Fields Update
Dear Penn Legacy and Hempfield Soccer Club Families,

With the Spring soccer season and tryouts for the 2013/2014 Club season right around the corner, the Club's Board has been working diligently to plan for the entire Club's field needs for the upcoming season and plans for the future.  We are pleased to announce a rental partnership with Manhiem Township to utilize their Turf Fields with lights at Weaver Road Park for the spring season. The ability to use these fields will double the Turf training capabilities for the club this Spring Season. The Board has additionally identified other field options that are currently being discussed and we hope to be close to finalizing an agreement on another site that will offer much needed field space in the short term and will offer some of the nicest playing grass surface around.  If all goes as planned we hope to be able to announce this new project in late March.  With the fields we utilize at existing facilities at the Hempfield School Complex, Fulton Bank fields, Silver Spring Park, Rohrerstown Elementary and East Petersburg Elementary School, the addition of this new project will provide us with the additional field space needed to alleviate the overcrowding we are faced with especially during the fall playing seasons.

To keep you updated on the farm along Graystone Road, that we had placed under agreement last summer.  Over the last 8 months, the Club worked closely with professional consultants from ELA Group during a due diligence and planning period for the site as we needed to ensure approvals could be obtained and that the site could be developed to fit our needs.  As site design progressed and geo-tech studies we're done, it became clear this site was going to offer more challenges then initially expected.  Within the last few weeks it was determined the storm water management plan for this site, which is a required piece of the land development process, was going to impact the number of fields we could ultimately place on the site and would also shrink the size of some of the fields.  With this arising along with changes in the parking design among other factors it was determined this parcel was not going to offer us the level of playing fields we originally expected once all the site improvements were complete.  In addition, as planning progressed it became clear the timetable for use of the site would be extended and it would be quite some time until we would have the ability to have our kids playing on the fields.

With the issues that have arisen over the last few months this site has become less attractive and ultimately within the last few weeks, the Club's Board has decided to cease this particular acquisition and focus on other options that can provide us with much needed field space now rather then later.  This was an unanimous decision by the Board to stop moving forward with the Graystone project, and while it wasn't an easy decision and much discussion was held, the Board felt this parcel wasn't the best direction for the Club nor the best use of financial resources.

In closing, the Board would like to express their thanks for your patience and understanding over the last year as much hard work and focus has been placed in planning for our field needs as this has been a priority of the Board since finding out about the loss of the East Petersburg School site.  We understand it has been a concern for many, but with the existing sites and the new site being finalized, the Board is confident we'll have the field space needed to be able to continue offering a quality soccer experience for our families for years to come.

We will base our successes on how well our players develop, not just on the soccer pitch, but as young people, all the while remembering that this is a competitive sport. If our players are enjoying their soccer, and being taught the game the right way by the best coaches, then we can achieve great things. That is the Penn Legacy Way.
