07/30/2016 - VAST Training
VAST is the after-school program we host at our church in cooperation with the Grapevine Police Department's Outreach Center. Training is required for anyone interested in volunteering for VAST. The first training session for volunteers is at the Outreach Center on July 30 from 9-11 AM (there will be another here on August 20, including MinistrySafe training). Campus Improvements: What's Next
On Sunday, July 17, we held a "Town Hall" meeting to discuss the Trustees' plans for allocating the proceeds from the property sales of various non-strategic parts of our campus. If you missed that meeting, you can still read the entire recap on our website.



We are hearing many questions about what's next, so we want to clarify. The Trustees are working with an architect to develop concepts and budgets for updates to Founders Chapel. The details are not ready yet, but as soon as they are we will schedule additional Town Hall meetings to share these plans with the congregation. Then, we'll have a church conference to vote on the plan. If it is approved, work will begin. We anticipate that this will happen in the fall. This means that we will not have the use of Founders Chapel for a time, and therefore our Sunday morning schedule will have to be adjusted. We'll be announcing those adjustments as soon as they are finalized.


In the meantime, we are moving forward with renovations to the former Senior Activity Center (a new name for that building will be announced soon) to accommodate the Thrift Shop, Justice for Our Neighbors and Sunday School Classes. See below for info on a Thrift Shop work day coming soon.

Our Tween Mission Trip will be August 3-6, starting at 5 PM on Wednesday evening and running until 1 PM on Saturday. Our theme this year is "You Are My Neighbor." 08/06/2016 - CONNECT Back-to-School Fair
On August 6, 2016 Connect will host the 5th Annual Connect/GCISD Back to School Fair at Grapevine High School. This fair serves those in GCISD who are classified as economically disadvantaged, which is roughly 1 in 4 of the students GCISD serves. Over 1,800 children are already signed up to attend the fair and receive school supplies, backpacks and information about community resources. We have an urgent need for full size backpacks for all grades (K-12). Bring new backpacks to the church office, sanctuary or atrium outside Founders Chapel by August 2.  If you would like to volunteer at the fair, use Sign-Up Genius or contact Carolyn Ann Walgren (cawalgren@connectgcisd.org or 817-300-4435). 08/06/2016 - Back to School with Sisters in Faith!
You are invited to join Sisters in Faith UMW in supporting children as we prepare for the new school year this August. On Saturday, August 6, 9am-12pm, serve as a "Buddy" at the 5th Annual Back to School Fair for GCISD. Help guide families through the Back to School Fair so that they have all the support they need to ensure a successful start to the 2016/2017 school year. The need is 150 Buddies and currently there are 13 folks signed up. 08/08/2016 - All-Star Sports Camp
We are excited to host the All-Star Sports Camp in cooperation with Triumph Sports again this summer! The Sports Camp is a multi-sport camp consisting of fun games like Dodgeball, Kickball, Capture the Flag, and other games revolving around classic sports like Basketball, Flag Football, and Soccer. On Thursday, August 11, the Iron Men will host a special breakfast featuring Don Graves, a veteran of World War II, as our guest speaker. 08/13/2016 - Thrift Shop Work Day
The Thrift Shop is preparing to move to their new location in the former Grapevine Senior Activity Center. We will have a work day on Saturday, August 13, to move and assemble shelving units. Here's how you can help: If you have a strong back and like a good workout, meet at 8:00 AM at the portable buildings on Franklin Street (by our Sanctuary parking lot) and help load shelving units which will then be unloaded across Church Street. Help assemble shelving units at 9:00 AM inside the former Senior Activity Center (we'll be coming up with a new name soon). If you have a rubber mallet bring it along! On Sunday, August 14, we are having a picnic get-together to start off the upcoming year of ministry for Helping Hands, our ministry to those with special abilities. Texas Tenors - Deep in the Heart of Christmas
Grayful Spirits, our senior adult ministry, is making plans to hear the Texas Tenors on Saturday, December 17, at 2 PM at Grapevine's Historic Palace Theatre. We know it's months away, but tickets are selling out fast! We have SOLD OUT of the 30 tickets we had reserved, and have been able to secure a few more. The cost is $36 each ($6 savings over box office price). If you'd like to go, please purchase tickets in the church office ASAP. Payment is by check or cash. Regretfully, no refunds will be made but you may offer or sell your tickets to another person. This event is open to any adult (not limited to 55+) and attendees do not have to be FUMCG members. Musikgarten Registration
Musikgarten is now registering for Fall Classes. New this year is a Family Time night class for working parents. Classes also offered during the mornings and afternoons for ages newborn through 9 years of age.  Mary Diane Morley, director of Musikgarten of Grapevine, has been teaching young children since 1994.  Classes are held in room 2001.  For more information and details, visit

Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministers work alongside our pastors to care, encourage, and provide emotional and spiritual support to people who are going through a difficult time. If you have gifts for caring, encouragement, and listening, Stephen Ministry might be the right place for you to serve! The application deadline for Stephen Ministries is August 1. Christmas in July!
It's Christmas in July! This is a great time to be collecting school supplies, toys, hygiene items, etc., and planning packing parties for Operation Christmas Child. OCC brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations worldwide through simple, gift-filled shoe boxes and evangelistic materials that tell the Good News of God's love.  If you'd like to donate items, please leave them in the box outside the church office through the month of July. God Can for the GRACE Food Pantry

We only collected 33 items for God Can this week. Don't forget to grab some extra items when you do your grocery shopping! GRACE is out of saltines, instant potatoes, jelly, salt and pepper (shakers), juices, chili... and they are low on a number of other items. Click here to view the full list of needs (pdf). Seekers Class Invites You to Brunch
Have you considered trying an adult Sunday School Class? Seekers invites you this Sunday, July 31, for our 5th Sunday Brunch in Leach Hall at 9:45 AM. We set aside every 5th Sunday to eat and fellowship together, without a lesson, so we can get to know each other better. Summer Fun Kids Honor Grapevine Police
The kids in our Summer Fun Days class were caught caring for our Grapevine Police Officers this week! The kids decorated and filled goody bags that were delivered to the Police Station. They filled 20 bags! So proud of them! 




Thrift Shop Movers

Some of our Thrift Shop volunteers were caught caring last week... out at the storage pod early in the morning moving boxes! Thanks for all your hard work!

The youth Mariachi Praise Band was caught caring last week... playing at the Atria Assisted Living Center!




Blood Drive Donors

Deepest appreciation from Carter BloodCare for helping us save lives in our community. Last Thursday, we saw 15 people and drew 12 whole blood units and 2 double red cells, for a total of 16 units. This will go a long way to help save 48 lives! After the Dallas tragedy we shipped hundreds of units of blood to Parkland and Baylor and have been scrambling to restock the shelves. Your donations will be instrumental in restoring the inventory back to normal levels. Thank you!
