Holiday Schedule Please note that the church office will be closed on Friday, January 1, for New Year's Day. The Thrift Shop will be closed December 31-January 2. You may still leave donations in the Thrift Shop drop box during this time.
Year-End Giving
As we get ready to bid farewell to 2015, we'd like to remind you that your year-end giving and commitments for 2016 make a HUGE difference in the ministry of the church. At this point, we need $77,000 to finish paying our apportionments.
If you are behind on your 2015 pledge and would like to catch up... or if you wish to give additional gifts... either will help us finish paying our apportionments and end the year in the black. We'll be here in the church office to receive your 2015 donations through 5:30 PM on Thursday, December 31. Below are some useful links for 2015 year-end giving and planning for 2016.
- 2015 Giving - Use this link for your last-minute gifts for 2015.
- 2016 Commitment - Use this link to make your commitment to "Give 150 for the Next 150" in 2016.
- 2016 Giving - Use this link to schedule your online giving for 2016. The link is active now, but gifts given through this link will go to 2016 giving. We deeply appreciate your generosity in 2015, and look forward to a great year of ministry in 2016!
If you have any questions about giving to the church and its ministries, please contact Business Administrator Trudy Hughes (trudyh@fumcg.org or 817-481-2559 x150).

Church News
Worship Arts
We would like to thank our worship leadership team for stepping in and providing direction and guidance while we are searching for our next Director of Worship Arts. Special thanks goes to Kay Green, Scott Boiles, Linda Love and Jeanice Wheelock for their leadership in this interim period. We would also like to welcome our new church accompanist, Barbara Lee. She will be playing for the first time this Sunday at the 8:30 AM worship service. Please keep our search in your prayers, as well as all of those involved with music ministries. We hope to have our new director on board around Easter (which comes early this year - March 27).
Our One Word for 2016 We have decided to extend "caring" as our one word for 2016. After all, we haven't stopped caring for those within and outside our community! In fact, as our Compass Team stated last year when they recommended "caring" to be our one word, it is a part of the DNA of our congregation. Also, what better word could we possibly select for our 150th anniversary year? So, keep those "Get Caught Caring" t-shirts clean and ready to wear, because CARING IS STILL OUR ONE WORD!
NOTE: We are still taking orders for t-shirts and will place our next order as soon as we have enough for a minimum order. Place your order on Check-In or email Melissia at melissiam@fumcg.org. The names of each of our new leaders for 2016 are now posted on our website. The primary leadership teams and committees (like Administrative Board, Council on Ministries, Finance Committee, etc.) are listed by name at www.firstmethodistgrapevine.org/leaders. The title of each leadership group links to a full description of that committee's responsibilities. If you have questions about church leadership, please contact Rev. John Mollet ( johnm@fumcg.org). |

Opportunities to Serve and Give...
Local Disaster Relief
After last weekend's storms, there are many families in need of assistance rebuilding their lives. First United Methodist Church in Garland is working to meet these needs, and has posted information about how you can help on their website. Please visit www.fumcgarland.org for details.
Sunday School Need
Starting in January, we will need 2 first grade and 2 third grade teachers to teach twice a month. If you would like to help, please contact Children's Director Amy Gravitt at amyg@fumcg.org or Linda McClure at lindam@fumcg.org.
Share Your Story
We need your help in seeking out stories about how our Villages have touched lives! When we fall in love with the people we meet in our Villages, it makes missions more about the relationship and less about the good deeds. We've been asking you all to share examples of how you have experienced this in "real life." If you haven't had a chance to share your story, or you know someone who has a good story that needs to be told, please go to our website at firstmethodistgrapevine.org/mission-survey to let us hear from you!
God Can for the GRACE Food Pantry
Thanks for your generous donations! As we come out of the holiday season, GRACE is low on several standard stock items, including juice boxes, snacks, canned soup/stew, condensed milk, ramen noodles, canned fruit, condiments and toothpaste. Click here to view the full list (pdf). If you would like to donate any of these items, please bring your donations to the God Can bins outside the church office or in the Sanctuary Foyer/Atrium.
Thrift Shop Schedule
Note that the Thrift Shop will be closed December 31-January 2. You may still drop donations in the drop box outside the Thrift Shop during closed hours.

A Prayer Time Testimony by Annette Sowell I walked into the prayer chapel - into the anteroom and looked, really looked, at the wonderful art work and religious symbols there. I moved into the prayer wall room, turned on a lamp, checked the air conditioning, took a deep and relaxing breath. I moved into the prayer room, turned on another lamp, turned on the CD player, turned on the forever candle, and took another deep and relaxing breath. My soul tasted peace. Keep reading...
