Pentecost Sunday, May 15
Rev. John Mollet will speak in the English services
Mariella Alvarado will speak in the Bilingual service
"When Pentecost Day arrived, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound from heaven like the howling of a fierce wind filled the entire house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be individual flames of fire alighting on each one of them. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages as the Spirit enabled them to speak." Acts 2:1-8

News from the Staff/Parish Relations Committee
Staff Appreciation Week Thank you to everyone who has gone above and beyond to recognize our staff through a note, or kind word, or being a part of our week-long meals for our hard working folks. If you haven't had the opportunity, but are willing, we still have Staff Appreciation cards outside the church office and a box where you can deposit them. Thank you for blessing those who bless us through their hard work!
Trudy Hughes' Retirement
As most of you know, Trudy Hughes will be retiring as our long-time Business Administrator at the end of May. We have made a custom of recognizing our staff as they transition to their next opportunity through a love offering and/or reception to honor them. Since Trudy and Allan will continue to be members of our church, she has requested that we forego a reception. She is happy to receive a love offering, but in the form of donations designated to support the Kenyan evangelists. Trudy's heart has been with our Kenyan friends for the past seven years and she would love to see us support the mission that she loves and cares about so deeply. So, if you would like to honor Trudy and her service with First United Methodist Church of Grapevine, please make a donation in Trudy's honor to our Kenyan Evangelists. Mark your check, envelope or online gift with "Trudy - Kenya Evangelists" in the memo.
New Finance Director - Anderia LopezWe would like to welcome our newest hire in the administrative part of our church staff, Anderia (pronounced Andria) Lopez! Anderia will serve as our new Finance Director to succeed Trudy Hughes in some of her many roles here at the church. Anderia comes to us from Acton United Methodist in Granbury. She has almost 14 years of experience in similar roles at other churches. Anderia's first official day is May 23. When you are near our office area, please take time to welcome Anderia and wish her well with our First United Methodist Grapevine family.

Organ Pipes To Be Installed!
When the Sanctuary was completed in 2001, the chancel area was designed and built to feature a full pipe organ. The purchase of the pipes was always planned to be funded outside the annual church budget. Faithful donors have given to a "pipe organ fund" since the Sanctuary opening. In an effort to complete this project in time for our church's 150th year celebration, a church family has offered to match any remaining gifts, dollar for dollar. We wish to give you the opportunity to give toward this exciting addition to our worship experience. Donations of any size are welcome. You may simply indicate "Organ Pipes" in the memo of your check, envelope or online gift. Read more...»

Top Need: Compassion Fund
Our top need this week is for donations to the Compassion Fund. These funds are used to assist members of our church who find themselves in financial need. If you would like to give, simply mark "Compassion" in the memo of your check, envelope or online gift.
Kenya Medical Camp
We are in need of donations to help fund the two medical camps that our mission team will assist with when they are in Kenya. If you would like to give toward this effort, mark "Kenya Medical Camp" in the memo of your check, envelope or online gift.
Thrift Shop Needs Winter Clothing!
We know it's time to be thinking of summer, but the volunteers at the Thrift Shop are already looking ahead to fall and winter! We have far less children's winter clothing than we would normally at this time of year. Please go through your closets and help us by donating any children's winter clothing that you won't be needing next fall. We always appreciate your support!
Angel Wings Ministry Would you like to be a part of a team that provides transportation for people who are unable to drive? Angel Wings Ministry works with members that are in need of rides to worship services and/or medical appointments. All you need is a vehicle, a friendly, helpful attitude and the ability to give "light" assistance to persons getting in and out of a vehicle. If you would like to help, contact Barbara Evartt at 817-283-0682.
God Can for the GRACE Food Pantry
Don't forget to grab some extra items when you do your grocery shopping! GRACE is low on mayonnaise, juice boxes, beef stew, cooking oil, evaporated milk, and fruit juice. Click here to view the full list of needs (pdf). If you would like to donate any of these items, please bring your donations to the God Can bins outside the church office or in the Sanctuary Foyer/Atrium.

"Resilience: Getting Up When Face Down in the Dirt"
by Tresia Eaves
Is resilience in our nature or taught to us during our upbringing? My answer would be a resounding "both" as I think it is some nature and some nurture. I just completed Andy Andrews', "The Seven Decisions" and the last of the seven decisions he encourages us to make is to "persist without exception" and that is the focus for this month's article. I'm going to examine this from various perspectives: personal, family, and then as a church. Keep reading...>>>

In the Midst of Miracle Giving
by Dr. Cindy Ryan
On April 24, I told you all in a sermon that as I embrace a new season of life and leave our church staff that I did not want a reception, gifts or plaques with my name on them. I suggested that if you love me (or are even happy that I'm leaving) that you could celebrate by sponsoring to feed one of the 800 GCISD children served by our Weekend Food ministry for the 2016-2017 school year. Today (May 11), I got word that your gifts have now reached $57,76.81 which equals 801 children sponsored! I cannot tell you how deeply honored, touched and excited I am by your generosity. I'm also not gone yet. I still have a month to go. So what if you still want to give? What then? I have a couple of suggestions: Give to one of our other feeding ministries. Weekend Food is short for this school year, they still need $3,500 to finish well. Feed Our Kids, our summer feeding program, needs $3,500 for our Big Week and $4,200 for our four weeks at the Grapevine Village. I've always thought God gives us big dreams and asks us to stretch. Now I can't help thinking what if this miracle isn't over? What if we keeping giving until all our feeding ministries are set for the coming year? P.S. My friend Trudy had the idea of a Love Offering for someone else before I did. I hope you will honor her as well by giving to the Kenya Evangelist project that is dear to her heart.

Gifts Given
Gifts have been given to the Weekend Food ministry in memory of Dr. Kenneth Walgren by: Ron Fiedelman, Kappa Delta Alumnae Chapter of Richardson/Plano, and Kevin & Julie Sisk.
FUMCG / Heritage
This week, our church was "caught caring" when another church in our Conference was in need. University UMC in Fort Worth contacted us earlier in the week because we had sent a message through the district about items from our Heritage Campus that are available to other churches. University UMC endured heavy flooding during recent storms, and was in great need of chairs. Our plan had been to bring the chairs from the Heritage Campus to our main campus. But, the reality is, we already have chairs. In the spirit of CARING, we were able to give the Heritage chairs to this neighboring church in their time of great need!
The Well
The ladies of The Well were caught caring last week, donating almost $1,000 in cash, plus piles of food, for this summer's Feed Our Kids Big Week!
All Those Who Pray
We recently received a note from a woman whose son has been on our prayer list, thanking everyone for praying. Prayer warriors, you have been caught caring!
Dear Friends,
God allows for times in our lives that we are totally dependent on Him to survive. God's grace is so awesome! The only thing we can do is pray. But how powerful prayer is! Prayer is the outpouring of the heart to God. My son, Jason, is alive and getting better every day. He will be going back to work in the middle of May. We are so blessed because each one of you joined together in purposeful prayer for healing of his body. Many prayers have been answered. Jason is a miracle from God. Not only did God heal him, we were surrounded by His love, enveloped in His strength and sustained by His grace because you and others took time to lift us up in prayer and love. God is so good!
With humble thanks,
Lana, Peter, Jason, Vicky, Abigail & Caleb
Confirmation Class & Mentors
