Main Street Fest
Main Street Fest is this weekend, May 20-22. We will be very busy this year with the youth parking lot fundraiser, the booth at the event itself, and manning one of the entrance gates. This is a great opportunity to spread the word to the community about the ministries of our church. If you're still looking for a way to be a part, contact: Pam De La Cruz for parking lot (jonpam.dlc@verizon.net), Hilarie Benedetto for the booth (hilarieanne@tx.rr.com) or Manny Garcia for the entrance gate (214-675-1903). Note that the Thrift Shop will be closed on Friday and Saturday for Main Street Fest. However, you may still drop donations in the drop box.

Love Offering Updates

Kenya Evangelists - In Honor of Trudy Hughes
As most of you know, Trudy Hughes will be retiring as our long-time Business Administrator at the end of May. We have made a custom of recognizing our staff as they transition to their next opportunity through a love offering and/or reception to honor them. Since Trudy and Allan will continue to be members of our church, she has requested that we forego a reception. She is happy to receive a love offering, but in the form of donations designated to support the Kenyan evangelists. Trudy's heart has been with our Kenyan friends for the past seven years and she would love to see us support the mission that she loves and cares about so deeply.
To date, we have received $500, which provides about 6 months of support for one evangelist. If you would like to honor Trudy and her service with First United Methodist Church of Grapevine, please make a donation in Trudy's honor to our Kenyan Evangelists. Mark your check, envelope or online gift with "Trudy - Kenya Evangelists" in the memo.

Feeding Ministries - In Honor of Dr. Cindy Ryan

Update on our Feeding and Giving Miracle by Dr. Cindy Ryan

Your generosity continues to inspire and overwhelm me. To date you have given $58,782 to sponsor 816 GCISD children to receive Weekend Food next school year. In addition, you have responded to the invitation to give to "fill up" our other feeding ministries: Weekend Food for the remainder of this school year, Be Our Guest Neighborhood Meal, and Feed Our Kids summer feeding program. If you would still like to give, just designate which ministry you'd like to support in the memo of your check, envelope or online gift. I cannot express the joy that fills my heart that you have responded in this giant way to feeding all these hungry people!
We're preparing for a summer full of fun activities and outreach! Check out the insert in your bulletin on Sundays or sign up online at www.firstmethodistgrapevine.org/sos.

Winds of Change... What Now?

Deadline for Group Sign-Up: This Friday, May 20

A couple of weeks have now passed since the last Winds of Change Workshop, and you may find yourself wondering how to use some of the important skills we talked about over those five weeks. If you're an adult who would like to strengthen your life skills - skills like the ones we discussed during the Winds of Change Workshop - please consider yourself invited to join us on a continuing journey! Myrna Loy Ashby, LPC, LMFT will facilitate groups to further develop deeper trust in God and self, healthy relationship skills, resiliency, effective communication, grief resolution skills, creative potential, and the gifts of freedom. Attendance at the Winds of Change Workshop is not a prerequisite to participate in upcoming groups, which will be offered Sundays, 06/04/16 through 07/23/16, 2-4 PM and Thursdays, 06/09/16 through 07/28/16, 6:30-8:30 PM. Unlike our previous Sunday and Wednesday Winds of Change Workshops, group days are not interchangeable. Each group is limited to 15 members, and will require a minimum of 8 participants to make. The cost to participate is $400 for 8 weeks of 2-hour sessions. If you are interested in joining a group, please contact Katherine Hunter at katherineh@fumcg.org or 817-481-2559 x130 by May 20. Visit our website for full details...»

Opportunities to Serve and Give...
Organ Pipes To Be Installed!

When the Sanctuary was completed in 2001, the chancel area was designed and built to feature a full pipe organ. The purchase of the pipes was always planned to be funded outside the annual church budget. Faithful donors have given to a "pipe organ fund" since the Sanctuary opening. In an effort to complete this project in time for our church's 150th year celebration, a church family has offered to match any remaining gifts, dollar for dollar. We wish to give you the opportunity to give toward this exciting addition to our worship experience. Donations of any size are welcome. You may simply indicate "Organ Pipes" in the memo of your check, envelope or online gift. Read more...»

Our top need this week is for donations to the Compassion Fund. These funds are used to assist members of our church who find themselves in financial need. If you would like to give, simply mark "Compassion" in the memo of your check, envelope or online gift. Note that we are also in need of gas cards.

About 75 high school youth and sponsors are traveling to Bauxite, Arkansas June 12-18 for a week of mission work. If you would like to be a part of the mission, it's not too late! Here's how you can help:
  • Be a work team adult volunteer. We still need about 4-6 work team adults to go to the sites with the youth and help lead the team of youth in carrying out various construction activities (painting, wheel chair ramps, fix up jobs, drywall, roofing). You must be 21 years of age and have completed the Ministry Safe Training.  If you have questions or want more information, please contact Kim Crater at 972-523-0354 or eclaysman@aol.com. If you are interested in going, please contact lindam@fumcg.org as soon as possible.
  • Donate food. While on mission trip, the team will consume over 1,200 meals and snacks! That calls for a lot of food. We need your help to keep them well-fed while they are the hands and feet of Jesus in the community throughout the week. On Sunday, May 22, we will have grocery bags available after each service. Please consider picking up a bag, purchasing the item on the outside of the bag and returning it to the church no later than Sunday, June 5.
Thrift Shop Needs Winter Clothing!
We know it's time to be thinking of summer, but the volunteers at the Thrift Shop are already looking ahead to fall and winter! We have far less children's winter clothing than we would normally at this time of year. Please go through your closets and help us by donating any children's winter clothing that you won't be needing next fall. We always appreciate your support!

Angel Wings Ministry

Would you like to be a part of a team that provides transportation for people who are unable to drive? Angel Wings Ministry works with members that are in need of rides to worship services and/or medical appointments. All you need is a vehicle, a friendly, helpful attitude and the ability to give "light" assistance to persons getting in and out of a vehicle. If you would like to help, contact Barbara Evartt at 817-283-0682.

We need your help at the Access-Life Expo, an event for individuals and families living with disabilities. This year's Expo is on Saturday, June 18, from 10 AM to 2 PM at Oak Grove Park, Trawick Pavillion, at Lake Grapevine. We will provide 2,400 pounds of ice and 2,500 bottles of water. Access-Life will also be collecting mobility and medical supplies to send to individuals and families living with disabilities in Belize. You also have the opportunity to volunteer the day of the event. Visit www.firstmethodistgrapevine.org/access-life for more information....»

Opportunities to Grow...

True prayer - prayer that changes us and allows us to participate in God's work in the world - can't happen on the fly. The urgent need for prayer is clear, but busyness keeps many of us from finding time to pray. Bill Hybels offers us his practical, time-tested ideas on slowing down to pray. Too Busy Not to Pray, a five week instructional series, will be led by Sandra Nasr and Fred Rigdon. The classes will be held on Wednesday evenings from June 8 through July 13 (no class on July 6) from 6 to 7:30 PM (room location to be determined). The cost of the books is $20.  For more information or to sign up, contact Sandra Nasr (sandranasr58@gmail.com) or Fred Rigdon (crigdon1@verizon.net).

by Dr. Cindy Ryan
As I head toward embracing a new season in my life, I was asked to share some parting thoughts, specifically about Spiritual Formation. I love the term Soul Tending. As I've matured as a pastor and as a person, I believe more than ever that Soul Tending is absolutely essential in our Christian walk. I used to believe that Soul Tending was optional. I believed it went under the "Would Be Nice" category of life. Maybe you, like me, have a list of things that "Would Be Nice" that you think you will do some day. Someday, it would be nice to have a beach house; or to daily spend time with God. It would be nice to have long periods of rest and relaxation or to be in a group for spiritual accountability. I believed soul tending was something you did when you felt inspired or had long spans of time on your hands. I believed maybe soul tending was an activity for the retired.

Caught Caring

Gifts have been given to the Weekend Food ministry in memory of Dr. Kenneth Walgren by: Betty Davis, Kathy & Terry Davis, Kris & Scott Davis, Kelly & Bennett Murphy, Kyle & Cheryl Redfearn.

The staff would like to thank all of you who were CAUGHT CARING last week! We felt so appreciated by all the kind notes, the snacks, and the meals provided by Sunday School classes and Bible Study groups. We truly feel blessed by you! Thanks to the SPRC for CARING for us!

Miriam Ward shared that the choirs of FUMCG, presented gift cards to Linda Love, Scott Boiles, and Kay Green to express their gratitude for their devotion to our church and its music program during this transition period.

The United Methodist Women were caught caring earlier this month... making and delivering baskets of goodies to those who are homebound or ill. Thanks, ladies!
