone who is, or want to freshen up on your knowledge? Camping and RV BC supports Parks Canada and MEC as they team up to present workshops on camping related skills like how to set up a tent, cook in the outdoors, wildlife safety and campfire tips. Participants have the opportunity to enjoy fun interpretive programs and other Parks Canada activities.

All the equipment is supplied, simply register and choose one of the locations listed below.

Parks Canada's Learn to Camp Locations:

Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Sites: July 18-19.
Fort Rodd Hill National Historic Site interprets the national historic significance of the Victoria-Esquimalt fortifications. Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Site, built in 1860, is nationally significant as the first lighthouse on Canada's rugged west coast. Located on the shores of the Juan de Fuca Strait, these adjacent historic sites are surrounded by beaches, Garry Oak meadows and stunning views. http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/lhn-nhs/bc/fortroddhill/index.aspx.

Fort Langley National Historic Site: June 27-28 and September 12-13.
Situated along the banks of the Fraser River, Fort Langley is the exact location where, a century and a half ago, a huge fur trade organization called the Hudson's Bay Company established a small post to trade with the First Nations of the West Coast. The enterprise grew, evolved, and influenced history, leading to the creation of the colony of British Columbia, at a ceremony held here in the Fort.

Canadian Camping Week

For the first time ever across British Columbia campgrounds celebrated Canadian Camping Week! A campaign designed to encourage Canadians to get outside to enjoy fun, safe and secure camping experiences with family and friends. Popular camping activities such as fishing contests, children's activities and family movie nights were hosted by participating campgrounds, and the week-long event culminated a special discounted camping weekend rate.

Over 435 campgrounds from coast to coast participated in this inaugural event that showcased all that Canadian camping has to offer. The week has been proclaimed by the Province of British Columbia.

Bring back your Wildhood with Go RVing Canada
Somewhere along the way, many of us have fallen prey to the idea that overproduced games, overscheduled days and shiny gadgets mean a happy childhood. However, many of our favourite childhood memories don't involve a jam-packed schedule, the most shiny plastic toy or even hours upon hours of playing video games.

A new campaign launched by Go RVing Canada aims to help Canadians reconnect with their sense of childhood adventure, and to encourage all Canadians to tap into their natural born camper. The Wildhood campaign is focused on helping Canadians rediscover the craving for exploration, adventure, curiosity, kinship and freedom we all knew as children, but may have gotten lost in the responsibilities of adulthood.
