January 2013
Greetings!,

The Newfoundland Club of America is responsible for the preservation, protection and welfare of the Newfoundland Dog. We provide health, education, and rescue programs, safeguard the breed standard and promote the historical work of the breed.  We welcome your comments and suggestions to improve our communication with you.
Drop us a line and let us know what you're thinking.

The NCA has a number of brochures available to you to download. Flyers about health issues, along with brochures Introducing the Newfoundland, and The Most Commonly Asked Questions can help you promote responsible dog ownership and education about our breed. Remember too, that a quick referral to NewfPuppy.Com will connect prospective puppy owners with a wealth of information.

Westminster Excitement Heats Up Chilly February
In 1984, BIS, BISS Ch Seaward's Blackbeard ROM, or Adam as he was known to his friends and fans, became the first Newfoundland to win Best In Show at Westminster. Adam was owned by Elinor Ayers and bred by Nancy MacMahan and Katherine Lein.

The NCA has posted a collection of press clippings and articles about this great accomplishment -
take a moment to read all about it while preparing to watch the Newfs take to the big green carpet - live-stream breed judging from the Westminster Kennel Club website and live broadcast of groups on February 11 and 12 on CNBC and USA network.

The other Newfoundland to receive this prestigious accolade was BIS, BISS Ch Darbydale's All Rise Pouch Cove, ROM. Josh, the 2004 Westminster Best In Show winner, was bred by Carol Bergmann and owned by Peggy Helming & Carol Bergmann.

Greetings!

The NCA has more than 40 committees that work hard for the welfare of our dogs. Their annual reports will be published in the upcoming 1st Quarter 2013 issue of NewfTide, so you'll have an opportunity to see what they've been up to for the past year and, in some cases, what their plans are for 2013.

Also keep in mind that each year at the National Specialty, the NCA Board appoints the chairs of these committees and the members of all Board-appointed committees.  If you have an interest in serving the club and wish to be considered for a particular appointment, please contact Lynne Anderson, NCA 2nd Vice President and Committee Liaison.  We'll definitely find a way to put you to work!

Pam Saunders,
NCA President

Newfoundland Club of America
Your NCA Board of Directors recognizes the value and prevalence of social networking systems, such as Facebook™, email lists, and blogs. Sometimes the rise of this entirely new class of communication has been accompanied by what has come to be viewed as cyber-harassment. Those engaged in cyber-harassment post negative comments and half or fabricated truths, often in a sarcastic manner, about individuals who cannot defend themselves. Members of the Newfoundland Club of America should consider social networking communication as public and, as such, understand that their comments reflect on themselves and the NCA. Members should consider carefully what and how they write and are encouraged to stress positive aspects of education rather than negative or sarcastic comments about owners, breeders, and/or Newfoundland fanciers.
