More Articles About Workaholism!

"The Japanese have a word for this: "Karoshi," or death by work. Yet, according to figures from the International Labor Office, American workers put in more hours per year than their Japanese counterparts (1,792 hours compared to 1,771). A recent Expedia poll found that fewer than 40 percent of Americans use up their annual vacation time. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development reports that Americans are putting in 20 percent more hours than they were in 1970. Increasingly, 60-hour work weeks are becoming the norm."

Fantastic article about workaholic with amazing and scary statistics!

W.A. 2012 World Conference in Portland, Oregon!
 September 13-16, 2012

Fantastic time at the Portland conference.

A BIG THANK YOU to the Portland committee and other board members that helped organized the conference schedule, rides to and from the airport, conferences reservations and details.etc...

What a fabulous time everyone had. The facility we stayed at was absolutely gorgeous and we where able to look out at the mountains and hike high above the Columbia River. Some of us even got to see waterfalls and hike around Mt. Hood! We were represented by the U.S., Portugal, Brazil and even Japan, for the very first time!  W. A. Members enjoyed yoga, delicious food, connecting with other members and had relaxing times in the cool mountain air.

We had some great meetings, workshops and break out sessions on the first three steps, work aversion, sponsorship, leadership and Workanon and  some new members found sponsors to help guide them through the steps.

I was very blessed to finally meet a a sponsee that I have been working with for three years over the phone!

W. A. Meditation Book - Call For Contributions

The W.A.W.S.O. Literature Committee is creating a meditations book. We would like all the meditations to come from the fellowship, so . . .
We need your help!

All members are welcome to write and submit meditations for publication. Consider having a writing play day for your meeting group. Not only would this activity provide opportunities for reflection and meditation, but it would also allow group members to make contributions to a book that will serve the needs of the whole fellowship.

A suggested meeting format for writing meditations is available at the WA website. For more details about submitting meditations, please visit the W.A. website.

Also, a suggested meeting format for writing meditations is also available at the W.A. website here for you to view.

We look forward to receiving your meditations!!
Have fun with us!!

Your trusted servants,

W.A.W.S.O. Literature Committee

W.A. Seeks Professional Representative for Our Fellowship

As workaholism has become a widespread concept in public media, the ways it is communicated about can often create more misconceptions than understandings. In this regard, members of Workaholics Anonymous are currently seeking a professional representative to speak on behalf of the fellowship and respond to public press releases that may misconstrue the reality of being a workaholic. If you know of someone or have suggestions for who might serve as a reputable spokesperson for WA (who is not affiliated with the fellowship), please send your recommendations to Laura R. [email protected]

New 24/7 Fellowship Line for W.A.

Workaholics Anonymous registered a twenty-four hour conference call telephone number for all our members around the world to check in with each other at the "top" of every hour of the day and night. Check with your local service provider, as they may charge you for your call.

You may find others on the line; or you may not. It is not monitored by WAWSO. It is public, unrecorded, and is there solely for the purpose of our members' check-ins, bookends, and fellowship.Click on the link below for more info.

Supporting W.A. Seventh Tradition Contributions

Our Seventh Tradition provides that W.A. is fully self-supporting; declining outside contributions. WAWSO welcomes contributions from W.A. groups and members. One hundred percent of all contributions directly support recovery from workaholism. Carrying the message of recovery to workaholics who still suffer includes email and phone services, a quarterly newsletter, media and community outreach, literature development and distribution, this website, an annual conference, meeting information and support, and other outreach services. Please print out and send this Seventh Tradition form
to support W.A.'s Outreach.

NOTE:
by Credit card or Paypal. Thank you for your generous support.
Request For Sponsors

WA has, from time to time, requests for sponsorship from people recovering from workaholism.  We keep a confidential list of volunteers who are willing to take this on.  If you are willing, please send us an email with your contact information (or any other information you feel a sponsee should know) to: [email protected]

Your information is kept confidential to protect your anonymity. We will contact you with a person's contact information when someone requests, offering you the opportunity to respond.  Your offering of this service will be of great value to you as well as to the person you would be sponsoring.

Group Support section on website

There are helpful tools and materials available here that you can download for your group; meeting formats, types of meetings, tips on outreach, W.A. Public Awareness Guidelines, archives to news letters and much more!

W.A. also has a Meeting Development committee to offer more ongoing support to new and existing groups.

This committee reaches out to members in groups around the world to help them continue to build a strong meeting and local fellowship. Each committee member is assigned meeting contacts in regional areas.

We are looking for more W.A. members to volunteer to help "sponsor" a group and offer them support and make sure they know about our new Group Support section on the website. This is a wonderful way to provide service and get to know other W.A. members around the world! Interested? Contact Laura R. [email protected]

Please contribute what you can for your meetings. :)

W.A operates on contributions from it's members and literature sales. Please don't forget to go online and make a contribution to W.A. if you only go to phone meetings. You can click here donate.
