STILL ACCEPTING INNOVATION LAB APPS
 It's not too late to apply to this round of the Filmworks Innovation Lab! Applications will be accepted through August 28. Applicants should make sure to read the Guidelines & Criteria. If you missed our mandatory application meetings, review the PowerPoint slides and call our office to schedule a call with our staff.
The Filmworks Innovation Lab offers funding assistance as a return on qualified in-state expenditures on the production of motion picture content (including labor and talent who are Washington State residents). Projects must spend between $25,000 - $499,999 in Washington.

Z NATION PREMIERE, TRAILER
The Filmworks incentive project Z Nation is coming to the Syfy Channel on September 12. The 13-episode zombie series has been shooting in Spokane and the premiere of its trailer aired during the broadcast of Sharknado 2: The Second One, which was watched by a record-breaking audience of 3.9 million viewers.

THEATRICAL NEWS: LAGGIES & MAURY ISLAND
Lynn Shelton's newest film Laggies hits theaters October 24. The WF incentive film released its official trailer recently, which you can watch here. The film stars Keira Knightley, Chlo� Grace Moretz, and Sam Rockwell.
Filmworks Innovation Lab project, The Maury Island Incident, is now available on IndieFlix. The six-part series premiered on August 19 and is the first original content series available on IndieFlix. Directed by Seattle-based Scott Schaefer, the series is based on declassified FBI documents surrounding Harold Dahl's alleged UFO sighting over Puget Sound in 1947.

4 MINUTE MILE AVAILABLE ON YEKRA
4 Minute Mile, incentive film project starring Kelly Blatz, Kim Basinger and Richard Jenkins, is now available for purchase on Yekra. The film can be purchased for $12.99 or rented for $6.99.
4 Minute Mile tells the inspirational story of Drew, a high-school student struggling to overcome the inner-city surroundings that threaten to imprison him. His only outlet is track practice but that is taken from him as he continues down the path of his troubled sibling; even the affections of a girl at school can't set him straight. Just as it seems hopeless, an ex-track coach with his own demons witnesses Drew's speed and athleticism and decides to train him to reach for more than he ever imagined possible.

REMINDER: PULLING FOCUS STARTS OCT 1
Washington Filmworks is pleased to announce the return of Pulling Focus, a panel series in Seattle and Spokane that focuses on the business of film. These panel discussions, moderated by Warren Etheredge (Host of Reel NW and Editor-At-Large of Media Inc.), are designed to speak to a diverse audience, from screenwriters to actors, from directors to producers and on to musicians. The goal is to elevate the conversation and design a dialogue that will have a little something for everyone and will help give our community a rock-solid education about how to make the passion for film into a career. Guests are encouraged to continue the conversation at a hosted cocktail reception after the panel discussion.
The first event will be held in Seattle during Northwest Film Forum's ever-popular Local Sightings Film Festival on Wednesday, October 1. Stay tuned for Spokane event dates, guest bios and ticket info.
Pulling Focus is produced by Washington Filmworks and hosted by Northwest Film Forum and the Seattle International Film Festival. The events are also presented in partnership with the Seattle Office of Film + Music, Seattle Film Institute, and Women in Film.

SEATTLE TIMES COVERS WA FILM INCENTIVE
In an article published on August 20, The Seattle Times covered the issue of Washington State losing film productions to competitors with greater tax incentives. It's especially troubling when those productions are supposed to be set in and around Seattle or Washington State. WF Executive Director Amy Lillard was quoted in the article, explaining that because of the size of the Washington State incentive (capped at $3.5 million a year) we've largely targeted indie features and commercial work. With more money comes more work, and greater economic impact from filmmaking, which is why the article stressed the importance of increasing the tax incentive in Washington State.

 Film PAC 101: Washington State's Political Action Committee - WA FilmPAC has re-emerged to advocate for Washington's film industry. PACs play an important role in politics and we asked WF Board member Becky Bogard, a government relations specialist, to explain why they exist and how they work.
 Ahoy from Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority - The August Location of the Month takes on a maritime theme as we highlight the GHHSA, including the two vessels Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain and the many resources the GHHSA has to offer film productions.
 Video Built the Radio Star - Local radio station KEXP has built a symbiotic relationship between music and video content with their popular YouTube channel. They've also released some witty ads to promote the New Home Project.
