WASHINGTON FILMWORKS APPROVES
 The Washington Filmworks (WF) Board of Directors recently approved funding assistance for one new commercial. This project is a direct result of the Commercialize Seattle initiative, a business development campaign that has garnered national attention. Since 2007, WF has committed funding assistance to 98 Standard Program projects and 6 Innovation Lab projects, creating an economic impact of $268 million. That's exciting!
WF will accept applications for the Filmworks Innovation Lab this August and we have some funding assistance remaining for commercials. Stay tuned for announcements later this year, when WF resumes accepting Standard Program applications for 2015.

GOVERNOR VISITS SET OF Z NATION
Earlier this month, Governor Jay Inslee and First Lady Trudi Inslee traveled to Spokane and visited the set of the Syfy series Z Nation. During the visit, WF Executive Director Amy Lillard and Board Chair Don Jensen spoke with the Governor about the importance of the Washington State film incentive in the producers' decision-making process and the economic impact that Z Nation will have statewide. The series, which is filming in Spokane through the fall of this year, represents over 12,000 worker days for Washington crew, work for approximately 200 Washington actors and as many as 1,300 extras. This was the first time a Washington Governor has visited the set of an incentive project. Check out some of the photos.

SAVE THE JULY DATES
WF TOWN HALL MEETINGS IN SEATTLE & SPOKANE
WF will host town hall events in both Eastern and Western Washington in July. WF leadership and staff will share information about ongoing initiatives and answer questions from the community. We will also present the results of this year's jobs and vendor survey.

INNOVATION LAB
MANDATORY APPLICATION MEETINGS
WF is pleased to announce the return of the Filmworks Innovation Lab, a program designed to support Washington based filmmakers and filmmakers using emerging technologies. Those interested in applying for funding in August 2014 must attend a mandatory application meeting. Events are scheduled in Seattle on Saturday, July 26, in Spokane on Sunday, July 27, and in Bellingham in August (date TBD).
Filmmakers will learn more about the program and get valuable insight about the application process and selection criteria. Exact details for these events are coming soon on the WF Blog. If you are unable to attend one of the meetings, please contact WF to make alternative arrangements.

CATCH INCENTIVE FILMS ON THE BIG SCREEN
Here are several upcoming opportunities to catch Washington incentive films in a theater near you.
4 Minute Mile - After a sold out World Premiere at the Seattle International Film Festival, Washington incentive film 4 Minute Mile will be available on cable and Internet VOD on July 1 and will hit theaters August 1. The feature film stars a talented cast, including Kelly Blatz, Richard Jenkins, Cam Gigandet, Analeigh Tipton, Rhys Coiro, and Academy Award Winner Kim Basinger. Keep your eyes peeled for the trailer, which premieres tomorrow on iTunes. You can stay updated on all announcements by liking the film's Facebook page.
Lucky Them -The indie gem Lucky Them filmed in Seattle and has been getting a lot of attention this month. This Washington incentive feature, directed by Megan Griffiths and starring Toni Collette and Thomas Haden Church, has been held over for a few more days at the Northwest Film Forum in Seattle. You can also catch it at the Magic Lantern Theatre in Spokane.
Different Drummers - Learn more about the Tugg Event to screen Washington incentive film Different Drummers in Seattle on July 10. The feature is based on a true story and was shot in Spokane. If you're interested in attending, help to guarantee this screening. Reserve your tickets online.
World's Greatest Dad - The feature returns to the big screen in Seattle on June 26 at the SIFF Uptown Cinema. Helmed by comedian turned director Bobcat Goldthwait, World's Greatest Dad was filmed in Seattle and stars Robin Williams. Don't miss this chance to see the Washington incentive film and meet Goldthwait in person.

 Seattle Film Community Discusses Future of Film with Mayor Murray - Film industry professionals representing the Seattle film community met with Mayor Murray to discuss the future of film in the city. The meeting was an important step in setting a prioritized agenda for film.

 Making the Most of the Filmmaking Lottery - Bellingham filmmaker Jessica Valentine is one of three winning writer/directors in the 2014 Jameson First Shot Short Film Competition. Her lead actor is Uma Thurman. Valentine's film JUMP! premieres July 26 in Los Angeles.
 WF Visits Winthrop & Senic Methow Valley - Summer is here, bringing sunshine and perfect weather for WF to visit the Methow Valley. The three-day trip included stops in Mazama, Winthrop, Twisp, Concrete and Sedro Woolley. Learn more about our most recent regional visit.

YOU DON'T ALWAYS HAVE TO FOLLOW THE FORMULA
NEXT FMI HAPPY HOUR 06/25
June's FMI Happy Hour presenter will be Rebecca Gates, an Oregon-based musician, artist, curator, and activist. She tours and releases albums internationally, and has appeared on recordings by a range of artists including Willie Nelson, Akito Katayose and The Decemberists. Rebecca will discuss the working world of operating independently and highlighting tools that artists can utilize, past approaches that are still relevant, and lessons to be learned from alternative cultures. Rebecca will speak to breaking out of our silos, looking at other forms of art work, what we can learn from each other, and drawing ties between working independently and the current state of the tech and start-up industries.
 Mark your calendars for June 25 and join others at this monthly networking event at Spitfire in Belltown at 2219 4th Ave. Seattle, WA 98121. FMI Happy Hours are from 5:00 to 7:00 pm and the presentation begins at 6:30.
