Your Guide to the Fleet
AUGUST  2015
Impossible Science Festival Weekend
Have you ever wanted to experiment with the science of invisibility? Or make objects levitate? There are ways to make the seemingly impossible become possible with science.

Join Jason Latimer, the Fleet's Curator of Impossible Science, as he hosts a two-day Impossible Science Festival in the Fleet exhibit galleries!

The Impossible Science Festival will feature hands-on demos of things that are supposedly impossible, like invisibility, levitation, animation and super powers!

Most exciting of all, we'll also have a giant pool of strange, squishy Oobleck. Adventurous souls such as yourself can have an opportunity to walk across an impossible substance. More>>

The Impossible Science Festival takes place on Saturday & Sunday, August 22 & 23, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the upstairs gallery of the Fleet.

Please note: Admission to the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center on Saturday and Sunday, August 22 and 23, includes access to all of the Impossible Science Festival activities from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., as well as the Fleet's interactive exhibits, including CIRCUS: Science Under the Big Top, and one IMAX film. $21.95 adults, $19.95 seniors and $18.95 children 3-12. Children ages 2 and younger receive free admission.

3D Printing Coming to the Tinkering Studio
The Reuben H. Fleet Science Center is excited to introduce 3D printing to the Tinkering Studio! Use Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) techniques to design your own toys and structures, then watch as a 3D printer creates your model right before your eyes.

3D printing has helped spark the Maker Movement and revolutionized the way objects are made and designed worldwide.

The workshop is available for ages 13+. Pricing for the three-session workshop is $80 for Fleet members and $90 for nonmembers. More>>

Meet Scientists at Your Favorite Pub
On Thursday, August 20, we're sending 50 scientists out to 25 bars all over San Diego County to enjoy a beer, conversation and answer any questions you may have about science. Our scientists will be easy to spot. They'll be next to a sign that says, "We're scientists, ask us anything."

Chosen by San Diego Magazine as one of the "27 Reasons to Love San Diego," Two Scientists Walk Into a Bar is a fun community program organized by the Fleet. The full list of bars is on our website, plus listings of the specialties of each participant so you can be sure to visit the scientist best suited to answer your questions.
