Hello to you fellow agents and brokers, loyal readers, and all SDAHU members. In the new ebb and flow world of health insurance, this is the quiet time before the 4th quarter storm in small group and individual insurance. That is not to say it is vacation time. I continue to try to unravel CoveredCA and carrier miscommunications, some from as long as a year ago. After two plus years on the air, the software and vendor alignment continue to be troublesome. Couple that with reduced customer service from most carriers, and the experience of buying and using health insurance is still iffy.

Many former "large" groups in the 51-99 category are facing renewals as 2016 unfolds, with the uncomfortable change from composite rate to age banded rates. Premium shock at renewal is an ongoing concern for all of us. Explaining to a business owner that a 20% annual rate increase remarkably still makes that insurer the best buy in the market, for that type of plan, is a challenge all year long.  Read more.

This past year SDAHU has added on to the number of philanthropy partnerships we are honored to work with. We have made both cash and in-kind donations working with the Rady Children's Hospital Special Needs Clinic, the Rady Children's Hospital Helen Bernardy Center for Medically Fragile Children, The Emilio Nares Foundation and Banding Together. With over $15,000 donated so far this year, SDAHU is proud of the work we do. Read more
