TOGETHER. We Can....

Dear PL player/parent,

Please take note of two important items regarding our August Play Days:

August 5th - this will become a make-up session for the SoX date that was canceled because of the thunderstorms last Thursday.

August 6th - this is now our official "Make-a-Ball" Night.  (please see below).

The location will be at Junction fields and the schedule for BOTH days will be U12 and under kids should attend from 6 to 7.15, U13 and older from 7.15 to 8.30pm.

August 6th "Make-a-Ball Night"

We will use only soccer balls that our players have made themselves.  The only real soccer balls that our players should bring would those that they are donating.

We will also use that night to collect any used soccer equipment that our players might have, especially soccer balls. This equipment will then be donated to kids less fortunate than ours through the US Soccer Passback Program*.

Why is Penn Legacy joining this effort?  Two reasons, the first being it is a way to give back to players in need, and with the Make a Ball Night this would be the ideal night to collect used soccer stuff.  Secondly, we simply want to raise awareness of the plight of millions of kids throughout the world who live and work on the streets, who have no school, no toys, no hope of a bright future.  For many, all they have to look forward to is the sport of soccer.  In order to play they must make their own ball.

Please take a few minutes to watch the videos below, they say more than my words ever could:

Next you can watch an instructional video that I made with Lata Petros, who plays on our rising u17 boys team.  Lata grew up in Ethiopia and he made his own footballs as a child and in this video he gives some great pointers on how to do it.

Remember this is not the only one way to do it, there are literally hundreds of ways to make a ball.  The ball can be as small or as big as you want.

The only rule will be that it will have to be deemed to be safe!

Some will fail miserably, some will last the whole night, but that is not the point.  The point is that we have fun, think of this sport from a slightly different perspective, realize how lucky we are, and hopefully collect lots of real balls and shoes and gear that can find its way to some less fortunate kids around the world.

What a great night this could be!! So please join us for a night of fun for a great cause.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Seamus.

*Since 2002, the U.S. Soccer Foundation's Passback Program has collected and redistributed over 900,000 pieces of soccer equipment to children in underserved communities. Thanks to dedicated individuals, soccer clubs, and organizations that collect and donate soccer equipment, the Passback program is able to bring the game of soccer to children who love the sport, but don't have the resources to play.

  • It takes one soccer ball to change the life of a child
  • It takes one jersey to make a child feel a sense of belonging.
