Fall Camping - Ode to Fall Camping

Summer has ended, but camping in British Columbia is year round! Fall offers access to the ideal campsite without the crowds of people who only camp during summer.

Fall brings a whole different perspective of joys to be experienced outdoors, such as crisp cool air yet warm days, colourful foliage, and activities such as salmon fishing or wildlife viewing.  The harvest is in full swing and people enjoy apples, wine, pumpkins to name a few of the lands delights.

Unlike summer, the cooler temperatures and shorter daylight hours require rethinking what clothes to pack, the camping gear you'll need, etc. The Camping and RV BC Coalition (CRVBCC) has plenty of information to get campers on their way to enjoying a safe and enjoyable camping adventure.

Opening My Eyes to the Open Road: Travelling Canada by RV - By Jon Montgomery, Canadian Olympic Gold Medalist

Jon and Darlene Montgomery

It's been a very, very long time since I've had any extra time on my hands, but this is precisely where I found myself this summer. I wanted to make the most of it and I wanted to go on a trip that I would never forget. And that's how I discovered RVing.

Due to my recent retirement from Skeleton racing, I had extra time. In fact, I had more time than I've had in 20 years, or since before I could drive... legally at least! My wife Darla and I wanted to take advantage of our recent life changes which also included a move to Victoria. We had a number of commitments that our wagon was tied to and our attendance was mandatory, so we had to build the rest of our holiday around those. Little did we know the perfect solution was waiting.

Final Salute to the Salmon - By BC Parks
Roderick haig brown
Spectacular Salmon Run

This October (3rd to 26th) BC Parks is celebrating a majesty of nature that never ceases to amaze. Millions of sockeye salmon will traverse immense distances to find their way back to Roderick Haig-Brown Provincial Park where they were born and will create a magnificent display of beauty, resilience and determination for visitors to the park.

Every four years, BC Parks and the Adams River Salmon Society celebrate this astonishing event with the Salute to the Sockeye festivities. BC Parks welcomes visitors of all ages from near and far to Roderick Haig-Brown Park and hopes to share, teach and cherish this experience with you.

Where to Fish- Three Fall Destinations
Catch of the day!

Now that summer holidays have come to an end, this is definitely not the time to pack away your fishing gear. In fact, the best fishing is still to come at lakes and rivers across British Columbia

A Fall Camping Recipe for Success

As the weather and landscape changes our stomachs instinctively prepare for the bounty of scrumptious food we all associate with fall and harvest time. The perfect fall meal will fortify and fuel campers in preparation for a nice long hike or chilly morning fishing excursion (or a nap). Go ahead and throw on Neil Young's Harvest Moon before you prepare this tasty biscuit/bannock recipe on your morning fire. Jazz the warm biscuits up with butter and fresh preserves, a dash of cinnamon or some maple syrup. If you're lucky enough to have leftovers use them to dip in soup or stew for dinner!
