 Mother's Day
This Sunday, May 10, we celebrate Mother's Day! We'll have a special appreciation that the children have prepared for the women of the church.
We invite you to honor your mom by helping families in our community who are in need. Your gifts to the Benevolence Fund help moms in crisis to provide for their families. To give, simply mark your gift "Benevolence" and put it in the offering plate or give online at www.firstmethodistgrapevine.org/give. If you would like to let your mom know about your gift, we have small cards available in the church office and in the foyers for you to include in your Mother's Day card.

Access-Life Expo and Helping Hands
 Did you know that our church supports several ministries that help people with disabilities connect with God and His grace and guidance? Access-Life was founded in 2010 to connect individuals and families living with disabilities to Jesus. Founded in Florida, they now have active "outposts" in Tennessee and in North Texas. Did you know that on Saturday, June 13, 2015, Access-Life will host a free outdoor Expo at Trawick Pavilion in Oak Grove Park at Grapevine Lake? This will be the third year our church is involved. The Access-Life Expo provides an outdoor adventure including fishing, archery, boat rides, crafts, animals, food and fun. The event is for all ages and levels of disabilities. Pastoral Apopintments
 Appreciation for Rick & Liz Mang Rev. Rick Mang announced a few weeks ago that he and Liz will be reappointed to First Methodist Church in Crowley, Texas, effective July 1. Their last Sunday with us will be June 14. Rick will preach that day, and we'll have a cookie reception to give everyone an opportunity to wish the Mangs well. If you would like to give toward a love offering for Rick and Liz, please mark "Mang Love Offering" in the memo of your gift (note that love offering gifts are not tax deductible). We also suggest that Sonic gift cards would be appropriate! We will be sad to see Rick and Liz leave us, but wish them blessings on their new ministry in Crowley.  New Associate Pastor to be AppointedWe are excited to announce that Rev. Jenn Pick will be appointed as our new Associate Pastor at Annual Conference in June. New appointments take effect July 1, so Jenn will begin work that day. The Staff-Parish Relations Committee has had the opportunity to meet Jenn and we are excited about her new ministry here at FUMC Grapevine. Jenn has most recently been serving at First Methodist Church in Mansfield. She is a 2010 graduate of Drew Theological Seminary. Jenn is passionate about creative worship and international relations. Jenn has spent much of her ministry tenure in the New York Annual Conference, but she grew up in Red Oak, Texas.  National Day of Prayer is Tomorrow Thursday, May 7, is the National Day of Prayer. You are invited to join the Prayer Team at 12:00 noon in Founders Chapel for a brief time of prayer for our nation and our leaders. We will be recognizing our graduating High School Seniors on Sunday, May 17. Mission Ministries
Top Needs
Our top needs this week are:
- Benevolence Funds. This fund provides emergency financial assistance to families in our community. If you'd like to give, please mark "Benevolence" in the memo of your gift.
- Full Size Mattress. A neighbor living in the Grapevine Housing Authority (GHA) is in need of a firm mattress to fit her full-size box springs and frame. She is sleeping on her couch due to her poor mattress.
- Cleaning. A neighbor at GHA who is unable to clean her apt due to health issues would appreciate someone who might be able to help her.

God Can Needs
The GRACE Food Pantry is currently OUT of cooking oil, tuna, evaporated milk, canned soup/stew, spaghetti sauce, condensed milk, ramen noodles, children's cereal and syrup. The are currently LOW on condiments, vienna sausages, canned fruit and juice. Click here for GRACE's full updated list of needs (pdf).  Collections for Our Troops!
The Support Our Military ministry supports our troops by sending cards and care packages. Support Our Military will be collecting items for care packages on May 24 and 31, with a packing party on May 31. You may donate items for the care packages or help pack care packages on Sunday, May 31, at 12:00 PM in the Family Life Center. All ages are welcome! Start collecting items to donate now. Response to Nepal
 With over 5,000 deaths and millions displaced by the recent earthquake, United Methodists are on the ground bringing prayers and aid to the people of Nepal and neighboring China and India. You can be a part of the relief effort by giving your time in prayer, and your financial resources for disaster relief. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) provides emergency food, shelter and medicine after natural and man-made disasters, provides humanitarian relief to refugees and displaced persons and works to overcome world hunger and poverty. One hundred percent of your tax-deductible gifts go to the emergency response or Advance project that you designate. Around the Villages
 Costa Rica Mission TripWe have a team headed to Costa Rica on Saturday, May 16, to continue our ministry there. The team will spend most of their time at the Methodist Children's Home in San Jose. Our team is: Armando Alvarado, Lindsey Breunig, Joy Dister, Mary Doyle, Terry Doyle, Preston Schaap, Tommy Hudspeth, Cathy Jackson, Matt Jackson, Mateo Martinez, Debbie Price and Anna Zapatero. Kenya Mission Trip
There will be 11 people going on the Kenya trip this summer (June 15-27). We are planning to take t-shirts as we do every year to our AIDS orphans. If you would like to provide your child a t-shirt, the recommended donation is $15 per child. Just note "Kenya t-shirts" in the memo line of your check. The team will also be taking at least six laptop computers for the Synod staff. If you would like to help purchase a laptop (or a part of one), the cost is $336 per unit. Please note "Kenya Laptops" in the memo line. We will also be conducting two medical camps while there. The dispensary is always in need of gauze pads... either 2x2 or 4x4. We appreciate your help with all these things and will keep you updated on our itinerary as it firms up!
 Latvia Village News Due to conflicts with schedules, we will not be taking a trip to Latvia in September as we had originally planned. However, there will be several members of our church going in August during the Latvia Annual Conference gathering. Also, during this year's Friends of Latvia meeting, we decided to try to hold next year's Friends of Latvia gathering in Latvia! Keep that in mind if you are thinking about making a trip to Latvia, and mark June 2016 as a possible date. We'll let you know when we have more details. We would also like to congratulate Mark Croft, who is the newly-elected Chair of the national Friends of Latvia!

 Volunteer Connection
Are you a photographer in need of subjects to capture?
Volunteer to attend our youth events and special children's events and capture the fellowship and excitement to share with our church! When our staff for our youth and children are busy running these events they are focused on the youth and children and never get to take the photos they so wish were going to be shared with others to show what vital Christian ministries we have for our families. If you are one who enjoys taking photos, this will be a joyful serving opportunity for you! Have a good camera on your phone? Even that will work if you aren't a more serious photographer! Getting your images to Michael, Patty, and Melissia via email quickly following events will be a wonderful service! Brunch & Worship on May 24
 On Sunday, May 24, we will share together in brunch at 9:45 AM in the Family Life Center, followed by ONE WORSHIP SERVICE at 11:00 AM in the Sanctuary. There will be no Sunday School that day. The Bilingual Praise Team will share special music at brunch, and the worship service will feature the 9 AM Praise Team, Chancel Choir and Agape Voice! The Well with Gwen Smith
 This Thursday, May 7, is our next gathering of The Well, featuring Gwen Smith. We'll get started a little earlier this time - at 6:30 PM - to give you plenty of time to fellowship with your girlfriends, moms, sisters, daughters, etc. and check out the beautifully-decorated tables. Gwen will be singing and sharing her heart for girlfriends in God. Gwen's goal is to encourage you to think big thoughts about God by pointing you to His truth and grace through stories, songs and scripture.  Growing Older Without Fear What is your greatest fear about growing older? Losing your sense of humor? Losing your looks? Losing your memory? Losing your sense of control? With wisdom and wit, the book Growing Older without Fear by Gary Kindley takes a fresh look at the process of aging. Rev. Annette Sowell will lead a book study on this book starting Tuesday, May 12, at 7:00 PM in Room 2002 of the Family Life Center. The cost of the book is $15. New Horizon with Richard Barry  The New Horizons will gather on Tuesday, May 26, at 6:30 PM in Leach Hall, for a catered meal and entertainment by Richard Barry. Richard is a seasoned performer aboard cruise ships and in venues from New York to Las Vegas. You will travel down memory lane as he sings songs that have survived the passing of time. Richard accompanies himself on the keyboard and is known for his impressions of famous singers, great humor, and musical skill. Come enjoy an evening of fun, Christian fellowship! Refreshing the Soul - Lectio Divina
 Please join us for the next gathering of Refreshing the Soul on Tuesday, May 12, at 7:00 PM in Roundtable Room. We will be exploring the practice of lectio divina, a way of praying the Scriptures that has been a fruitful resource of growing in relationship with Christ for many centuries. In Latin, lectio divina means "sacred or divine reading" and describes a way of reading the Scriptures in which we let go of our agenda and open ourselves to what God wants to say to us. Come join us as we prayerfully listen to Scripture, as the Benedictines instructed, "with the ear of the heart" that holds a word from God such as a word of comfort, instruction, challenge, or assurance. What Is Spiritual Formation?

 Spiritual formation can be defined in a number of ways. Some define it as "becoming like Jesus" or "getting ourselves ready for Heaven." Dallas Willard, in The Great Omission, said, "Spiritual Formation may be thought of as the shaping of the inner life, the spirit or the spiritual side of the human being. The formation of the heart or the will (which I believe is best taken as the spirit) of the individual, along with the emotions and the intellect, is therefore the primary focus, regardless of what overt practices may or may not be involved." I think of spiritual formation as accepting God's invitation to become what He created us to be. Keep reading...

Parenting Seminar: Faith, Friendships, and Belonging
Being a parent in today's world is tough! Youth and children do not come with a manual, and parents don't have divine foreknowledge to be aware of every situation their child will face. On Wednesday, May 13, from 6:00-7:30 PM, FUMC Grapevine will host a free seminar for parents. Dena Kohleriter, LCSW/Family Therapist from the Momentous Institute, will lead us in "Faith, Fellowship and Belonging: Dealing with acceptance, rejection and bullying." This seminar is for parents of youth, pre-teens and children. As a community of faith, it is our responsibility to help strengthen families throughout our community. We are dedicated to helping families grow together while balancing parenting, family life and work. Please join us for this exciting learning opportunity. Light refreshments will be provided. Please remember that if you volunteer for any ministry that reaches children, youth or vulnerable adults at our church or in the community you must complete MinistrySafe training. If you plan on volunteering for VBS, Fiestas, Project Read, Summer Swim, Youth Missions* (adult sponsors), Tween missions, Sunday School, youth, village activities, or mission trips, this applies to you. The Central Texas Conference of the Methodist Church has adopted these new policies and all volunteers must complete the 4 steps of training: online abuse video, policies and procedures, screening (application, interview, reference checks) and background checks by June 10. During these training sessions we attempt to complete policies and procedures as well as screening of all volunteers. Come join us and get "caught caring" for the safety of all our Children and Youth!!!
*Anyone 18 years or older who wishes to volunteer for these programs must be MinistrySafe trained. Those attending CTCYM missions only are considered participants, but if an 18 year old wants to volunteer other places in the church they must be MinistrySafe trained.

Main Street Days Parking
The Youth and Boy Scouts will hold their yearly Main Street Daysparking lot fundraiser on May 15-17. Senior Sunday
Senior Sunday is May 17! The graduating Senior Class of 2015 will be recognized in the 11:00 AM worship service, and seniors are invited to take part in the worship service. Graduating seniors and their families are invited to a lunch in the Family Life Center at 12:15 PM. The Junior class will be hosting. Seniors, you should have received an RSVP card and senior bio form in the mail. Please fill out the bio & RSVP card and return them to the church office NO LATER than Monday, May 11. We also need pictures of you for the bulletin and the slide show. We're excited about our upcoming Vacation Bible School... G-FORCE: God's Love In Action! VBS is June 22-26. Registration has now begun. The cost is $15 per child. New this year, we are hosting a series of Christian sports camps for children ages 5 to 12, in partnership with Triumph Sports. There will be a camp on the afternoons of VBS in June, one in July, and one in August. Thanks for Caring!
A few weeks ago, we had a couple of major needs arise with regard to repairs to our elevator and roofs. We'd like to say a special "thank you" to all of those who have given generously to provide the needed funds for these repairs!
Serendipity Bible Study "Caught Caring" Last Sunday, the Thursday morning Serendipity Bible Study, facilitated by Kenda Diehm, was "caught caring" by providing and serving a lasagna dinner to the youth of our church for their Sunday evening gathering. Thanks, ladies!
Colleyville Chamber of Commerce "Caught Caring" On April 2, the Youth Leadership program sponsored by the Colleyville Chamber of Commerce made a donation to Weekend Food in the amount of $750!
Iron Men "Caught Caring" The Iron Men put on a spectacular golf tournament again this year! We want to say a special thank you to all of those involved in sponsoring and playing to benefit our church's missions and ministries! Here are the results of this year's event:
