This week at First United Methodist Church in Grapevine | February 10, 2016
Today is Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday Worship is this evening at 7 PM in the Sanctuary. This will be a Bilingual worship service with special music by the Bilingual Praise Team, the Combined Choirs, and Grace Notes. Rev. Jenn Pick and Rev. Armando Alvarado will share a special meditation as we go into this season of reflection. For those who are unable to attend, the service will be broadcast on our live feed at www.firstmethodistgrapevine.org/live.

Remember that UMW will be serving chicken spaghetti supper from 5:30 to 6:45 PM in the Family Life Center. The cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children (pay at the door), and all proceeds go to missions.

Don't forget to begin your daily Lenten devotionals, a practice in Lectio Divina led by Rev. Jenn Pick. Jenn has written an introduction to the season of Lent, which is posted along with the first day's devotional on our 15 and 15 devotional blog.
The First Sunday of Lent, February 14
Rev. Armando Alvarado preaching in English
Pastor Julio Mazara and Colby Mowery preaching in Bilingual

From the tempter asking Jesus to turn stones into bread in his wilderness wandering to the stone of the empty tomb being rolled away, the Lenten landscape is full of stones. Ecclesiastes says that there is a time for everything including a time to gather and scatter stones. If we picture everything that is keeping us from God like a stone in our path, we can begin a clearing season of our souls. This year for the 40 days of Lent, you are invited upon a soulful journey of stones.
Also This Sunday...

"What's Next" Gatherings
Come hear updates and information about "What's Next" for our church by participating in a special set of gatherings hosted by our Senior Pastor John Mollet. John periodically leads these meetings in order to share new information, update us on on-going projects and answer any questions you might have. We will be hearing updates about the sale of properties, staffing plans, and learn about the "Winds of Change" initiative. We hope to see you at one of the meetings and look forward to the wonderful future into which God is leading us! Two of the opportunities will be during the Serendipity Bible Study, led each week by Kenda Diehm. All are invited to join in any of the gatherings. The full schedule is:

February 21 - 4 PM in Leach Hall
February 24 - 6 PM in Leach Hall (Serendipity Bible Study)
February 25 - 9:30 AM in Leach Hall (Serendipity Bible Study)

Update on Jesus Calling Projects
By Dr. Cindy Ryan

It has been a couple of months since I updated the congregation on our Jesus Calling Projects. As you may remember, Harper Collins Publishing House sent a film crew to our church in early December to capture our church's story in relation to this devotional book. They were here for two days filming five stories about our church. The first phase of our church's story launched this week in the form of an audio podcast and a blog on the Jesus Calling website. This is the first "chapter" of a total of five. This one features Pat Laster and myself and previews Donna and Steve Rozenburg's story. Every two weeks or so a new "chapter" of our church's story will go live via audio podcast and blog. Keep reading...

One practice that I use to deepen and enrich my relationship with God is the Prayer of Examen, in which I look for God's constant presence in my life. I take time at the end of each day to prayerfully examine the events of the day to detect His presence in those events and to discern His direction for me. As I practice this discipline, I come to see more clearly God's presence and gain a deeper understanding of His purpose in my life.

Caught Caring...

by Julie Croft

Dain was caught caring Sunday, helping the Stephen Ministry guest speaker, Christine Rodriguez from Valley Hope, to get her presentation working on her computer and our church visual equipment. He worked extra hard to get it set up and working for her to present to us. We appreciate his caring spirit!!!!
