"All in the Family"
This Sunday, September 6, our pastors continue the sermon series, "All in the Family," with a message by Rev. John Mollet on "Dinner Time & Thankfulness." This series takes us through a day in the life of the Family of God. We all have rituals throughout each day that can be used to point us to God and help us grow in faith. Each week of this six-week series, our pastors will guide us through a holy part of each day and give us tools to help us grow - individually and as families - into a closer connection with God. Each Sunday, you will come away with another item for your toolbox of practical ways you can incorporate your faith into your daily life.
  • 8:30 AM - Traditional Worship in Founders Chapel
  • 9:00 AM - Contemporary Praise & Worship in the Family Life Center
  • 9:45 AM - Traditional Worship in the Sanctuary
  • 11:00 AM - Blended Worship in the Sanctuary
  • 11:00 AM - Bilingual Worship in Founders Chapel
Communion Sunday
This Sunday is Communion Sunday. Holy Communion will be served at all services, and our communion offering will go to the Benevolence Fund. The Benevolence Fund provides financial relief to individuals and families in our area who find themselves in need of assistance with rent and utilities. We make every effort to help these families each Tuesday and Thursday, as long as we have funds. To give, simply mark "Benevolence" in the memo of your check and bring it with you to the altar during communion. You may also give online at www.firstmethodistgrapevine.org/give.

Campus Angels
As our students head back to school, it's time to sign up for Campus Angels! The Campus Angels Ministry keeps college students connected with the church while they are away at school. We need adult volunteers (Campus Angels) who will be assigned a college student. You will send the college student notes and small care packages monthly letting them know that their church family is praying for their success and safety. If you are a college student (or know of one) who needs a Campus Angel, we ask that you provide us a little information in order to match you up. Both Campus Angels and Students can sign up online or on the Check-In insert in Sunday's bulletin. If you participated in this ministry last year, please resubmit for this school year. Questions? Contact Jenna Rosenbaum (jenna.rosenbaum@gmail.com).

Website Refresh
As we mentioned earlier this summer, we are going through a refresh of our website. We are in a transition period this week, so please bear with us. Our hope is that the changes we make will help simplify site navigation and make it friendlier for visitors and members alike. We are also making changes that allow the site to appear properly on mobile devices. If you have trouble finding something, we encourage you to use the site's search feature. If you find a link that doesn't work, a page that needs attention, or have other questions, please contact Melissia (melissiam@fumcg.org).

Grapefest Opportunities
Grapefest is coming up September 17-20. We have two opportunities for you to serve, that will also help support our ministries:
  1. Volunteer at the Gates: Our new Mariachi Christian Praise Band is trying to raise funds for instruments. They have been presented an opportunity to do so by volunteering to man one of the gates during Grapefest. Gate training is Thursday, September 3, at 7 PM at the Palace Theater on Main Street. If you are interested in donating a few hours of your time, please contact Joe Krimm at 817-706-0993.
  2. Volunteer in the Church Parking Lots: This year the Youth are responsible for two days -- Friday and Sunday (9/18 and 9/20). The Costa Rica Mission group will be in charge on Thursday and Saturday (9/17 and 9/19). All four days, we are in charge of the top lot. There are 22 slots on Friday that need to be filled and 18 on Sunday. While it is two weeks away, it would help us out for you to sign up as soon as possible so that we can more accurately assess the manpower still needed. Click here to sign up on SignUp Genius.
Council on Ministries
The minutes from the last Council on Ministries meeting are now available on our website at www.firstmethodistgrapevine.org/comblog. The next COM meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 22, at 6:30 PM in Room 2007.

Vast Update
We are well into our first week at VAST (Valuable After School Time). It has been such a blessing to have children on our campus again. God is so good. We have 44 children registered and have many more that would like to come, but we need volunteers. Please consider being a VAST counselor (volunteer). The more volunteers we have, the more children we can serve. After just a few days you can tell that the children are happy, having fun and want to come back! You can already hear them asking the volunteers, "When are you coming back?"

What does it take to be a volunteer? It takes a willingness to commit to one day a week from 3-6 PM for six weeks. Six weeks gives you the chance to see if this is a good fit for you. Many of our volunteers experienced that it only took one day to realize they were ready to commit. It takes the ability to show love to a child, help with homework, be a listening ear and be willing to make a commitment to be a consistent presence in a child's life. This doesn't mean you can't miss or go on vacation! It just means you will make your one day a week a priority.

The number of children we serve is only limited by the number of volunteers we have. Give it a try for six weeks and see what you think, you might end up falling in love! Contact Debbie Price at debbiep@fumcg.org to volunteer.

Community Clean-Up / Fall Into Missions
In lieu of our one-Saturday Fall into Missions this year, we are taking part in a community-wide effort to clean up Lake Grapevine after the spring flooding. The first Keep Grapevine Beautiful clean-up day is set for Saturday, September 12, from 8:00 AM to noon (weather permitting). The City will decide what area will be the focus of clean-up closer to that time, and we'll let you know. Save the date, and sign up on the Check-In, online, or by contacting Joe or Linda Krimm (817-430-4286, jkrimm6@mac.com) or Ed Crater (edcrater@gmail.com). Visit our website for more details about the clean-up.

Be Our Guest
Be Our Guest is our monthly neighborhood meal where we feed anyone who wants to come to a heartwarming, family-style meal. We are in need of additional volunteers to serve as table hosts and eat with our guests, as well as volunteers who will serve the meal. The next Be Our Guest is on September 15, but you can sign up for any of the upcoming BOG dates using our Sign-Up Genius form. Volunteers are asked to be at the Family Life Center at 5:30 PM, and the meal is from 6 to 7 PM. Questions? Contact Sandra Nasr at bogvolunteers@gmail.com.

Changing Lenses, Changing Lives
Church member Jennifer Wynne would like to share a new opportunity for you to help children in Kenya. Jennifer writes...
As many of you may recall, last summer I traveled to Kenya with FUMC Grapevine and taught photography to about 30 AIDS orphans. They took my digital cameras into their homes and documented their living conditions. To help meet their needs alongside FUMC Grapevine, I started a 501c3 corporation called Changing Lenses, Changing Lives. On September 23, I am returning to Kenya to deliver food, sanitary supplies, textbooks and solar lamps. You can be a part of this ministry by helping provide funding for supplies. So far I have raised almost $6,000 for the trip, but another $2,000 is needed to purchase the minimum supplies. Just $15 feeds an entire school of 215 children for a day, $10 buys a menstrual cup that will last a girl 10 YEARS and keep her in school, and $5 buys a textbook. No donation is too small. If you are on Facebook, you can follow my Facebook page to see your money at work during my visit. To donate, visit our page at changinglenseschanginglives.org/donate, or you can give your check or cash to Trudy Hughes. Thanks for your prayers and assistance!

God Can Needs
Don't forget to pick up a few extra items when you do your grocery shopping! The GRACE Food Pantry has recently updated their needs list. They are currently low on or out of the following items: juice boxes, snacks, canned soup, condensed milk, ramen noodles, canned fruit, dry beans, evaporated milk, vienna sausages, toothpaste, diapers (size 4,5,6), toilet paper, tissues, hygiene items.  Click here for GRACE's full updated list of needs (pdf). Please bring your donations to the God Can bins outside the church office or in the Sanctuary Foyer/Atrium.

More Fall Bible Studies and Spiritual Formation Groups

We have a great variety of groups and studies gearing up for the fall. Please visit our website for more information about these upcoming groups (listed in order by the date they begin):

Spiritual Formation
Loving God Unto Distraction
by Dr. Tom Neal from "Word On Fire" Blog

A couple of weeks ago was the feast of the twelfth century Cistercian mystic, St. Bernard of Clairvaux, who stands as one of the few saints in Church history to have a papal encyclical written about him. The pope declared Bernard doctor mellifluus, the honey-sweet doctor, for his unparalleled eloquence. Bernard was an exceptionally influential author, a persuasive negotiator, and a steely-willed reformer. His massive commentary on the biblical Song of Songs stands among the greatest works of spiritual and exegetical literature in the medieval western Christian tradition. Keep reading...
