Town Hall Recap
On Sunday, July 17, we held a "Town Hall" meeting to discuss the Trustees' plans for allocating the proceeds from the property sales of various non-strategic parts of our campus. As a reminder, our church voted in September 2015 to sell the Heritage Campus (with one-third of the proceeds to be held for a new church/ministry start), the Heritage parsonage, two houses on Ball Street and two houses on College Street (Forbes House and Thrift Shop). The plan was to work toward a new location for the ministries in the Forbes House and Thrift Shop, and better utilize the value held on those properties to further our ministries in our community.

Pastor John Mollet recapped the recent city council meeting where they approved leasing to us the former Senior Activities Center. We plan to move the Thrift Shop, Justice For Our Neighbors, Sunday School classes, Boy Scout Troop 4, and other mission related activities to that building later this summer. The lease is for five years with an option to renew and a right to potentially purchase the property at the end of the lease. Part of the negotiations with the city included trading the house at 427 Ball Street for a reduction in the monthly rent on the new space. The church continues to own and control that Ball Street house over the next five years.

We are in the process of preparing new plats for the houses on College Street (Forbes House and Thrift Shop). That needs to be completed with the city before we can list the houses for sale and return them to private residences in the historic district.

We completed the sales of the Heritage parsonage, one of the houses on Ball Street and the Heritage Campus. The Grapevine-Colleyville school district purchased the Heritage Campus with the intent to use the space for additional offices until long-range plans are completed.

Ralph Pettingell, chair of the Trustees, outlined the Trustees' allocation of the estimated total proceeds from all of these property sales (remember we have not yet sold the two houses on College Street). The allocation of the estimated total $2.8 million is summarized as follows:

Debt reduction (a tithe)
$300,000
Endowment (to bring up to $1 million)
127,000
New Church/Ministry start
658,000
Future Capital Expenditures
400,000
Preparation costs for College Street houses
100,000
New A/C for Founders Chapel
250,000
Founders Chapel Renovations
1,000,000

Work is underway to plan what will be done with the Founders Chapel renovation. The Trustees are working with an architect to develop concepts and budgets. We intend to hold additional Town Hall meetings to share these ideas with the congregation in advance of a church conference on this matter. We are working on a timeline to start renovations this fall.

Please address any questions or comments to our clergy members, our Trustees or our lay leader, Ed Crater.

Texas Tenors - Deep in the Heart of Christmas
Grayful Spirits, our senior adult ministry, is making plans to hear the Texas Tenors on Saturday, December 17, at 2 PM at Grapevine's Historic Palace Theatre. We know it's months away, but tickets are selling out fast! We were able to reserve
30 tickets for a group rate of $36 each ($6 savings over box office price). Other shows have already sold out, so we wanted to make sure and get tickets while we can. If you'd like to go, please purchase tickets in the church office by July 29. Payment is by check or cash. Regretfully, no refunds will be made but you may offer or sell your tickets to another person. This event is open to any adult (not limited to 55+) and attendees do not have to be FUMCG members. Opportunities to Serve and Give...
Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministers work alongside our pastors to care, encourage, and provide emotional and spiritual support to people who are going through a difficult time. If you have gifts for caring, encouragement, and listening, Stephen Ministry might be the right place for you to serve! The application deadline for Stephen Ministries is August 1. Applications are available on our website. A training start date will be determined at a later date. Contact Katherine Hunter (katherineh@fumcg.org, 817-481-2559 x130) to get an application.
We had a great turnout at the Latvia Share Session. After feedback, we've added some details to our list of opportunities to support Latvia.
  • Give to the Hope Center. The current urgent need here is for funds to help remediate mold, a sewage problem and insullation at the Hope Center. These repairs will help keep the babies and mothers well and out of the health clinic. About $5,500 of the $8,000 needed has been given... so the remaining need is $2,500. Any amount helps, and you can simply mark "Hope Center" in the memo of your gift.
  • Give scholarships to Wesley Camp. The current need is for $122 per camper, times 91 campers. Mark "Wesley Camp" in your memo.
  • Support the Latvian Pastors' Salary Fund. The churches in Latvia are not yet able to support their pastors with a living wage. The wage for a full time pastor is currently $550 per month, and any gifts to this fund help. Regular scheduled giving to this fund would allow the pastors to receive a raise. Mark "Latvia Pastors Salary" in the memo.
  • Support our covenant congregation, Riga First. Our monthly commitment to Riga First is $450/month. You may give a one-time gift or set up monthly giving. Mark "Riga First Support" in the memo.
  • Go to Latvia. Any of our team members will be happy to contact you and answer any questions you may have.
  • Be a part of building relationships with Riga First. We are always looking for ideas of how we can strengthen our connection.
If you haven't already, we invite you to watch the video recap of our recent trip. Questions? Contact Bev Campisi (beverlyc@fumcg.org, 817-481-2559 x140), Melissia Mason (melissiam@fumcg.org, 817-481-2559 x109)....»

It's Christmas in July! This is a great time to be collecting school supplies, toys, hygiene items, etc., and planning packing parties for Operation Christmas Child. OCC brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations worldwide through simple, gift-filled shoe boxes and evangelistic materials that tell the Good News of God's love.  If you'd like to donate items, please leave them in the box outside the church office through the month of July. We'll also need volunteers to help with our efforts as we get closer to collection time in the fall. If you're interested in helping, contact Neil Anderson (817-430-1678 or stealthna@charter.net). Visit www.samaritanspurse.org/OCC for more information on what items to donate and details about how to pack a box....»

God Can for the GRACE Food Pantry

We collected 115 items last week and 65 items this week! Don't forget to grab some extra items when you do your grocery shopping! Note that GRACE has recently updated their needs list! They are out of saltines, instant potatoes, jelly, salt and pepper (shakers), juices, chili... and they are low on a number of other items. Click here to view the full list of needs (pdf). If you would like to donate any of these items, please bring your donations to the God Can bins outside the church office or in the Sanctuary Foyer/Atrium.
Opportunities to Grow...

by Fred Rigdon
Spiritual formation can be defined in a number of ways. Some define it as "becoming like Jesus" or "getting ourselves ready for Heaven." Dallas Willard, in The Great Omission, said, "Spiritual Formation may be thought of as the shaping of the inner life, the spirit or the spiritual side of the human being. The formation of the heart or the will (which I believe is best taken as the spirit) of the individual, along with the emotions and the intellect, is therefore the primary focus, regardless of what overt practices may or may not be involved." Keep reading...>>>
Caught Caring

Gifts Given
A gift has been given to Feed Our Kids by the Connections Sunday School Class in honor of Ronnie Willis.

Last week CTCYM had 30 youth and 24 adults in Clyde, Texas from FUMC Grapevine, Trinity UMC in Arlington and FUMC Temple. We built 4 wheel chair ramps, painted, did landscaping at the church and completed a special project for the community. Clyde FUMC has a community garden and gives fresh produce to people in the community who need it. We converted an unused shed next to the garden into a chicken coop and bought them 10 chickens, so they could also provide protein to the community. In addition we made them a sign for their garden, with the handprint of everyone on the trip.

Stephen Ministers Commissioned

Last Sunday, we commissioned two new Stephen Ministers - Jeannette Gross and MJ Mowery. Stephen Ministers go through 50+ hours of training in order to work alongside our pastors to care, encourage, and provide emotional and spiritual support to people who are going through a difficult time. We are grateful for all of our Stephen Ministers and their dedication to this important work. Read more at www.firstmethodistgrapevine.org/stephenministry.

This past Tuesday, Sandra Nasr passed the mantel of volunteer coordinator for Be Our Guest on to new volunteers - Bruce & Rene Herndon! Thank you, Sandra, for your dedicated service!

Feed Our Kids

We had a big, big week at Feed our Kids Big Week! We had over 80 volunteers each day who prepared over 800 lunches for a total of 805.5 volunteer hours. Our leadership team began working last year to plan and organize Big Week. Three leaders served over 380 hours, many of it in these last few months, to make everything run smoothly. We had over $1,625 worth of snacks donated by the congregation.

If you're a numbers person, these numbers are big! So many volunteers preparing so many lunches for so many children and amidst all of the "bigness," there are the individual stories. From so many lunches come the moments when one child is handed a lunch or helped across a busy street with food and books in hand. Those are the God moments of the week for the volunteers. Those are the times when you know a child is seeing the love of Christ in the form of a lunch. So many lives were blessed last week, including ours! Thank you for all of the support this congregation has for Big Week and so many of our missions. God is with us, blessing our community and blessing us.
