This week at First United Methodist Church in Grapevine | February 3, 2016
Sunday, February 7
Rev. John Mollet (English) | Rev. Armando Alvarado (Bilingual)

As we continue in a new year and a renewed energy toward spiritual formation, our pastors are sharing some real-life "Holy Habits" that have helped transform their faith. This week's final topic is "Discernment."

This Sunday is also Communion Sunday. We will serve Holy Communion in all worship services. The Communion Offering will go to our Compassion and Benevolence Funds. The Compassion Fund goes to help those in our church who find themselves in financial need. The Benevolence Fund goes to help those outside our church family.
Also This Sunday...

The Kenya Mission Team will be selling jewelry and soapstone decorative items in the Foyer, Atrium and FLC on Sunday, February 7. These items are handmade by a group of women in Kenya who are working toward self-sufficiency. You will find great gifts for your Valentine, so be sure you stop by!

A Note From Melissa Howell
After a long period of prayer I have made the difficult decision to resign my position as Tweens/Early Teens Director. I have never seen another church that puts into action the missional Spirit of God the way that this church does. My family has been so blessed to be a part of this church. Many have asked where I am going. I am planning and taking some time to sit and listen for God's voice before I move forward. God is good and has great things in store.

We appreciate Melissa's contribution to our ministries! We hope you will lift her in prayer as she continues her seminary work, internship and future in ministry. We will be looking for a new Tweens/Early Teens Director moving forward. Monica Vickery, who serves as Nursery Director, will take on the tween and early teens ministries on an interim basis until a permanent replacement is found. Monica has a background in working with all ages, so we know she will be great!

Opportunities to Serve and Give...
Our top need for this week is gas cards in the amount of $25. These cards are vital for helping people who just need a little boost to get to payday. If you would like to give, you may drop cards in the offering plate or bring them by the church office.

Ken Diehm
The Grapevine Rotary Club has created an annual award in memory of Ken Diehm, former pastor of FUMC Grapevine. The Rotary Club is now taking nominations for this award. The recipient will be someone giving unusual assistance to others in an unselfish manner, expecting nothing in return. Nomination forms are available ONLINE, in the brochure racks in the foyer of each worship space and in the church office. Nomination forms can be turned in to the church office. The deadline for receiving nominations is noon on February 17....>

Opportunities to Grow...

We have three new studies starting soon... be sure you plan on participating!
by Marissa Neil
Last year, our congregation was challenged to choose a word to focus on for the year. My word for last year was "ALL." Mark 12:30: "Love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength." To give God my ALL and to let God be my ALL. That was my challenge and my lesson for the year. The first half of the year was to commit to God with my ALL. To not be dualistic. To not be of two worlds. To not pretend to be of God, when really I was still of the world. To be willing to let go of the world's lies and to trust God's promises.

Lenten Devotional
Remember that Lent starts with Ash Wednesday, which is next Wednesday, February 10. Over the season of Lent, our 15 and 15 devotionals will be transformed into a spiritual practice of Lectio Divina. Rev. Jenn Pick will guide your daily prayer, scripture reading and contemplation time. Keep up with it all on the 15 and 15 blog.

This year our church celebrates 150 continuous years as a congregation of the Methodist Church! The date for our First Methodist Grapevine 150th Anniversary Celebration will be October 9, 2016. We hope you will mark your calendars and plan to celebrate with us in a special service and participate in other fun activities. We will worship together in ONE worship service, followed by a catered lunch. From time to time we will be updating you on plans for that special day and other events surrounding this milestone in our church and community, so watch this section of E-News for updates.

150 Years of Great Cooking!
The first item on our agenda is to collect recipes for our sesquicentennial cookbook! We will be collecting your favorite new and old recipes to publish this summer and have available for purchase by our October 9 celebration. We'll also include some old favorites from past church cookbooks and great recipes from our Be Our Guest team! We know we have the best cooks around, so be sure to submit your favorites to share! You may pick up blank recipe forms in the church office, download a printable form (PDF), or fill out the online form by April 15.
