Sunday, August 30
Worship at 8:30, 9:00, 9:45, 11:00 AM | Sunday School at 9:45 AM

"All in the Family"
This Sunday, August 30, our pastors continue our sermon series, "All in the Family," with a message by Rev. Jenn Pick on "Bathtime & Forgiveness." This series takes us through a day in the life of the Family of God. We all have rituals throughout each day that can be used to point us to God and help us grow in faith. Each week of this six-week series, our pastors will guide us through a holy part of each day and give us tools to help us grow - individually and as families - into a closer connection with God. Each Sunday, you will come away with another item for your toolbox of practical ways you can incorporate your faith into your daily life.
  • 8:30 AM - Traditional Worship in Founders Chapel
  • 9:00 AM - Contemporary Praise & Worship in the Family Life Center
  • 9:45 AM - Traditional Worship in the Sanctuary
  • 11:00 AM - Blended Worship in the Sanctuary
  • 11:00 AM - Bilingual Worship in Founders Chapel

David Platt's Last Sunday
We recently announced in worship that this Sunday, August 30, is David Platt's final Sunday to lead us in worship from the piano. We have been greatly blessed by David and Pam's talents over the past few years. We will miss David's leadership and expertise with the Chancel Orchestra and Grace Notes, as well as his beautiful style on the piano. There will be a reception for David and Pam this evening (Wednesday, August 26) at 7 PM in Leach Hall. If you would like to give toward a going-away gift for David and Pam, please mark "Music - Designated" in the memo of your check or online gift. There will be a journal available for you to sign your thank-you's to him at the reception and following the worship services this Sunday morning.

Campus Angels
As our students head back to school, it's time to sign up for Campus Angels! The Campus Angels Ministry keeps college students connected with the church while they are away at school. We need adult volunteers (Campus Angels) who will be assigned a college student. You will send the college student notes and small care packages monthly letting them know that their church family is praying for their success and safety. If you are a college student (or know of one) who needs a Campus Angel, we ask that you provide us a little information in order to match you up. Both Campus Angels and Students can sign up online or on the Check-In insert in Sunday's bulletin. If you participated in this ministry last year, please resubmit for this school year. Questions? Contact Jenna Rosenbaum (jenna.rosenbaum@gmail.com).

Changing Lenses, Changing Lives
Church member Jennifer Wynne would like to share a new opportunity for you to help children in Kenya. Jennifer writes...
As many of you may recall, last summer I traveled to Kenya with FUMC Grapevine and taught photography to about 30 AIDS orphans. They took my digital cameras into their homes and documented their living conditions. To help meet their needs alongside FUMC Grapevine I started a 501c3 corporation called Changing Lenses, Changing Lives. On September 23, I am returning to Kenya to deliver food, sanitary supplies, textbooks and solar lamps. You can be a part of this ministry by helping provide funding for supplies. So far I have raised almost $6,000 for the trip, but another $2,000 is needed to purchase the minimum supplies. Just $15 feeds an entire school of 215 children for a day, $10 buys a menstrual cup that will last a girl 10 YEARS and keep her in school, and $5 buys a textbook. No donation is too small. If you are on Facebook, you can follow my Facebook page to see your money at work during my visit. To donate, visit our page at  www.changinglenseschanginglives.org/donate, or you can give your check or cash to Trudy Hughes. Thanks for your prayers and assistance!

God Can Needs
We collected 32 items for God Can this week. Don't forget to pick up a few extra items when you do your grocery shopping! The GRACE Food Pantry has recently updated their needs list. They are currently low on or out of the following items: juice boxes, snacks, canned soup, condensed milk, ramen noodles, canned fruit, dry beans, evaporated milk, vienna sausages, toothpaste, diapers (size 4,5,6), toilet paper, tissues, hygiene items.  Click here for GRACE's full updated list of needs (pdf). Please bring your donations to the God Can bins outside the church office or in the Sanctuary Foyer/Atrium.

More Fall Bible Studies and Spiritual Formation Groups

We have a great variety of groups and studies gearing up for the fall. Please visit our website for more information about these upcoming groups (listed in order by the date they begin):

Spiritual Formation
What if God Were in Charge of Your Calendar?
by Fred Rigdon

In his book, Simplify, the author Bill Hybels, the founding and senior pastor of Willow Creek Community Church, says that too many of us have depleted spiritual "energy buckets" because we are overscheduled, exhausted, and overwhelmed. This spiritual depletion causes us to live our lives in negative and self-destructive ways that damage ourselves and those around us. We let distractions get in the way of our relationship with God and put our efforts in the wrong places. Too often, we complicate our lives by acquiring more than we need, whether material goods, activities, or relationships, so we spend our lives doing things that keep us busy but don't really matter. Hispanic Ministries Institute
Equipping People for Diverse Ministries

FUMC Grapevine is starting a new venture this fall called the Hispanic Ministries Institute. This program invites church leaders from all over the area to come learn more about the spiritual disciplines of prayer, worship and study in the Wesleyan tradition,
evangelizing the mission field, preaching, teaching, discipleship, mentoring and much more. HMI will focus primarily on how leaders can be developed in ministries that will attract diverse peoples to the message of the church. The HMI will use leadership training, outreach ministries and an annual Hispanic Ministry Conference to achieve these goals. Read more about HMI on our website at www.firstmethodistgrapevine.org/hmi.

The gifts he gave were that some would be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ. - Ephesians 4:11-14 (NRSV)
Leadership Training
Our first Leadership Training of the Hispanic Ministries Institute is coming up Saturday, August 29, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM (Rooms 2007,2008, 2010). This training prepares and empowers you to do God's work. It will equip you to gain the knowledge, skills, and abilities to lead different ministries, including small faith groups. Our vision is to work together as God's instruments bringing hope to people in the name of Jesus Christ. Experience and Share God's Love today and tomorrow. To sign up, contact Rev. Armando Alvarado ( armandoa@fumcg.org or 817-481-2559 x122).

Thanks for helping my girls feel more secure this morning!!"

Caught Caring in Costa Rica
Your gifts to the Costa Rica Village have helped provide air conditioning for the children's rooms for spiritual formation, and paint for the front of the church. Pastor Roberto sends the following note along with the pictures:

Hello brothers and sisters in Christ:
I hope you are well and your families and congregation, also. Our region, is taking a very strong drought (it hasn't rained enough).  Livestock and agriculture are still very affected. We are praying, and I ask for your prayers that the Lord does not enable people to have potable water supply problems.

Part of the problem was that the children of the church had difficulty in having their Sunday school classes because of the intense heat, and the extended summer. So the Church made efforts and bought two air conditioners in their classes. Now they are enjoying a good temperature. Also we painted the front of the building and has been very nice.

Thanks to the Lord the attendance rose and we have increased the time of service most Sundays.

On the other hand we are working hard as Superintendent of the Churches of the Peninsula.

Several groups came to work in the Church of Nicoya, which are very advanced in their projects.

The Church of Santa Cruz, has also received groups in mission and the Pastoral house has almost been finished. Also they have promised of help to build new classes for Sunday school and health services.

The Church of Bethlehem, this year has not received aid (a church supports them with VIM every two years) we hope that the next year may receive aid for fixing up the house pastoral and build classrooms for children.

The Church of Quiriman, in the month of June, with the VIM group of North Carolina, had enough funds for the floor and a few rows of block, for the new classrooms of the children. The congregation is highly motivated, and to the extent of their possibilities think gradually buying blocks for the ongoing project in the construction of the classrooms.

I ask for your prayers also for the Lord to give me health, wisdom and grace to perform the work for the Kingdom of God and for the honor and glory of the Heavenly Father.

In the family, thanks to the Lord all is well and with have new news, our eldest daughter, who already has two children, is once again pregnant.

Our daughter and her boyfriend, Hugo, have announced that very soon they are going to have their marriage. So this news has made us very happy and excited.

I look forward to hearing from you.

In peace and love of Christ,
Pastor Roberto
