Holy Vessels: Brokenness and Wholeness
Each of us is created to be a precious vessel of God's love. Sometimes, we experience hurt or circumstances that bring a sense of brokenness into our lives. One of our goals as a church is to help individuals and families to find wholeness in the midst of this brokenness. This week we continue our series of sermons with Rev. Jenn Pick speaking. More about worship...

Give 150 for the Next 150
If you are connected to social media, you may have noticed that we have been posting daily posts about things we are thankful for on Facebook and Twitter. This is one of the ways we are focusing on how blessed we have been as we move into our 150th year of ministry at First Methodist Grapevine. We started our 150 days right after Commitment Sunday for our "Give 150 for the Next 150" campaign, and we will wrap up right before Easter. It's not too late to commit yourself to prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness in 2016. You may submit your commitment online, place your commitment card in the offering plate, or send/bring it to the church office. Additional cards are available in the pews and in the church office. Read more...»

As for our goals, here's where we stand at this point: 240 pledges, totaling $1,263,119, with 160 step-ups and 97 committed to auto-debit.

Nursery Need
The Nursery Ministry is in need of evacuation cribs for our baby classrooms. These are special types of cribs that can hold several small children and be wheeled out of the building in case of emergency. We have been blessed with lots of new babies in our church family, and while we hope to never need them, these new cribs will provide safe transport for them should we need to leave the building quickly. If you are able to give a contribution toward the purchase of the cribs, please mark "Nursery" in the memo of your check or online gift. Questions? Contact Nursery Director Monica Vickery at monicav@fumcg.org or 817-481-2559 x145.

I heard a fantastic homily, while on retreat last June, on Jesus' words: "Ask and you will receive. Seek and you will find. Knock and the door will be opened to you." Most homiletic explanations of why we ask God for things I find to be confusing. But this preacher nailed it. He made some stunning points that I tried to capture later in my journal. As is my custom, I took the summary notes from the homily and synthesized them with my own prayerful reflection. Keep reading...
Caught Caring

Men's Bible Study
Seven men from the Thursday Morning Men's Bible Study were caught caring by raising $1,220 in a day to fill a need at Grapevine Middle School for student athletes. They provided 20 volleyball and football players team meals for a season. The cost of the team meals was $55 per player and there were 20 kids that were bringing sack lunches because their families could not afford the extra expense. These guys didn't just provide meals, they also provided the ability for these athletes to feel like part of the team, and that is priceless.

We had a great time at the CAREibbean Cruise Gala last Saturday! A special thanks to all of the volunteers who made this great event possible, to the Gala Committee for their year-long hard work, and to all of you who attended and gave so generously. This year we raised approximately $61,000 for our beneficiaries! Great job!

John Erickson walked to church last Sunday, raising $2,700 for Kenya! When members of First UMC Grapevine started their visits to our village in Kenya, they often talked about the people who walked to church every week. Most of them traveled many miles, yet they never seemed to be tired or grumpy about their journey. As John approached his 73rd birthday, he remembered these stories about our friends in Kenya and decided that as his birthday came on a Sunday this year, he would walk to church, 10.8 miles from their home in Keller, to honor our brothers and sisters in Kenya and raise funds for our village in Kenya. Keep reading...

We never know when we will have an opportunity to serve, often it's unexpected and unplanned. With a possible move in the future for the church Thrift Shop, we had an opportunity to receive a lot of much needed, good quality shelving that required a quick response to the offer. It may not have been how they planned to spend the Columbus Day holiday on October 12th, but when asked, Jill & Ed Lakey and Kim & Ed Crater did not hesitate to come help break down, load and transfer all the shelving donated by the Tuesday Morning store in Southlake. On one of our trips to unload, FUMCG facilities team member, Donnie Johnson, saw what we were doing and immediately offered his help, even though it was his day off. I could not begin to thank these folks for giving of their time and hard work but I know they did it because they are caring people, always eager to help others.

We would like to thank everyone who gave items to fill the care packages for our troops! Last Sunday we were able to pack 21 boxes to send to our troops in Afghanistan.
