This week at First United Methodist Church in Grapevine | March 30, 2016
Communion Sunday, April 3
Rev. John Mollet preaching in English
Rev. Armando Alvarado preaching in Bilingual
Worship at 8:30, 9, 9:45, and 11 AM

Now that we have experienced the Resurrection, what's next? What is it like to be a community of faith that is living "resurrected"?  In this four-week series, we are asked to "Imagine the People of God" that care, share, believe, receive, seek, dream and change. Let's come together to imagine and create better relationships, better family, better church, better world!

This Sunday, Holy Communion will be served in all worship services. Our Communion Offering will go to our Villages ministries. We have a Fiesta coming up for the Grapevine Village and Mission Trips headed to Costa Rica, Kenya and Latvia in May and June. Your gifts will go to support all of these upcoming outreach opportunities. To give, mark "Villages" in the memo of your gift and place it at the altar during communion, place it in the offering plate, or give online at www.firstmethodistgrapevine.org/give.

Understanding the Anger of God - Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, on Monday, April 4. NEW: 2nd Quarter Family Ministries Newsletter (pdf)
NEW: April Youth Calendar (pdf)

This year our church celebrates 150 continuous years as a congregation of the Methodist Church! The date for our First Methodist Grapevine 150th Anniversary Celebration will be October 9, 2016. We hope you will mark your calendars and plan to celebrate with us in a special service and participate in other fun activities. We will worship together in ONE worship service, followed by a catered lunch. From time to time we will be updating you on plans for that special day and other events surrounding this milestone in our church and community, so watch this section of E-News for updates.

150 Years of Great Cooking!
The first item on our agenda is to collect recipes for our sesquicentennial cookbook! We will be collecting your favorite new and old recipes to publish this summer and have available for purchase by our October 9 celebration. We'll also include some old favorites from past church cookbooks and great recipes from our Be Our Guest team! We know we have the best cooks around, so be sure to submit your favorites to share! You may pick up blank recipe forms in the church office or download a printable form (PDF) by April 15. We have been told that some are having trouble with the online form, however the problem is intermittent (and so far unidentifiable), so you may wish to stick with the printable form.
Opportunities to Serve and Give...
Do you have furniture or appliances needing a new home? Furnishing Hope is accepting the following to use in their mission ministry: bunk beds, mattresses/frames (twin, full, queen); chest of drawers, sofa sleepers, end tables and coffee tables; working washers, dryers, and microwaves.  If you would like to donate any of these items, Portable B will be open for drop off from 11 AM to 1 PM on Sunday, April 3,  courtesy of the GIFT Sunday School class.  If you have a question about the suitability of an item or need assistance with pick up, please contact Diane Bishop at 817-239-5298 or dianebishopdbd@gmail.com. Thank you for helping us bless our neighbors in this way.

We have received a batch of handmade cards from Latvia for Spring! These beautiful cards are hand-painted or appliqued, or both. We will be selling the cards in the church office until they are gone, as well as in the foyers on Sunday, April 10. These are perfect for Mother's Day, or just for sending a thinking-of-you note. We also have a limited number of paintings available, including water-color street scenes, flowers and more. All of the proceeds from these cards and paintings go back to Latvia to support ministries and pensioners who are in financial need.

Host Homes Needed
We will be hosting a Bell Choir from Cesis, Latvia, in worship on Sunday, April 10. Host homes are needed for choir members on Saturday and Sunday nights, April 9 and 10. If you can host, please contact Melissia with the number of people you can accommodate (melissiam@fumcg.org).

We only collected 21 items for the GRACE Food Pantry this week, so we'd like to bring the needs to your attention once again. Don't forget to grab some extra items when you do your grocery shopping! GRACE is low on mayonnaise, juice boxes, beef stew, cooking oil, evaporated milk, and fruit juice. Click here to view the full list of needs (pdf). If you would like to donate any of these items, please bring your donations to the God Can bins outside the church office or in the Sanctuary Foyer/Atrium.

FUMC Grapevine will host a booth at Main Street Fest this year! The event is May 20-22, right here in Downtown Grapevine. We'll be promoting awareness of our church and our great ministries and programs. We'll need lots of volunteers, with happy faces and willing spirits! We'll also need sponsors... visit our website for sponsorship opportunities. Grab your friends and get your volunteer groups together, pick your sponsorship and make our first go at a booth a huge hit! Sign up now on Sign-Up Genius. Contact Cathy Morris at cathymorris7209@gmail.com to let her know how you'd like to help.

As you are all aware, East Texas and Louisiana received HEAVY flooding a few weeks ago. UMCOR is almost out of cleaning buckets and they are desperate for more and so is East Texas. Our Conference (Central Texas) will be collecting cleaning buckets to go to FUMC Mansfield beginning immediately. Collections should be taken to the Wesley Mission Center Monday - Friday from 9-5 pm at FUMC Mansfield (777 N. Walnut Creek Dr. in Mansfield). You may also bring buckets on the last day which will be Sunday, April 24, from 3-6 pm. Click here for instructions on making cleaning buckets. Please turn in ONLY $1 per bucket for transportation costs (not the $1.50 UMCOR requires). Please leave a check made out to CTCUMC for all the buckets you bring. This will cover the costs for the truck to take the supplies to Marshall and return home.

More of Utther Finau's story is now posted on the Jesus Calling blog... you can read the story at www.jesuscalling.com/blog.

Remember that we have a shelf in the church office supplied with copies of Jesus Calling for you to give away. Help us spread the word and spread the love by making it your individual ministry to put a book in the hands of someone who needs it.

Opportunities to Grow...
by Fred Rigdon

The Wesleyan Quadrilateral is a method of Christian spiritual discernment and discipline that allows us to hear God speaking to us and let the Holy Spirit guide us in making our choices and decisions. The Quadrilateral is credited to John Wesley, the leader of the Methodist movement in the eighteenth century, although he never called his method the quadrilateral. The name was coined by Albert C. Outler, a twentieth century scholar, to describe Wesley's approach.
