SPRC Update

Last Sunday, members of the Staff/Parish Relations Committee gave an update in worship regarding staff vacancies. If you were not in worship on Sunday, here's what they had to say...

We are in a season of some transition in the life of our church regarding our staff. Here are updates on the positions we need to fill:
  • We have four very well qualified candidates that we are currently interviewing for our Director of Music Ministries position.  Our thanks go to the music search team for their efforts. We want to offer our profound gratitude to Kay Green, Linda Love and Scott Boiles for stepping into the breach while this search is underway.
  • Trudy Hughes, our Business Administrator, is retiring at the end of May.  We have received many applications, and a search team is currently conducting interviews with hopes of hiring a new Business Administrator and Finance Director soon, so that there will be continuity in the transition time.
  • Dr. Cindy Ryan announced a month ago that she will be exiting her pastoral role in June.  A new full-time Associate Pastor has been appointed and will begin work here on July 1. We plan to announce our new associate next week in conjunction with the announcement at his current church.
  • Michael Franklin, our Youth Director, has taken a new position at a church in Arlington. We have a dedicated group beginning to frame the vision for the next leader of our youth.
  • We are very close to adding a new Tween Coordinator in our Family Ministries area.
We are excited about the opportunities that these changes bring.  We are moving forward with Christ and leaning into the new thing that God is doing within our midst. While we are so thankful for, and will greatly miss, our friends that have/are vacating these positions, we pray that these new staff members will bring fresh ideas and energy as we continue to reach out to our community through our church's spirit for mission and involvement.

We ask that you pray for the success of our efforts to find the right team to join all of us in ministry and that our new staff members will add their gifts and graces to all of us dedicated to this church and its mission.

If you have questions as all, please feel free to reach out to any member of the Staff Parish Relations Committee. We appreciate your support and prayers. ...>

Main Street Fest is coming up May 20-22, and we will once again man the parking lots as a fundraiser for youth missions. The Youth Ministry and Boy Scouts will work together to provide volunteers for the 2016 Main Street Fest Parking Lot Fundraiser. Please sign up to volunteer on our Sign-Up Genius. Volunteers will ensure parking spots are available for church activities during the festival, direct attendees to available parking spots, collect payment, adjust barricades and clean up festival trash as needed. Youth will work the upper parking lot area, and Scouts in the lower area. Each 2016 summer mission trip participant or a family member should volunteer to work one or more shifts during this fundraiser. Adult volunteers must be MinistrySafe trained. Questions? Costa Rica Children's Home Quilt Wish List

The Costa Rica mission trip team is excitedly preparing for the upcoming May trip to the Hogar Metodista Children's Home. The children and house moms living at the orphanage are in need of new quilts for the twin beds in each of the rooms. Missionary Lydia Zirkel has identified themes that each of the age groups would enjoy and our team would like to be able to purchase matching quilts for each of the rooms. A $30 donation would provide one twin size quilt for a child or tia. We have collected funds to cover 9 of the 36 quilts. If you would like to give, mark your check "Costa Rica Quilts" and send it to the church office. You may also donate online by designating Costa Rica in the special gift memo. Thank you!

Youth, do you need community service hours for school? You can help put together first-time guest gifts! Contact Katherine Hunter if you'd like to help (katherineh@fumcg.org, 817-481-2559 x130).

We have just a few paintings and bracelets leftover after Sunday. These items are handmade in Latvia and proceeds from their sale are sent right back to Latvia to support their ministries. If you didn't get a chance to purchase a painting on Sunday, stop by the church office to take a look! (NOTE: There was a card left in the Family Life Center... if you bought one and didn't make it home with it, see Melissia in the church office).

From the Spiritual Formation Blog...
Resistance
by Marissa Neil

In one of my Spiritual Formation courses, we discussed "resistance."  We all experience it, but where does it come from?  What drives it? Fear of change? Spiritual warfare? Lack of self-discipline? Fear of failure? Lack of courage? Fear of the unknown? Fear of anything hard or difficult? Lack of control? Lack of trust? Ahh, "lack of trust," "lack of faith." Why does it seem that the things we resist most tend to be the most necessary?

Family Ministries: Director's Corner

by Patty Bandy, Director of Family Ministries

This week I have been focusing on gratitude. I am so grateful for our church, its many ministries, and especially the lay people who rise up to share God's love with our children, youth and our world. We are so blessed by each one of you. In Philippians 1:3-6, Paul says, "I thank my God every time I mention you in my prayers. I'm thankful for all of you every time I pray, and it's always a prayer full of joy. I'm glad because of the way you have been my partners in the ministry of the gospel from the time you first believed it until now. I'm sure about this: the one who started a good work in you will stay with you to complete the job by the day of Christ Jesus."

My prayer is full of joy for each of you. Recently, I have been personally blessed by each of you even more than before. With a hurt foot, you have helped me open doors, get up and down stairs, brought me food and prayed for me. I am so grateful for a congregation that loves our community and each other, and I am so grateful for each of you. "I thank my God for you!!"

Blessings,
Patty
Caught Caring...

Gifts Given
A gift has been given to the Prayer Shawl Ministry in honor of Sharol Cowart by the Connections Class.

Jim Goss, Ray Moyer and Lorenzo Diaz were "caught caring" this week, removing the stained glass windows from the Heritage Campus Sanctuary and preparing them for storage.

If you missed worship last Sunday, you missed our special spotlight on the ministry of the Thrift Shop. The 48 volunteers at the Thrift Shop are "caught caring" five days a week! If you'd like to volunteer, contact Angelia Ozymy (aozymy@verizon.net or 817-442-9722). Check out the video on our YouTube channel:
