Whether you're vegan, vegetarian or an omnivore, this program guides attendees towards strategies that will help them live a longer, healthier life. In this program, Sharon Palmer, Registered Dietitian, author of The Plant-Powered Diet, and a leading expert in the field of nutrition, explains why you should fill your plate with more whole-plant foods and how to do so. Sharon also samples one of her favorite "plant-powered" recipes from her book, answers audience questions, and signs copies of The Plant-Powered Diet.

EarthKnot.org Launch Event and Networking

EarthKnot.org is a new, socially interactive web site "Helping accountable 'green' product, service, arts, and entertainment providers to connect with environmentally conscious consumers via socially engaging technologies."
This FREE networking and launch event will feature over 20 confirmed Green Businesses, including: The ReUse People, artist Cassandra Tondro, Ecologica Furniture, the Building Doctors, Green Sapling dinnerware, Native Plant Society and more. The Satellite will be offering tours and free day passes to all attendees. Organic wines, vodka, veggies, fruit and treats will be served.

We are the food we eat and nutrition feeds every cell in our body. Claudia, a licensed acupuncturist and medical herbalist, will be talking about how Local foods are better for the environment because they don't have to travel far. That Local also makes the produce healthier, because the fresher the food is, the higher the nutrient content is. She'll bring light to the importance of eating seasonal and the effects of factory farming on health vs. our own "medicinal" food garden.
You do not have to be a member to attend the meeting and walk through The Learning Garden. Come join us and see what is possible and If you like what you hear, a lifetime membership with SLOLA, is only $10.

HGA Architects and Engineers (HGA) is a major integrated architecture, engineering and planning firm.
HGA is committed to be carbon neutral by 2030. Their office features energy efficient lighting strategies like daylighting with windows, photosensors that automatically dim interior lights and high-efficiency fluorescent T8 lamps. HGA's comprehensive sustainable procurement policy ranges from office products to janitorial supplies such as Mrs Meyers product line, to
ecologically preferred sponges (available through Staples) containing compostable scrubbing fibers and recyclable materials. HGA uses certified recycled paper and re-manufactured toner cartridges made by EcoPlus, a socially responsible company that donates a percentage of their proceeds to charities. HGA employees keep their costs and waste low by refilling their own reusable bottles with Santa Monica water.
HGA's office submitted for USGBC LEED Gold for Commercial Interior certification in 2013 (pending). In addition to educating staff and clients on green building and sustainable design, they are working on Zero-Plus guiding principles for designing buildings which go beyond net zero and produce more energy than they consume.
