Holy Week

Communion & Foot Washing
Spanish Service - 7 PM Founders Chapel
English Service - 7 PM Sanctuary

On the evening he was betrayed, Jesus "poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples' feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him..." (John 13:5). During the special Maundy Thursday service we will remember Jesus' final act of fellowship and service by celebrating Holy Communion and having the opportunity to participate in the touching act of foot washing....»

Stations of the Cross - 6 PM Leach Hall
Worship Service - 7 PM Founders Chapel

This Good Friday, we invite you to remember a day when Love was crucified, to hear the story told from Jesus' betrayal to the loud thud of the stone rolling over the tomb. It is a noisy story that ends in utter silence. This evening takes place in two parts. First you are invited on a self-guided journey through the Stations of the Cross, a visual journey through Jesus' final hours before his death, starting at 6 PM in Leach Hall. Then at 7 PM we gather as a community to hear this story told in Spanish and English, and sing the hymns of our faith as one candle after another is extinguished to mark the darkness of a world before Resurrection.

Our Easter Offering benefits the World Service Fund. The World Service Fund serves as the financial lifeline to a long list of missions and ministries throughout the United Methodist Church. Through the World Service Fund we support the United Methodist network of missionaries, institutions of higher learning, outreach missions, local church work with children, youth, singles, students, the mentally and physically challenged, adults and senior adults. The needs around us often feel overwhelming. None of us can meet every one. But together, with the help of the World Service Fund, we're sharing God's love with the world.
Still Thinking About Signing Up for the Winds of Change Workshops?
Top 10 Reasons to Say Yes
By Dr. Cindy Ryan
  1. You will gain insight that will help you personally and as a church member as real life continues to change around us.
  2. You will be given real tools that you can use immediately to increase your joy, freedom, faith and to help you honor yourself.
  3. It will not be scary. You will not be forced to share anything you don't want to, confront anyone with your feelings or role play.
  4. This is a gift. Imagine hours of free high quality Christian counseling. Generous donors have made this possible for you.
  5. Your friends will be there. Over 100 people have already pre-registered to be there. You will not be alone. We are thrilled with the response so far.
  6. It has been test driven. Our entire staff has taken the Winds of Change seminar. A smaller staff group has worked weekly with our facilitator, Myrna Ashby, since June 2015. We have benefited from this work and we want that for you.
  7. It helps if you can attend all the sessions or a make-up. But, if not, please don't let that stop you. Some is better than none.
  8. There is childcare. Yes, you will miss your kids but this will make you a better parent, I promise.
  9. There is lunch. Lunch! Every Sunday session. (Donations for lunch accepted).
  10. I will bring a copy of Jesus Calling, given in memory of Amy Wicke, for every attendee to keep for yourself or to give away.

Youth - March Calendar (pdf)

This year our church celebrates 150 continuous years as a congregation of the Methodist Church! The date for our First Methodist Grapevine 150th Anniversary Celebration will be October 9, 2016. We hope you will mark your calendars and plan to celebrate with us in a special service and participate in other fun activities. We will worship together in ONE worship service, followed by a catered lunch. From time to time we will be updating you on plans for that special day and other events surrounding this milestone in our church and community, so watch this section of E-News for updates.

150 Years of Great Cooking!
The first item on our agenda is to collect recipes for our sesquicentennial cookbook! We will be collecting your favorite new and old recipes to publish this summer and have available for purchase by our October 9 celebration. We'll also include some old favorites from past church cookbooks and great recipes from our Be Our Guest team! We know we have the best cooks around, so be sure to submit your favorites to share! You may pick up blank recipe forms in the church office or download a printable form (PDF) by April 15. We have been told that some are having trouble with the online form, however the problem is intermittent (and so far unidentifiable), so you may wish to stick with the printable form.
Opportunities to Serve and Give...
Do you have furniture or appliances needing a new home? Furnishing Hope is accepting the following to use in their mission ministry: bunk beds, mattresses/frames (twin, full, queen); chest of drawers, sofa sleepers, end tables and coffee tables; working washers, dryers, and microwaves.  If you would like to donate any of these items, Portable B will be open for drop off from 11 AM to 1 PM on Sunday, April 3,  courtesy of the GIFT Sunday School class.  If you have a question about the suitability of an item or need assistance with pick up, please contact Diane Bishop at 817-239-5298 or dianebishopdbd@gmail.com. Thank you for helping us bless our neighbors in this way.

Host Homes Needed
We will be hosting a Bell Choir from Cesis, Latvia, in worship on Sunday, April 10. Host homes are needed for choir members on Saturday and Sunday nights, April 9 and 10. If you can host, please contact Melissia with the number of people you can accommodate (melissiam@fumcg.org).

FUMC Grapevine will host a booth at Main Street Fest this year! The event is May 20-22, right here in Downtown Grapevine. We'll be promoting awareness of our church and our great ministries and programs. We'll need lots of volunteers, with happy faces and willing spirits! We'll also need sponsors... visit our website for sponsorship opportunities. Grab your friends and get your volunteer groups together, pick your sponsorship and make our first go at a booth a huge hit! Contact Cathy Morris at cathymorris7209@gmail.com to let her know how you'd like to help.

GRACE is low on mayonnaise, juice boxes, beef stew, cooking oil, evaporated milk, and fruit juice. Click here to view the full list of needs (pdf). Opportunities to Grow...
by Nancy Johnson

The most important work a Christian can do is pray, and we tend to think we should automatically know how to pray or that prayer should come naturally. A group of us have been studying the book by Teresa A. Blythe, 50 Ways To Pray, which has been helpful and insightful. One challenge experienced by many Christians during their time of prayer is quieting our own thoughts which may lead to distractions. I frequently utilize a breath prayer along with visual imagery to help my focus during my quiet times with God. Keep reading...

Costa Rica Mission Trip
by Rev. Armando Alvarado

Our experience in Costa Rica was one of the most interesting trips ever! We were able to see how God, through the Holy Spirit, was reaching and moving within our group and the community in Las Juntas, Quiriman and San Jose. The relationships that we built and reinforced by sharing God's love only strengthened the promise of God's Kingdom. It was evident by seeing the diversity and the challenges of language barriers, that God was with us. Every smile and hug that was given, God was there! We could sense the Love of Christ. Thank you for all the prayers and gifts in order to make this happen!
"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will send you out to fish for people." Matthew 4:19
