Worship Arts will present a powerful and inspiring musical celebration for the day called "With Freedom's Holy Light." We will not have Sunday School this Sunday.
The Fellowship Committee is hosting an All-American Hot Dog Lunch immediately following worship. Here's a rough schedule of the activities:
- 11 AM - Food will be ready! All food will be provided by the church, although donations are always welcome to help offset the cost. No reservations are required, so invite your friends to join us for a wonderful morning of worship followed by good, old-fashioned fellowship!
- Any time - Kids can begin decorating their bikes/trikes for the bike parade. Children's Ministry will have a craft for all the kids to work on.
- 11:30 AM - Our VBS kids will perform some of the songs they learned during VBS week.
- 12 noon - Bike Parade around the parking lots!
Want to help? See the Volunteer Connection below for details.
Also This Sunday... Welcoming Jenn Pick We are excited to welcome Rev. Jenn Pick as our new Associate Pastor. Her first Sunday with us will be July 5, and we are planning a "pounding" to welcome the Picks to our family. We encourage you to bring gift cards to your favorite local activities, restaurants, stores, etc. and notes of welcome. Jenn is passionate about creative worship and international relations, and we look forward to the dynamics she will add to our church staff. Jenn and her husband Todd have a 11-month-old son, Drew.

Mission Ministries

Feed Our Kids Big Week is July 6-10. We will be serving approximately 800-900 kids each day at six different sites. Here's how you can be involved daily:
- 9:00 AM - Kitchen Volunteers Arrive
- 10:00 AM - Arrive a little early to check in on Monday.
- 10:30-11:30 - Make lunches in the Family Life Center.
- 11:30-1:00 - Deliver and serve lunches to the apartment complexes.
Note that we have a particular need for hot dog grillers on Tuesday. Don't forget your sunscreen, bug spray, aprons and hats! Questions? Contact Deb Scheiwe (debscheiwe@verizon.net).
God Can Needs
We collected only 14 items for God Can this week.
Don't forget to pick up a few extra items when you do your grocery shopping! Although the GRACE Food Pantry doesn't update their needs list every week, they do let us know when things have substantially changed. So... note that they still have need for cooking oil, tuna, evaporated milk, canned soup/stew, spaghetti sauce, condensed milk, ramen noodles, children's cereal, syrup, condiments, vienna sausages, canned fruit and juice. Click here for GRACE's full updated list of needs (pdf). Please bring your donations to the God Can bins outside the church office or in the Sanctuary Foyer/Atrium.
Feed Our Kids - Shady Oaks
Did you know that when Feed Our Kids Big Week is over, we continue to feed our friends over at the Shady Oaks site for FOUR more weeks? This began as an opportunity to grow our relationship with Grapevine Village and has evolved into so much more.
For four weeks - July 13-17, 20-24, 27-31 and August 3-7 - leaders from Shady Oaks prepare the lunches every day and serve them to their community. Our church provides the kitchen to prepare the food, youth to come and play each day and special events like crafts and games. We also have opportunities for groups to come out and grill and join in the fun.
This year we are looking for youth to come to the site each day to play and get to know their neighbors. We also need volunteers who would like to do a special craft one day (or more), bring a fun game, do face painting or anything else you might come up with that would be engaging for kids!
Sign up to help on the Check-In insert in the Sunday bulletin or contact Debbie Price at debbiep@fumcg.org or 817-481-2559 x108.
Project Read Book Drive
Project Read is still taking your book donations to help fill our needs for Feed Our Kids summer distributions. Bring your donations of new or gently used books, especially for young readers and for Spanish speakers, to the donation boxes in the foyers of Founders Chapel and the Sanctuary as well as outside the church office through August 21. We can also use monetary donations to purchase books. Note "Project Read" on your check or envelope if you wish to do so.

An Update on the Connect GCISD Back to School Fair!
By Dr. Cindy Ryan
Good news! We are closing the gap and now only need donations for school supply packs for 280 children! If you, or an organization you are a part of, would like to provide any of these remaining school supply packs, go to www.educationalproducts.com/shoppacks - enter school code GCE000 - or you can donate to Connect at the GCISD Education Foundation, PO Box 292, Grapevine TX 76099. All funds will go directly to school supply packs. Just be sure and mark "Connect" clearly on your check.
Our other current need is to have new backpacks for all the children who will attend the fair. So, we are asking you, our church members, to donate new backpacks of all sizes between now and August 2. We will have clearly marked donation boxes in the atrium outside Founders Chapel, by the church office and in the sanctuary foyer. Thank you in advance for all you do to help support the children in need in our community!
If you would like to volunteer to help out at the Fair, we now have the volunteer sign-up form active on SignUp Genius. Click here to sign up.
Questions? Contact me (cindyr@fumcg.org) or Carolyn Ann Walgren cwalgren@verizon.net.

 Volunteer Connection
Volunteer This Sunday for Our 5th of July Fellowship Lunch
Kim Crater and her Fellowship team have a great plan in place for our All-American lunch following the 9:45 ONE WORSHIP SERVICE this Sunday.
- Prep Team: If you'd like to arrive early, at 8:00 you can meet in the Family Life Center kitchen and join in making tea, lemonade, putting cookies/cupcakes on trays, cutting watermelon and setting up stations for drinks and bike decorating and children's crafts.
- Grill and Wrap: At 9:00 our volunteers will start grilling hot dogs so if this time works for you, you can help wrap them in their buns and put them in coolers until time to serve lunch.
- Serve: When the one 9:45 worship service dismisses you could help serve the hot dogs and watch over the self-serve food lines and our drink stations.
- Clean Up: About 1:00 we will begin cleaning up.
If you are available to volunteer for any part of this church family fellowship event, either let Kim Crater know (eclaysman@aol.com) or just show up and join in the fun!
Feed Our Kids!
We'll be participating in Feed Our Kids for the next few weeks. If you'd like to serve, here are some options:
- BIG WEEK - July 6-10: On Tuesday, we need hot dog grillers. Contact Deb Scheiwe if you can help in this way (debscheiwe@verizon.net). Every day, all are welcome to come to the FLC at 10:30 AM to help make lunches, then go to the sites at 11:30 AM to deliver and play with the kids!
- SHADY OAKS - July 13-August 7: Volunteers can pick a day to help with crafts, recreation and entertainment for the kids! Contact Debbie Price to see where you are needed (debbiep@fumcg.org).

Surrender
by Fred Rigdon
In growing our spiritual character we try to establish a daily rule or way of life which includes practicing the spiritual disciplines throughout our day. A central part of this is going to God in various methods of prayer and in the study of scripture, and asking for His help and guidance. As much as this guidance helps us to live spirit-filled lives, and as rewarding as we find this deeper relationship with the Lord to be, many of us find it difficult to maintain our daily rule on a consistent basis. Family Ministries |
The Great Reveal We are excited to announce the coming of new Family Ministry programming here at FUMC Grapevine! You will notice throughout the summer that all of our themes are being replaced with new signs indicating "The Great Reveal: Coming Fall 2015." Creating and reinventing a ministry means hanging on to who we are while moving forward to become who God is calling us to be. It will take some time to create a quality, Christ-centered, people-reaching ministry! Read more on our website or in the June Family Ministries newsletter (pdf). Questions about Family Ministries? Caught Caring for a Family in Grapevine
by Melissa Shumaker
For the past couple of weeks, we've been letting you know how you can help a local homeless family move into and furnish an apartment. There are several instances of God's hand at work through the church and community. Here are some examples:
- A complete set of plates, bowls, mugs and serving pieces was donated. When the mom saw they were red, she started crying because she has always wanted red plates!
- A donated paper towel holder was adorned with a whimsical wooden cow. The daughter saw it and said, "Mom you finally got your cow theme for the kitchen AND your red plates!"
- Friday the mom said she was praying that somehow a washer and dryer would come through. Not knowing this, a church member arrived Saturday to let her know he had purchased a set for her to be delivered Monday.
- Another church member mentioned a potential job that fits what the mom has been doing for several years.
Each day, the gaps kept getting filled as each person who came by with donations asked what more could be done to help out. Melissa says, "I was so blessed to get to meet more of our church family and local neighbors who truly held this family in their hearts and showed God's provision these last 10 days. The family has much to navigate as they get back on their feet, and I know they are so grateful for all that has been given." Thanks for being "CAUGHT CARING"!! Check out some of the pictures from the newly-furnished apartment...
