A Note From Trudy Hughes
About a year ago, Allan and I started talking about retirement in the present tense instead of future tense. He decided his retirement date would be March 31, 2016. As we talked, we realized that we want the same things in retirement : travel, serving God and time to enjoy our family and our hobbies. Here was the kicker... Allan was ready to do those things NOW, with travel at the top of his list! So, I began thinking of ways I could do that without full retirement. Why? Because I love my job and our church! But Allan was ready to set out without me, and that didn't set well with me! So, after much prayer, more than a little angst, and lots of "what ifs," I have made the decision to retire on May 31, 2016. Our first trip will begin June 3. We are driving to Alaska and will be gone for four months! Plans are to be back in time for our church's 150th Celebration in October! Read the full story...

Opportunities to Serve and Give...
Top Needs: Gas Cards and Compassion Funds
Our top needs for this week are gas cards in the amount of $25, and funds for our Compassion Fund. Unlike the Benevolence Fund, which is used to help people outside the church, donations to the Compassion Fund go to help members of our congregation who find themselves in financial need. If you would like to give, please indicate "Compassion Fund" in the memo of your check or online gift.
Office Volunteers Needed We have opportunities for someone who would like to volunteer in the church office on Tuesday mornings from 9 AM to noon or Friday afternoons from 1 to 5 PM. Duties include greeting visitors, answering phones, light filing, etc. Benefits include working with a fun, friendly staff and keeping up to date on church happenings! Ministry Safe Training is required. Contact Renee Tielkemeier at reneet@fumcg.org or 817-481-2559 x121 for more details.
Sunday School Buddies Needed
We are happy to say that our SS Buddies ministry, is growing! We are in need of more volunteers to assist school age special abilities children during 9:45 AM Sunday School. Volunteers serve one Sunday a month, the same week each month. During this hour, you are there to be an extra pair of eyes for the parent, assist with tasks if needed (cutting, gluing, etc.) and just enjoy the time with the child. Our immediate need is for two people to be assigned the 2nd week of the month starting in February. If you would like to be a substitute only, there is also a place for you! If you would like to serve, please contact Joyce King at fumcdt@gmail.com. Read more about our Helping Hands ministries at www.firstmethodistgrapevine.org/helpinghands.
God Can for the GRACE Food Pantry
GRACE is low on several standard stock items, including juice boxes, snacks, canned soup/stew, condensed milk, ramen noodles, canned fruit, condiments and toothpaste. Click here to view the full list (pdf). If you would like to donate any of these items, please bring your donations to the God Can bins outside the church office or in the Sanctuary Foyer/Atrium.

Spiritual Journaling
Dr. Cindy Ryan has written a follow-up blog post about Spiritual Journaling. If you missed Sunday, or would like to read more thoughts from Cindy, you can read her blog at www.drcindyryanblog.com.
15 & 15 Daily Devotional Make a new commitment to daily reading and prayer this year! Spend 15 minutes in prayer and 15 minutes reading scripture each day. Get a jumpstart with our daily devotionals, written by the pastors to correspond with the previous Sunday's sermon, on the 15 and 15 blog. Holy Habits: Breath Prayers by Fred Rigdon Breath prayers, sometimes called prayers of the heart, are simple prayers, usually of fewer than eight syllables, that can be repeated to the rhythm of our breathing. They can be said silently or aloud and can be repeated over and over throughout the day. Since they are short and simple prayers, they can help us to follow Paul's command to "pray without ceasing" and to be aware of God's presence throughout the day, even while we are engaged in other activities.
