This Sunday is Communion Sunday. Holy Communion will be served in all worship services. Our Communion Offering for August will go to our Benevolence Fund, which is used to help individuals and families in our community who find themselves in financial need. We assist with rent and utilities, in partnership with GRACE and other churches in our area, as long as funds are available. If you would like to give, mark Benevolence in the memo of your gift and bring it with you to the altar during communion, place it in the offering plate, or give online.

Youth, be sure you come out for Hooked this Sunday, 8:30-8 PM in the HUB. One of our candidates for Student Ministry Director will be leading! Please come meet this potential leader. This is your youth group and we want YOU to have a say in the future of the program! Let us know you're coming on Sign-Up Genius.

The United Methodist Women are starting the process of organizing and maintaining the Leach Hall kitchen. If you or your group has anything in the kitchen that you want to keep, please be sure it is clearly marked. If you are missing a dish or container, you might check this upstairs kitchen for your lost items. If the UMW does not hear from you, they will dispose of things that don't appear to be needed. Contact Kathy Langham (kathy.langham@gmx.com or 817-845-8281) to communicate your group's needs.

God Can for the GRACE Food Pantry
Don't forget to grab some extra items when you do your grocery shopping! GRACE is out of saltines, instant potatoes, jelly, salt and pepper (shakers), juices, chili... and they are low on a number of other items. Click here to view the full list of needs (pdf). If you would like to donate any of these items, please bring your donations to the God Can bins outside the church office or in the Sanctuary Foyer/Atrium.
Opportunities to Grow...

by Fred Rigdon
Lectio Divina is a slower, more reflective reading of the scriptures that allows God to speak directly to us, according to what he knows we need. I have found it to be a very meaningful practice, even in scriptures that I have read many times before.  In the process of spiritual formation, we try different "disciplines" or practices in order to become closer to our Lord and to see Him in all things.  This practice has been a powerful help to me in this process. The following comes from the book, "50 Ways to Pray" by Teresa Blythe.

Caught Caring

Sharing Jesus Calling
Our church is still caring for others by sharing the Jesus Calling devotional book! We have recently given 50 books to Independence Hall Assisted Living Center in Bowie, Texas, where Sandra Paolucci's mom lives. Sandra is one of our church members who is involved in the Bible Study that Amy Wicke attended. If you've forgotten (or never read) the story behind how this all started, please visit bit.ly/wordsofpeace to check it out! Remember that we are still taking your donations to help continue this blessed ministry.

Our Hispanic Ministry Institute (HMI) hosted a picnic last Saturday, July 30. FUMC Grapevine invited families from the Mustang Dr., King St., and Grapevine Village. In addition we also had a group from the FUMC Arlington there. About 60 people came out for fellowship at Parr Park, playing softball, kickball, and soccer. Several of the young children headed to the wet park, where mom & dad also enjoyed the coolness of the water. Afterwards we joined together for a meal. It was obvious how God was in the midst of all we were doing. Several of the families are involved in our HMI Leadership training. FUMC Arlington Hispanic attendance has grown since they started participating in the Leadership program(30-40 attendance). They, in turn, have also helped with Leadership training with a church in Irving. FUMC Grapevine, through the Hispanic Ministry Institute, continues to reach out and help resource other churches by providing Leadership, Vision/Mission Alignment, Evangelistic Aptitude, Passionate Spirituality, and Cultural Attitudes. Leadership Training, Seminars, Consulting, Mentoring, Coaching and Conferences are done in both English & Spanish. If you are interested in learning more about this great ministry, contact Rev. Armando Alvarado, Jr. at armandoa@fumcg.org.
