Love Offering Updates
Kenya Evangelists - In Honor of Trudy Hughes
As most of you know, Trudy Hughes will be retiring as our long-time Business Administrator at the end of May. We have made a custom of recognizing our staff as they transition to their next opportunity through a love offering and/or reception to honor them. Since Trudy and Allan will continue to be members of our church, she has requested that we forego a reception. She is happy to receive a love offering, but in the form of donations designated to support the Kenyan evangelists. Trudy's heart has been with our Kenyan friends for the past seven years and she would love to see us support the mission that she loves and cares about so deeply. To date, we have received $3,600, which provides one year of support for three evangelists or three years of support for one evangelist. If you would like to honor Trudy and her service with First United Methodist Church of Grapevine, please make a donation in Trudy's honor to our Kenyan Evangelists. Mark your check, envelope or online gift with "Trudy - Kenya Evangelists" in the memo.

Organ Pipes To Be Installed!
When the Sanctuary was completed in 2001, the chancel area was designed and built to feature a full pipe organ. The purchase of the pipes was always planned to be funded outside the annual church budget. Faithful donors have given to a "pipe organ fund" since the Sanctuary opening. In an effort to complete this project in time for our church's 150th year celebration, a church family has offered to match any remaining gifts, dollar for dollar. We wish to give you the opportunity to give toward this exciting addition to our worship experience. Donations of any size are welcome. You may simply indicate "Organ Pipes" in the memo of your check, envelope or online gift. Read more...»

Top Need: Compassion Fund & Gas Cards
Our top need this week is for donations to the Compassion Fund. These funds are used to assist members of our church who find themselves in financial need. If you would like to give, simply mark "Compassion" in the memo of your check, envelope or online gift. Note that we are also in need of gas cards.
High School Mission: Adult Volunteers & Food Donations Needed
About 75 high school youth and sponsors are traveling to Bauxite, Arkansas June 12-18 for a week of mission work. If you would like to be a part of the mission, it's not too late! Here's how you can help:
- Be a work team adult volunteer. We still need about 4-6 work team adults to go to the sites with the youth and help lead the team of youth in carrying out various construction activities (painting, wheel chair ramps, fix up jobs, drywall, roofing). You must be 21 years of age or older and have completed the Ministry Safe Training. If you have questions or want more information, please contact Kim Crater at 972-523-0354 or eclaysman@aol.com. If you are interested in going, please contact lindam@fumcg.org as soon as possible.
- Donate food. While on mission trip, the team will consume over 1,200 meals and snacks! That calls for a lot of food. We need your help to keep them well-fed while they are the hands and feet of Jesus in the community throughout the week. On Sunday, May 29, we will have grocery bags available after each service. Please consider picking up a bag, purchasing the item on the outside of the bag and returning it to the church no later than Sunday, June 5.
Thrift Shop Needs Winter Clothing!
We know it's time to be thinking of summer, but the volunteers at the Thrift Shop are already looking ahead to fall and winter! We have far less children's winter clothing than we would normally at this time of year. Please go through your closets and help us by donating any children's winter clothing that you won't be needing next fall. We always appreciate your support!
Angel Wings Ministry Would you like to be a part of a team that provides transportation for people who are unable to drive? Angel Wings Ministry works with members that are in need of rides to worship services and/or medical appointments. All you need is a vehicle, a friendly, helpful attitude and the ability to give "light" assistance to persons getting in and out of a vehicle. If you would like to help, contact Barbara Evartt at 817-283-0682.
We need your help at the Access-Life Expo, an event for individuals and families living with disabilities. This year's Expo is on Saturday, June 18, from 10 AM to 2 PM at Oak Grove Park, Trawick Pavillion, at Lake Grapevine. We will provide 2,400 pounds of ice and 2,500 bottles of water. Access-Life will also be collecting mobility and medical supplies to send to individuals and families living with disabilities in Belize. You also have the opportunity to volunteer the day of the event. Visit www.firstmethodistgrapevine.org/access-life for more information....»

Opportunities to Grow...
Too Busy Not to Pray
From the Spiritual Formation Blog... "Longing For God"
by Nancy Johnson
I often find myself longing for God which may result from my wandering away from my prayer time or reading of scripture, but also because when I am "in the zone" with God I find I actually want even more. Yearning for God is also how we can grow spiritually. It's comforting to me to remember that my desire for God did not start because of something I did but it started because of God's desire for me and for us all. We love because God first loved us (1 John 4:19) and Christ died for us while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8). It is key to our lives to cultivate a longing for God and to desire His goodness and wisdom but most of all Him! Keep reading...>>>

Costa Rica Mission Trip Recap...
Worship and work, teach and play, love and service describe our Costa Rica mission trip! 17 FUMC Grapevine missionaries were blessed with a week of building in San Jose: building a multipurpose facility for the Hogar Metodista Children's Home, building a bond with local church members and children at VBS, building relationships with orphans who have been abandoned, mistreated, or given up in hopes that they might have a better life, building lifelong connections with fellow FUMCG church members and building up the body of Christ through love. Travel adventures, both to and from Costa Rica, volcano eruptions, ziplines and beautiful waterfalls added a touch of excitement to the trip as well!
Mixing and pouring cement, spreading mortar and laying cinder blocks seem to be a never ending process in construction of the multipurpose facility! We lost count of the buckets of cement and wheelbarrow loads that were filled, hauled, scooped, lifted and dumped! It certainly is satisfying to see the height of the walls grow higher and higher, though. Steel cross beams are even being fitted in rooms to begin the second floor.
Thankfully, several children have been adopted over the last year, including the Home's first international adoption to a family in Italy. Three U.S. adoptions are also pending. However, the average number of children living in each of the two homes has increased this year, from 8-9 kids in 2015 to 11-12 children in 2016 for a total of 22-24 kids living there most of this year. As a result, food costs have increased 25%.
Like last year, squatters continue to be a critical menace to the Home, encroaching closer and closer, with one new home being only a couple of feet from the property. Funds for the privacy wall have been depleted, but the Zirkels hope to receive a grant from another church in June in order to renew construction efforts.
Currently the greatest needs at Hogar are funds for food, transportation costs and unexpected budgetary items like dental emergencies. Construction priorities include securing the property with the perimeter wall and possibly building a guard house which, of course, depends on the availability of funds and the efforts of mission teams.
The Costa Rica team is passionate about serving our village in San Jose and would love to share the stories of the children with you: stories of heartbreak, stories of survival, stories of success, stories of faith and stories of love. Please contact Cathy Jackson (slcfbmom@aol.com) or Pastor Armando (armandoa@fumcg.com) to schedule a time for your Sunday School class or other group.
