DID YOU KNOW?
"Did You Know" is a series of feature articles that highlight various aspects of ministry in the church. Be on the lookout for the "Did You Know" inserts in Sunday's bulletin each week. If you miss Sunday, the articles are linked on our website at www.firstmethodistgrapevine.org/didyouknow.
Tween Ministry
Did you know that FUMCG's Tween Ministry targets the spiritual growth and needs of our 4th and 5th graders? The Association for Religion Data reported, "[during the tween years,] the role of parents recedes, and the influence of peers, the media, music and social media take over." The tween years are when children really begin moving from instinctively following the lead of their adult caregivers to questioning and searching for their own path. Keep reading...

Mission Ministries
New Need: Gas Cards
We are in need of $25 gas cards to give to families who are in need of emergency assistance. If you would like to donate cards, you may simply bring them by the church office.
New Need: Housing Necessities
The Grapevine Housing Authority is readying an apartment for a mother, 13 year old daughter and 16 year old son to move into. The family is living in their car right now, awaiting their move-in date. We have learned they have nothing, and it will be our joy as a caring congregation to help them furnish their three-bedroom apartment. Are you willing to help coordinate this effort? If so, email Bev Campisi at beverlyc@fumcg.org. We are not ready to accept donations yet, since their apartment is not ready, but we would like to begin a list of what furnishings you might have to donate so that we can manage your generosity. We will be looking for kitchen items, bathroom towels, furniture for the bedrooms, living room, dining room.
Costa Rica Village Luncheon
The Costa Rica Village team would like to invite you to a luncheon, where we'll transport you to the tropical rain forest, the Village of Las Juntas, and the Methodist Orphanage in Coronado. Experience the taste of tropical food, the love of the people, and hear about God's blessings from our recent trips! Team members from our youth trip in March and adult trip in May will be sharing stories of faith in action. Our youth will share how making a difference in the lives of people in Costa Rica can also transform your heart. Our adults will share what they have learned about "being the church," beyond just going to worship on Sundays. Join us on Sunday, June 28, at 12:15 PM in the Leach Hall for taste of "Pura Vida" - "pure life" in Costa Rica! We ask that you RSVP on the Check-In insert in Sunday's bulletin so that we have plenty of food. Questions? Contact Armando Alvarado (armandoa@fumcg.org, 817-481-2559 x122).
Project Read Book Drive
Project Read is in need of book donations to help fill our needs for Feed Our Kids summer distributions. During the summer we take books to the lunch sites for Feed our Kids all summer long (not just during the weeks the church is "in charge"). Volunteers read donated books with the children and give books away to be taken home.We need your donations of new or gently used books, especially for young readers and for Spanish speakers. Donation boxes can be found in the foyers of Founders Chapel and the Sanctuary as well as outside the church office through August 21. We can also use monetary donations to purchase books. Note "Project Read" on your check or envelope if you wish to do so.
If you would like to volunteer to help, sign up on Serve Over Summer online at www.firstmethodistgrapevine.org/sos or in Sunday's bulletin. Read more about Project Read at www.firstmethodistgrapevine.org/projectread. God Can Needs
We collected 63 items for GRACE this week. The GRACE Food Pantry is currently OUT of cooking oil, tuna, evaporated milk, canned soup/stew, spaghetti sauce, condensed milk, ramen noodles, children's cereal and syrup. They are currently LOW on condiments, vienna sausages, canned fruit and juice. Click here for GRACE's full updated list of needs (pdf). Please bring your donations to the God Can bins outside the church office or in the Sanctuary Foyer/Atrium. Feed Our Kids Big Week
Feed Our Kids Big Week is July 6-10. Here are our current needs:
- Donation Station volunteers needed after each service on Sunday, June 14 and Sunday, June 21. Help people choose needs off of the display boards and provide info about when we need donations and where to drop them off.
- Site Coordinators needed to fill out GRACE paperwork and commit to being at a site for the week. Can be a shared position as long as each day is covered. Simply guide volunteers as to where they can help and be a contact person at each site.
To volunteer, contact Deb Scheiwe ( debscheiwe@verizon.net).

Record Number of Economically Disadvantaged Students Have Registered for Connect GCISD Back to School Fair
By Dr. Cindy Ryan
On August 8, 2015 we will hold the 4th Annual Connect/GCISD Back to School Fair at Grapevine High School. This fair serves those in GCISD who are classified as economically disadvantaged, which is roughly 1 in 4 of the students GCISD serves. This year, we have a record number of students who are already pre-registered for the fair. Even since we last reported, the number has increased to 2,208! That's well over 1,000 more than we served last year.
The Women's Division of the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce provides generous funds for school supplies for these children, as does Connect. However, this year's pre-registration is the highest ever and we are in need of individuals and community groups to help provide school supplies for all these extra children.
Our church has been a big part of the Back to School Fair in the past by providing gift cards, backpacks and school supply packs for the children as well as countless volunteers the day of the event.
If you, or an organization you are a part of, would like to help "stand in the gap" and provide school supply packs for GCISD children in need, you can go to www.educationalproducts.com/shoppacks - enter school code GCE000 - or you can donate to Connect at the GCISD Education Foundation, PO Box 292, Grapevine TX 76099 and all funds will go directly to school supply packs. Just be sure and mark "Connect" clearly on your check.
If you have questions or would like to volunteer at the fair contact me cindyr@fumcg.org or Carolyn Ann Walgren cwalgren@verizon.net. We will also have a sign up genius link when it gets closer to the fair date.

  Volunteer Connection
One week can change a life! And it might even be yours!
If you look at your calendar and see some open time between 9:00 AM and noon on June 22-26, it might be a perfect opportunity for you to be a part of our Vacation Bible School experience! Please check your calendar now, as more caring people can allow more children to come!
A Group Guide is a fun role that adults play. To be a Guide, you simply move the kiddos in your group from one event to the next. You shepherd them. You herd them! It's fun! You get to experience all of the creativity and hard work of those who have been planning for this all year. You can take in all the decorations of our transformed Founders Chapel and hallways. You can sing along with the music leaders and feel the JOY of Christ being shared with little ones ages 3 years old to 5th grade. And you can see and be with our incredible Youth who give up their summer days to help make all of this happen too! It is just a wonderful chance to be reminded of how important it is for children of all ages to see women and men of all ages leaning into their lives.
I love VBS each summer! I can't wait to experience how alive our church will be during these days and I hope you will feel led to volunteer to do something! Get a volunteer form at www.firstmethodistgrapevine.org/vbs or in the church office. Questions? Contact Karen Seals (karen.seals@verizon.net or 817-329-5479) or Amy Gravitt (amyg@fumcg.org or 817-481-2559 x213). You will be blessed to be a blessing to the children who come!
Thrift Shop Help
Thrift Shop is still inviting more participation in helping with the many generous donations that keep pouring in! Sort, price, hang, and visit while you do! A great team to work with weekly so contact Angelia Ozymy (aozymy@fumcg.org) for more details!

Access-Life Expo This Saturday
The Access-Life Expo that was to be held at Lake Grapevine in June HAS BEEN RELOCATED due to the flooding at the lake. The new location is at Haven's Horses (4200 Keller-Haslet Road near Keller). Help our Helping Hands Special Needs Ministry in supporting the Access-Life Group, a non-profit Christian organization, by volunteering for the Outdoor Expo Event at the Haven's Horses facility on Saturday, June 13, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This free event is for our local families living with disabilities. It is an outdoor adventure for all ages and levels of disabilities. Our church will be donating the water, ice and volunteers to make this the best Expo for the participants. If you would like to volunteer to help the day of the event, we'd love to have you! Volunteers and participants alike must register on the Access-Life website, www.access-life.org. Follow the information on the left side of the registration page. Questions? Contact Helping Hands Ministry Coordinator Joyce King at 817-488-9141.
July 5 Worship and Fellowship Mark your calendar! On Sunday, July 5, we will gather together for ONE WORSHIP SERVICE at 9:45 AM in the Sanctuary, followed by lunch at 11:00 AM in the Family Life Center. Worship Arts is preparing a great patriotic musical celebration for the day. The Fellowship Committee is hosting an All-American Hot Dog Lunch immediately following worship. Kids can bring their bicycles, tricycles, scooters, etc., to decorate for a parade around our parking lot. The Children's Ministry will have a craft for all the kids to make and take home. Our VBS kids will also perform some of the songs they learn during VBS week. All food will be provided by the church, although donations are always welcome to help offset the cost. No reservations are required, so invite your friends to join us for a wonderful morning of worship followed by good, old-fashioned fellowship! Want to help? We'll need set-up helpers, hot dog grillers, servers, kitchen helpers and more! Sign up on the Check-In insert in Sunday's bulletin or contact Kim Crater (eclaysman@aol.com or 972-523-0354) if you would like to help. |

Women's Book Study of "Anonymous" by Cindi Wood
Ladies, looking for some spiritual growth this summer? A women's book study has just begun this week studying "Anonymous" by Cindi Wood. The group meets Wednesdays at 9:30 AM in Room 2008. At one time or another, every woman has felt overlooked, unimportant, and bruised by the world. Anonymous helps women discover their uniqueness and significance to Christ by exploring some of the "anonymous" women of the Bible. If you are interested in joining this study, contact Susan Quindara (817-656-1496, Kukanaq@hotmail.com).

A Daily Rhythm
by Fred Rigdon
One of our spiritual formation goals is to establish a daily rhythm that weaves our spiritual behaviors and practices into our work and our relationships with others and that allows us to remain aware of God's presence throughout our day. To do this we need to develop a plan that includes practicing some of the spiritual disciplines throughout the day. The regular practice of these disciplines brings us closer to God and allows us to receive his guidance. Keep reading...

Family Ministries |
The Great Reveal We are excited to announce the coming of new Family Ministry programming here at FUMC Grapevine! You will notice throughout the summer that all of our themes are being replaced with new signs indicating "The Great Reveal: Coming Fall 2015." Creating and reinventing a ministry means hanging on to who we are while moving forward to become who God is calling us to be. It will take some time to create a quality, Christ-centered, people-reaching ministry! Read more on our website or in the June Family Ministries newsletter (pdf). Questions about Family Ministries?
