Family or Team? Part Two
By Al Ells, M.C., intro by Dr. Doug Talley Al Ells is a friend of Indiana Ministries who has provided valuable training for us over the last few years. He recently ran a two part series in his e-newsletter on "Family or Team?" that is profound, extremely insightful, and very relevant to us in the Church of God. We are re-posting these articles, and I want to encourage you to read them and let God speak to you through them. I believe that in the Church of God we have over-extended the metaphor of family to an unhealthy and missionally distracting extent. A special thanks to Al for helping us rethink and re-calibrate for the sake of the Gospel. Last month's article, "Family or Team?", contrasted characteristics of Team and Family style leadership cultures. Contrasting the two helps us better understand church culture and why some churches are plateaued and declining while others appear to be thriving and growing. For example, many churches today have staff, volunteers and leadership that interact more like families than teams. The individuals love and care for each other even to the extent that loyalty trumps performance. Poor-performing or relationally difficult staff and volunteers are tolerated and never called to accountability. This ultimately costs the ministry and diminishes God's purposes.

Multi-Site Workshop
Tues. Sept 17
South Memorial Drive Church of God
New Castle, IN
Starting a second worship service at another location is one of the most effective ways of reaching people for Christ. Churches are finding that it is a fantastic and affordable way to expand their ministry and the Kingdom. Jim Griffith is experienced in coaching pastors and churches in going multi-site.
Jim will provide orientation to launching a second campus, help you understand some of the aspects involved in multi-site ministry, and you will receive valuable take aways whether your church goes multi-site or not. Even if multi-site ministry is something you are considering several years in the future, now is a good time to receive basic training. You can even attend just because you are curious about the idea.
Registration available on Indiana Ministries Events webpage beginning Friday!

Australia and Indiana Ministries
It was awesome having David Ravell speak at the recent Global Gathering. He did an excellent job! He talked about Journey Church's relationship with Indiana Ministries and how this relationship is helping the Church of God re-emerge in Australia. To hear his message, click here. (fast forward to 57:10)
David also had a chance to speak at several Indiana churches, as well as meet with Indiana pastors. As many of you know, Cindy and I recently returned from visiting Journey Church for two Sundays, so we've had a chance to see first hand the life changing work that David is doing.
Let me encourage you to pray for David and Journey Church. There are a lot of people in the Gold Coast of Australia who need Jesus and a vibrant church home! If you or your church would like to financially support David and Journey Church, then contact the Indiana Ministries office and we'll tell you how to make that possible. It is amazing what partnership can accomplish!
