Above, Dr. Christina Economos presents at TEDxSomerville. On March 8, 2016 Dr. Economos will be the keynote speaker at Wake Up with Weight of the Fox Valley.
Tipping the Scales on Childhood Obesity
Despite recent declines in the prevalence among preschool-aged children, childhood obesity is a serious problem. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, obesity now affects 1 in 6 children and adolescents in the United States.
But, there are efforts underway to change these statistics. You are invited to join us for Wake up with Weight of the Fox Valley (a free breakfast event) on March 8 from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. at Bridgewood Conference Center, Neenah. One of America's leading
experts on childhood obesity and our keynote speaker, Dr. Christina Economos, will tell us how we can leverage community resources to reduce childhood obesity in the Fox Valley. (Note that this activity has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit.)

. I am particularly excited to hear Dr. Economos because of her work with Shape Up Somerville, a 15-year-old strategy to build and sustain a healthier community in Massachusetts. Dr. Economos led the Shape Up Somerville study, demonstrating that it is possible to reduce excess weight gain in children. I often draw inspiration from their efforts for our local initiative to reduce obesity, Weight of the Fox Valley (WOTFV). WOTFV is working in Calumet, Outagamie and Winnebago Counties to achieve and maintain a healthy weight at every age. To create community-wide change, both Weight of the Fox Valley and Shape Up Somerville have adopted an innovative approach called collective impact. Collective impact brings people from diverse organizations together to focus on the same goal. We hope you are able to join us for breakfast to learn more - we need the whole community working together to make an impact on this important issue.

Olive Oil vs. Coconut Oil |
Both of these cooking oils are similar in calorie content, about 118 calories per tablespoon, but olive oil is a good source of monounsaturated fat (MUFA) while coconut oil tends to be higher in saturated fat.
