Make Decisions That Get Results!

Decisions, decisions, decisions...what to do, when, where, why and how!

Many of us do not like moving outside our comfort zone. We like to feel safe and secure so we resist making decisions. We don't want to look foolish or fall flat on our faces.  The older we get the more complacent we become.  The problem with complacency is it kills our passion.  It makes us play ourselves small. It clips our wings and keeps us from soaring to new heights.

This little bird makes me think of a decision many of us struggle with every day.  The decision of whether to play it safe and hang on to what we know and just survive...or take a leap of faith and go after our dreams and try to soar!

Inspiration

A big thank you to my sisters, Leatrice and Jeanette Miller for sharing the beautiful bird pictures. They love taking picture of birds and call their hobby birding.  Birding entails heading out for the day with their gi-normous cameras and waiting patiently for a magnificent shot.  They are my inspiration for this month's newsletter.

and Smile!

There are five fundamentals that help you make decisions that get results.  They are choice, assessment, conviction, determination, and result.

So let's start with Choice because it is the starting point for all our decisions.  Before my sisters head out to go birding they need to make a choice on what bird(s) they want to photograph that day.  Choosing what birds they want photograph for the day will determine where they go.  Just like before we can make a decision we need to narrow down our focus to our main priority.  (I invite you to read February's newsletter if you want to read more about focus.)  What will your focus be for 2013?  Will it be just to continue doing the same things you have always done and play it safe or will it be to take on new things to attempt to soar?  Choosing your focus will determine where you go!

The second phase is Assessment.  Before my sister's know when and where to go they need to assess the bird's habits, migration and habitat.  Knowing what they eat, when they migrate and where they like to live helps them determine when and where they can find them.  Assessing our strengths and where we need to grow to soar will determine when and where we need to focus.

Conviction is the third phase.  They are passionate and confident that they will find whatever bird they are pursuing.  Without conviction they wouldn't be willing to really push themselves to go where they need to go.  Having conviction that we can achieve our goal allows us to try new things and push ourselves to heights we have never been before.

Determination is the fourth phase.  My sister's go out again and again and again...and sometimes to the same location until they get the perfect bird picture.  Without determination they wouldn't be willing to do what it takes to overcome the challenges and roadblocks.  LOL, speaking of roadblocks

...my sister's philosophy...no problem who needs a road...just make your own!  If we lack determination we will not be be willing to put forth the effort necessary to support our decisions.

The fifth and final phase is Result!  They know exactly what picture they want for their end result.  You are seeing their result below; a majestic golden eagle soaring high.  It is important to know what you want your end result to be...otherwise, how will you know when you achieve it and can celebrate your success!

It's your decision! How high will you soar?
