This spring, visual and performance artist William Pope.L opened the largest museum show of his work to date at the Geffen Contemporary at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. Lighting designer Kathy Pryzgoda's charged experience lighting the exhibition's foundational piece, Trinket, has inspired her to push for greater creative expression among the competing interests of architectural lighting design.

Dawn Hollingsworth Leads BOLD Expansion In Their New West Coast Studio

BOLD, Brian Orter Lighting Design LLC announces the opening of a new studio in Los Angeles, and welcomes veteran lighting designer, Dawn Hollingsworth to the practice. Principal, Brian Orter adds, "I've been traveling back and forth for decades meeting with colleagues and clients, using the unique local resources and experiencing the phenomenal architectural developments. It was about time we put down roots."

In the last 15 years we've seen an emphasis on new measures of quality in the built environment, largely centered on energy efficiency or "green" building, but these have been largely indoor measures and they're mostly concerned with indoor air quality and thermal comfort. Visual comfort has been ignored for the most part, for many reasons, not the least of which is that we're not sure exactly what it is or how to measure it.
